Abstract

Language plays a crucial role not only in conveying information but also in influencing others through speech, which makes the study of speech acts essential in understanding communication both in real life and in fictional contexts. While previous studies have widely examined locutionary and illocutionary acts, research focusing on perlocutionary acts, particularly in film dialogue, remains limited, leaving a gap in understanding how language in media elicits emotional or behavioral responses from audiences and characters. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the types of perlocutionary acts used in the movie The Thursday Murder Club based on Austin’s Speech Act Theory and Leech’s classification of perlocutionary effects. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the researchers identified and categorized selected utterances from the film’s dialogues into six perlocutionary types: persuade, encourage, irritate, deceive, attract action, and embarrass. The results show that persuasive acts are the most dominant, followed by irritation and encouragement, indicating that most dialogues are designed to influence and evoke emotional reactions among characters while maintaining the movie’s crime-comedy tone. These findings reveal that perlocutionary acts serve not only as linguistic expressions but also as narrative devices that enhance characterization, tension, and humor. In conclusion, this study underscores that language in film functions as a powerful medium for persuasion, emotion, and engagement, bridging the gap between linguistic theory and cinematic storytelling

Abstract

Forests contribute as important capital in national development with various strategic functions in the ecological, economic, and socio-cultural fields. In East Java Province, forest area management not only aims to preserve the environment, but also to improve the welfare of the community around the forest through the sustainable use of forest products. This management involves various stakeholders, including the Forestry Service (DISHUT), Perum Perhutani, and other related agencies. Synergy between stakeholders is needed to optimize the contribution of the forestry sub-sector to regional development, especially in supporting the preparation of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GDP) which reflects the real economic value of forest products. Therefore, mapping the roles between stakeholders is important in creating effective and sustainable forestry governance in East Java. This study aims to analyze the role of stakeholders in the calculation of the GDP of the forestry sub-sector in East Java Province. This research uses a mixed method. The data sources for this study came from 4 informants and 61 respondents. The analysis was carried out quantitatively-descriptively and qualitatively through interactive models and role analysis. The results show that each stakeholder has a diverse role in the calculation of the GDP of the forestry sub-sector. The Forestry Service and BAPPEDA are the main actors (Key Players), while Perum Perhutani and BPS play the role of strategic supporters (Subjects). Inter-stakeholder collaboration is key to strengthening the real contribution of the forestry sector to regional economic development and sustainable forest management.

Abstract

Interrelated structural, social, and administrative factors still influence rural poverty in East Java. This activity aims to analyze the effectiveness of various approaches to poverty alleviation, develop an integrative model appropriate to the region's characteristics, and formulate recommendations for sustainable multi-strategy policies. Data collection was conducted through document studies, observations, and indept interview in three regency, Probolinggo, Blitar, and Nganjuk. The research results show that low agricultural productivity, limited market access, weak local economic institutions, dependence on social assistance, and inaccurate beneficiary data are the leading causes of rural poverty. Each region has a different context, ranging from mentalities and economic capacity barriers to infrastructure inequalities and data accuracy issues that trigger social conflicts. Based on these findings, a multi-strategy model was developed around three main pillars: sharpening fiscal and non-fiscal resources, integrating cross-sectoral programs with the same objectives, and filling program gaps through data strengthening and profession-based empowerment. The multi-strategy approach framework serves as a foundation to ensure that interventions are targeted and aligned with the real needs of the community. This recommendation model is expected to strengthen improve program effectiveness, and accelerate rural poverty reduction by increasing economic capacity and fostering more targeted policy synergies.

Abstract

Cooking oil is a human need that is increasing over time resulting in wasted cooking oil. One of the efforts to reduce negative effect of used cooking oil is the use of activated carbon in the refinery process. The aim of this study was to determine the hepatotoxicity of used cooking oil treated with activated carbon of bagasse on rat livers. The method used true experimental laboratory with Post Test Only with Control Group Design. White rats were divided into 4 treatment groups. Positive control, given 0.2 ml of used cooking oil. Negative control, given 0.2 ml of packaged cooking oil. Group 3 was given 0.2 ml of used cooking oil mixed with 5% activated carbon. Group 4 was given 0.2 ml of used cooking oil mixed with 15% activated carbon of bagasse. The liver enzyme of SGPT-SGOT was measured by spectrophotometry and analysed by ANOVA. The concentration of bagasse-activated carbon in used cooking oil affected the levels of SGOT-SGPT and rats weight. The lowest levels of SGOT were obtained in used cooking oil treated with 5% activated carbon bagasse (18.85 ± 0.544 U/L). Application of bagasse-activated carbon in used cooking oil can reduce the risk of hepatotoxicity in mice.

