Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is an important crop for food diversification, yet the productivity of the local Cingkariang variety from West Sumatra remains limited due to poor seed quality and viral infection. Tissue culture provides a reliable approach to produce pathogen-free planting material. This study evaluated the interaction of NAA and BAP concentrations on the in vitro growth of Cingkariang potato plantlets. Results revealed significant interactions between the two growth regulators on most growth parameters. The application of 0.3 ppm NAA enhanced node number, shoot formation, and plantlet height without suppressing root growth, while 2 ppm BAP was most effective for stimulating shoot development. These findings highlight the importance of optimizing plant growth regulator combinations to improve micropropagation efficiency of Cingkariang potato.

Abstract

Color is the main attraction in choosing food; therefore, manufacturers do various ways to produce good colors without considering the consumer's health. Natural colors are a safe choice for health; besides being safe, natural dyes can also provide functional properties to those who consume them. The study aimed to determine the activity of natural dyes and their functional properties when mixed with chemically modified arrowroot starch. This study used a factorial design with chemical modification factor A and factor B, a ratio of dragon fruit extract to the amount of starch, with three repetitions. The best treatment was A2B3 (cross-link, starch with dragon fruit 1:2) because it had the treatment with the most visible color. This treatment has an antioxidant content of 38.95%, a polyphenol content of 106.19 mg GAE/g, a color of 76.88, and an anthocyanin content of 0.71 mg/100g.

Abstract

Sago is a native Indonesian plant that has the potential to be developed as a food and non-food source because it has several advantages, namely high starch content, resistance to climate change, being able to grow and adapt to marginal environments. Sustainability of sago plantation management must meet environmental, economic, social and institutional aspects. The purpose of this study is to identify the dynamics in the development of sago plantations and forms of local wisdom that can support the development of sustainable sago plantations. The research method used is a qualitative approach with Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The results of article review show that the development of sago plantations faces constraints of low productivity and unsustainability from social, economic, environmental culture and institutional aspects. Meanwhile in the community there are local wisdom sago management practices that have a positive effect on the five aspects of sustainability. However, previous study is still partial and does not focus on the sago plantation sector. Research questions about how to develop sustainable sago plantations based on comprehensive local wisdom is the novelty that are offered to be answered in future research.

Abstract

Salibu is a rice plant that grows after the stems left over from the harvest have been pruned. Salibu cultivation has many advantages, including being able to increase land productivity through increasing the harvest index, and reducing production costs. There are many factors that effect growth in rice cultivation, including the height of cutting stems from harvest residues and weeds. Research was conducted from July to December 2020 at Pasar Ambacang, Kuranji District, Padang City with an altitude of 250 m above sea level. The experimental  units were laid out according to a Randomized Block Design (RCBD) with two factors and four replications. The first factor is the frequency of weeding which consists of 3 levels (weeding 1, 2 and 3 times) and the second factor is the cutting height which consists of 3 levels (3-7 cm, 12-16 cm and 21-25 cm). The results showed that there is no interaction between weeding frequency and stubble length on the growth of salibu rice plants. The stump length affects the height of the plant where the stump length of the 21-25 cm has higher plants than the others. Keywords : Weed, rice, growth  INTISARIPadi salibu merupakan tanaman padi yang tumbuh setelah batang sisa panen dipangkas. Budidaya padi salibu memiliki beberapa keuntungan diantaranya dapat meningkatkan produktivitas lahan melalui peningkatan indeks panen dan dapat menekan biaya produksi. Abstract

Palm oil production in Indonesia must be optimized to meet world market demands. The steeper the slope of the land, the more erosion and weed growth will occur. This can result in disrupted oil palm growth due to erratic competition, air, and light between oil palm and weeds around the plant. This study aims to determine the relationship between the slope of the land with the production level of Fresh Fruit Bunches of oil palm in the PT. Bina Pratama Sakato Jaya Unit Kiliran Jao Sijunjung Regency. The research is in the form of a survey with a purposive random sampling method. Observation parameters consisted of the weight of fresh fruit bunches, the diameter of stem circumference, and plant height. Data processing using a simple linear regression method. The plantation area of PT. Bina Pratama Sakato Jaya is currently 4,678.79 Ha. Slope significantly affects the production of oil palm Fresh Fruit Bunches (FFB). The highest average production was obtained on flat (0-3%) and gentle slopes (3-8%), and the lowest average production on slopes (15-30%) and very steep (30-45%)

Abstract

Cingkariang potato is a superior local variety from West Sumatra, yet its productivity is often hindered by poor seed quality due to viral infections. This study evaluated the effectiveness of thermotherapy in eliminating viruses from Cingkariang potato shoots. The research design used factorial RAL with two factors, namely thermotherapy temperature (30°C and 35°C) and duration (5, 10, 15, and 20 days). Results showed that temperature significantly affected the number and height of shoots, while duration influenced shoot emergence. In virus infection tests, 30°C successfully eliminated PVX but not PVY, whereas 35°C eliminated both viruses, as indicated by the absence of morphological symptoms in indicator plants. Duration had no significant effect on virus elimination efficacy. This study recommends 35°C as the optimal thermotherapy protocol to improve Cingkariang potato seed quality.

Abstract

Maize is a light-dependent crop, but new varieties have been developed that can tolerate shade. This allows farmers to grow maize as an intercrop between coconut trees, making more efficient use of their land. Farmers can also intercrop with legume plants, which provide additional nitrogen through Rhizobium bacteria, leading to increased maize productivity. The aim of this study was to obtain the best intercropping pattern for maize and soybeans under coconut trees that results high yields in maize. The study was conducted in Padang Pariaman Regency of West Sumatra, at an altitude of approximately 150 meters, from February to July 2022. The experimental design was a Split Plot Design with Randomized Block Design, consisting of three main plot levels (planting time) and four subplot levels (planting model). The results of the study indicate that intercropping maize and soybeans under coconut trees has no effect on the weight of maize cobs, but there is a positive correlation between ear weight, cob length, cob diameter, number of rows per cob, and the weight of 1000 maize seeds.
