Abstract

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities that become alternative foods as a source of carbohydrates other than wheat, rice, and corn. One of the efforts to increase potato production can be done through the selection of quality seeds. The selection of G1 generation potato seeds is used because it has not undergone deteoration so that the quality of the seeds is still maintained. This study aims to determine the effect of G1 tuber weight on the growth and yield of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) G2 Granola varieties. This research was conducted at the Green House of the Pusat Alih Teknologi dan Pengembangan Kawasan Pertanian (PATPKP) of Andalas University located in Jorong Galagah, Nagari Alahan Panjang, Lembah Gumanti District, Solok Regency from August to November 2023. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 levels of treatment, namely the weight of G1 tubers (5-15, 16-30, 31-45, and 46-60) with 3 replications, where there were 12 experimental units. The data obtained were statistically analyzed with the F test at a real level of 5% and if the effect was real, it was continued with Duncan's New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) with a level of 5%. The results showed that there was an influence of the weight of G1 tubers on the growth and yield of potato plants of the G2 Granola variety. G1 tuber weights of 46-60 g give the best results in increasing plant height growth, number of shoots, stem diameter, and fresh weight of tubers per plant.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of various doses of coal fly ash ameliorant on the growth and yield of several local rice varieties of West Sumatra on peatlands. Peatlands that have low fertility, high acidity, and limited nutrient content are the main challenges in rice cultivation. Fly ash, which is waste from coal combustion, is used as an ameliorant because it contains silica and other minerals that can improve soil structure, increase pH, and provide nutrients. The four rice genotypes used were Bujang Merantau, Kuriak Supayang, Redek, and PB 42, with four doses of fly ash (0, 5, 10, and 15 tons/ha). The study was conducted using a split-plot design, with the results showing that fly ash increased soil pH from 3.83 to 6.65, improved water content, and increased C-organic content. The optimal dose of fly ash was 10 tons/ha, which supported plant height. 2. Genotypes Redek and Bujang Merantau showed the best results in the number of filled grains per panicle and yield weight per hectare at this dose. The provision of higher doses still needs to be evaluated further. This study concluded that the combination of varieties and the right dose of ameliorant has the potential to increase local rice productivity on peatlands sustainably.

Abstract

Pruning, combined with fertilization, is a feasible agricultural technique to extend the harvest period of bird's eye chilli plants, thereby enhancing farmers' income. This study aimed to examine the interaction between controlled-release fertilizer (CRF) and NPK doses and to determine the optimal dosage of both fertilizers, considering the residual effects of CRF on the growth and yield of bird's eye chilli plants following pruning on Ultisol soil. The experiment was conducted from September 2024 to January 2025 at the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Andalas. A Split-Plot Randomized Complete Block Design was employed, with the main plot representing the residual effects of CRF, while the subplots corresponded to different CRF and NPK dosages. The main plot treatments included CRF residual effects at 750 kg/ha, 1000 kg/ha, and 1500 kg/ha, whereas the subplots consisted of CRF application at 750 kg/ha, 1500 kg/ha, and NPK at 1200 kg/ha. Data were subjected to variance analysis (ANOVA) and further assessed using Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results indicated no statistically significant interaction between CRF and NPK dosages and the residual effects of CRF. Applying CRF at 750 kg/ha was the most effective across all residual CRF levels among all tested treatments. The residual CRF dose of 1500 kg/ha positively impacted plant development and fruit production. The findings also revealed that the residual CRF effect contributed to an increased nitrogen supply in the soil, reducing the necessity for additional nitrogen fertilization for bird's eye chilli after pruning cultivation.

Abstract

Utilization of marginal land, such as peatlands, to increase national rice production needs to be done. This is because the need for rice consumption increases yearly, while many productive lands have been converted for settlements. The provision of amelioran dolomite lime on peatlands before cultivating rice plants can be done to overcome problems on peatlands. This study aims to see how the growth and yield responses of the Caredek variety of rice on peatlands are due to the administration of several doses of dolomite lime. The study used a Randomized Block Design consisting of 4 dolomite lime dose treatments, including 0 tons/ha, 5 tons/ha, 10 tons/ha, and 15 tons/ha. Each treatment was repeated 3 times. Data were analyzed using the F test at a 5% level, and the DNMRT test was continued at a 5% level if it showed a significantly different effect. The results showed that the administration of dolomite lime affected growth (plant height and leaf area index) but did not affect the yield of the Caredek variety of rice on peatlands. A dose of dolomite lime of 5 – 15 tons/ha is generally effective in increasing the growth and yield of Caredek variety rice plants on peatlands compared to not applying dolomite lime.

Abstract

Local rice seeds are crucial to Indonesia's food security and agricultural sustainability, especially in West Sumatra. Seed management has yet to achieve seed independence, hindering the development of breeders and seed users. Overcoming this requires collaboration between stakeholders because locals can take collective responsibility and build trust in the Government through collaborative seed governance. This study introduces the concept of assessing the level of collaboration between stakeholders to analyze the stages of cooperation currently occurring in the governance of local rice seeds in West Sumatra. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The study involved interviews with experts and a literature review, identifying 14 indicators influencing collaboration in seed governance. After validation by 5 (five) Experts, 13 (thirteen) indicators were obtained for further analysis using the Fuzzy Delphi, which was applied through a questionnaire distributed to 30 (thirty) informants representing stakeholders in five Regencies/Cities selected purposively in West Sumatra Province. The results were analyzed using a Likert scale and converted to fuzzy logic. These indicators are categorized into 5 (five) characteristics of collaboration. This study found that the level of collaboration between stakeholders is at the "cooperation" stage, which shows a significant lack of effectiveness in the interaction between stakeholders. This study offers valuable insights for stakeholders to enhance the collaborative process of local rice seed management, thereby achieving food security and sustainable agriculture.
