Abstract

Abstract

This research is motivated by problems found in students with mild autism spectrum disorder in class II at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi who do not have the ability to understand the concepts of right and left directions. This study aims to improve the ability to understand spatial concepts using Sensory Path Space media. The research method used is a quantitative experimental method, specifically a Single Subject Research (SSR) design A-B. The subject of this study is a child with mild autism spectrum disorder at SLB Al-Ikhlas Bukittinggi. Data were collected through action tests with visual graph data analysis, which served as the analysis within and between conditions. The research results indicate that the use of Sensory Path Space media can improve the ability to understand spatial concepts in children with autism spectrum disorder, as evidenced by an increase in scores from a stable baseline phase of 33.33% to 83.33% during the intervention phase. Nevertheless, this study has limitations because it involved only one subject, focusing on the concepts of right and left space, and the child's responses were not always consistent throughout the intervention process. Therefore, it is recommended that future research involves more subjects, expands the coverage of spatial concept material, and develops more innovative and adaptive learning media so that the research results can be more optimal and have broader generalizability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the validity and practicality test results that have been conducted regarding the EduAutism website. The method used in this study is the Research and Development method, guided by the Borg & Gall development model, which has been modified into 6 steps. The data collection technique uses a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis uses a quantitative approach. The data analysis technique is carried out quantitatively using the Likert scale, where the scores obtained are calculated and converted into percentages to determine the feasibility category. The results of this study include the website validity assessed by experts, with a final score averaging 81.3% in the very feasible category. Meanwhile, the practicality test conducted with parents of children with autism residing in Padang City obtained an average final result of 88.3% in the very feasible category. The implication of this research for the public is the availability of a validated one-stop digital information access to empower parents in performing appropriate early interventions and facilitate the community in accessing autism directory services in Padang City. Further research is recommended to test the effectiveness of the EduAutism website on a larger sample and to develop more comprehensive features, such as education, health services, and interactive forums, in order to enhance its usefulness for parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Abstract

Sexual development is a natural aspect of human growth experienced by all students, including Deaf and Hard-of Hearing (DHH) students. However, communication barriers among DHH students may limit their understanding of privacy boundaries and social norms, thereby increasing the risk of inappropriate sexual behaviors. This study aimed to identify the types of observable sexual behaviors among DHH students enrolled in special schools in West Sumatra, Indonesia. A descriptive–exploratory design was employed. The participants consisted of seven teachers from special schools who taught DHH students. Data were collected using an online questionnaire distributed via Google Forms. Quantitative and qualitative analytical techniques were applied to examine the data. The findings indicate that students exhibited various forms of sexual behavior, including non-verbal sexual behaviors, verbal sexual behaviors, self or other endangering sexual behaviors, and extreme behaviors. All participating teachers reported instances of students touching others’ bodies without permission (100%) and pressing or leaning their body against others (75%). These results underscore the importance of targeted sexuality education and communication support for students with DHH within special school settings
