Abstract

The aim of this research was to analyze the effectiveness of implementation of guided inquiry learning aided teaching materials based on the concept of vertebrate material to the learning outcome at SMA Kesatrian 1 Semarang. The research was done by quasi experimental design. The samples was X MIA 6 class as the control group and X MIA 3 class as the experimental group which taken by purposive sampling technique. The result showed that the classical completeness average of the experimental group was 83,3%, while the control group was 55,5%. Data analysis on affective aspects in the experimental group was better than the control group. The analysis of the psychomotor aspects of the experimental group was better than the control group. T-test showed that both classes were significantly different. The average of the students questionnaire responses after joining the learning was in good criteria. Generally the teacher and the students also gave good responses in the implementation of the learning. It can be concluded that implementation of guided inquiry learning aided teaching materials based on the concept was effective to be implemented in the vertebrate material for tenth graders of X MIA in SMA Kesatrian 1 Semarang.

Abstract

Termites cause a lot of damage and big losses for building components, especially those made of wood. High population growth and rapid infrastructure development in Semarang city affect the natural habitats of termites. This phenomenon changes the termites behavior of foraging in buildings. Semarang city has humidity, temperature, and altitude that allows termites to live and breed well. The purpose of this study was to determine the types of termites living in housing in Semarang city as well as the level of attacks on housing. This research was conducted in nine housing in Semarang City. The research was carried out with two methods: building inspection and wood-feeding method by using Pinus mercusii wood measures 2 cm x 2 cm x 46 cm. The results found four types of termites that attack wood feeds namely Macrotermes gilvus, Microtermes inspiratus, Odontotermes javanicus, Coptotermes curvignathus and Cryptotermes sp.. Based on interviews and building inspection, it was known that the condition of the building in the category of "moderate" was occupying the most position (74.44%), good (17.78%) and lightly damaged (7.78%). From the causes of damage to building components, it can be concluded that the level of termite attack against damage to recidential buildings in Semarang city 44.58%. Cross-tabulation analysis of Chi-Square shows that there is a correlation between age and treatment with damage to the building. Futher, the finding can be used as baseline information for further scientific investigation for effective termites control on residential building components.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to measure the bird’s diversity at Karangasem Village, Wirosari District, Grobogan Regency mainly at the forest habitat, farm land and it settlements. The study was conducted on September until November 2008 used point count method. The data of birds species and its number analyzed by Shanon-Wiener species diversity index (H’), evenness index (E), dominance index (Di) and similarity index of Jaccardto describe the similar species of birds inter-habitat at Karangasem. The result indicated that there are 43 birds species of 22 families recorded at the location. About eight species among them are protected by the government, two among them included into CITES appendix II and one of them included into Vulnerable category of IUCN Red List. The birds diversity index and evenness index in the village of Karangasem ranges from 1.9 to 2.7 and 0.68 to 0.8. The highest and most dominant species are Collocalia linchi, Pycnonotus aurigaster, Lonchura leucogastroides and Lonchura punctulata. The analysis of Jaccard’s similarity index showed that the forests had more similarity to settlements than rice farming, which means there are high differences between habitats. There are differences in composition, structure, and featured bird species of the habitat, whichcaused low similarity index between the habitat ranges from 19.23% to 25.71%. Abstract

Teachers and students have difficulty in observing protist spesies. The basic competence 3.5 oblige thestudents to apply the principle of protist grouping classification carefully and systematically. Therefore, thereshould be a media of culture protist along with its way and the students’ observation worksheet for protists. This research is aimed to develop the valid and effective culture media of protist for class practice activities inProtist Material. This research used Research and Development (R&D) method. Small scale trials weredone to 10 students using purposive random sampling. Big scale trials were done to 64 students. The validityof protist culture was scored using validity sheets by validator, then was analyzed in percentage description. The effectivity score of protist culture media was obtained based students’ processing skills score. The result ofthe research showed that protist culture media was considered valid by experts with the average score of90,1%. The observation of students’ skills showed that both classes of the research has classical grade of85,3% and 87,1%. Based on the results, it can be concluded that protist culture media with its guidance andstudents’ observation worksheet was valid and effective to be used by Senior High School students.