Abstract

This study investigates the root causes of PT SLI’s slow customer acquisition and formulates a practical marketing strategy aligned with the firm’s operational capacity and the evolving external environment. The research rests on three key assumptions: market shifts and customer expectations shape acquisition challenges, the company possesses internal capabilities suitable for a differentiation strategy, and structured marketing combined with digital enhancements can strengthen competitiveness. Based on these premises, the study aims to analyze the dynamics of the B2B freight forwarding market, evaluate internal and external factors affecting PT SLI’s marketing performance, and propose an applicable plan to expand its customer base. A qualitative case study method was applied, using open-ended questionnaires distributed to representatives of three manufacturing firms to obtain insights into customer expectations, forwarder selection considerations, and common service issues. Additional information was collected through informal interviews with PT SLI’s Director, supplemented by secondary data from academic literature, industry reports, logistics indices, and company documents to support triangulation. The analysis employed multiple frameworks, including STP, PESTEL, Porter’s Five Forces, competitor analysis, RBV, Value Chain, SWOT, and TOWS. Findings indicate several opportunities in Indonesia’s growing manufacturing sector, government efforts to streamline trade processes, and rising logistics demand. However, PT SLI faces strong competitive pressure, high supplier bargaining power in global shipping lines, and increasing digital demands. Internally, the company benefits from strong relationships with shipping lines, reliable documentation abilities, consistent operations, and customer loyalty. Its main weaknesses lie in the absence of formal marketing, limited digital presence, fragmented workflows, and reliance on senior employees’ tacit knowledge. TOWS analysis suggests differentiation as the most suitable strategy, supported by operational standardization, digital upgrades, marketing renewal, and improved knowledge management. The study contributes to understanding strategic development in traditional logistics firms and offers PT SLI a feasible roadmap for sustainable growth.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of traditional Nusantara cuisine in the novel Nonik Jamu (2024) by Rina Suryakusuma using a gastro-critical approach enriched with semiotic analysis. The analysis focuses on three main aspects: (1) how traditional Nusantara cuisine is represented in the novel; (2) how traditional Nusantara cuisine reflects social and cultural values; and (3) how traditional Nusantara cuisine contributes to the formation of character identity. The findings show that traditional Nusantara cuisine functions not only as a narrative element but also as a medium of complex cultural representation. The results include: (1) the representation of traditional Nusantara cuisine through processes of preparation, presentation, and consumption; (2) the presence of social and cultural values; and (3) traditional Nusantara cuisine as a means of shaping character identity. This study contributes to the development of literary gastronomy in Indonesia, particularly in understanding the relationship between traditional Nusantara cuisine, culture, and identity within literary texts.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) programme aims to improve the competence of senior high school Indonesian language teachers in implementing differentiated learning in response to student diversity and the demands of the Merdeka Curriculum. The activity took the form of a one-day intensive workshop for 26 members of the Indonesian Language MGMP in Rokan Hilir Regency on 25 October 2025. The implementation method included five integrated stages: concept socialisation, training on the principles of differentiation and diagnostic assessment, integration of technology for learning resource curation, practical guidance through simulation, and the formation of a digital learning community. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in the participants' practical skills, as evidenced by their ability to develop lesson plans (RPP) that integrate variations in content, process, and product, as well as their success in curating digital learning resources relevant to student learning profiles. In addition, a partner satisfaction questionnaire revealed a very high level of success, with 95% of respondents expressing satisfaction with the implementation of the programme. The conclusion from this activity is that practice-oriented workshops supported by sustainable communities are effective in building teachers' capacity to create inclusive learning.
