Abstract

This research aims to examines the influence of age on masculinization of Clarias gariepinus larvae immersed by methyl testosterone (MT) natural hormone. This research used 270 catfish larvae divided into 3 groups of age those are 5, 10, and 20 days. The research implemented complete random design (CRD). Immersion was performed using methyl testosterone hormone at the dose of 0.25 g/L for 20 hours. Observation of fish was done after 60 day-old fish. Data obtained was analyzed using one-way analysis of variance The average percentages of male-sex catfish after immersing in natural MT on group I, II, and III were 97.67, 91.07, and 86.67%, respectively. The results showed that the age of the larvae did not affect significantly (P0.05) on the percentage of male sex of Clarias gariepinus. The average percentage of male sex in 5 days age group was higher than 10 and 20 days age group. In conclusion, the masculinization of Clarias gariepinus larva immersed by MT natural hormone is not influenced by age of fish before dipping.

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of spermatozoa X and Y separation using swim-up method on the quality of etawah crossbreed goat’s spermatozoa. This research used 6 male etawah crossbreed goats aged between 18-24 months, which were collected the semen once a week using electroejaculator. Immediately after semen collection, the quality of semen was examined, and then grouped into three treatment groups. Group 1 was control group (P0) refers to the semen was not separated by swim-up method. Group 2 (P1) was the semen separated by the swim-up method for 5 minutes. Group 3 (P2) was the semen separated by swim-up method for 10 minutes. Each treatment was repeated six times. Parameters for semen quality examined were the percentage of spermatozoa motility, live spermatozoa, and abnormal spermatozoa. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) one way pattern, followed by Duncan's multiple test. The results showed that the mean ± SD percentage of sperm motility on each treatment groups (P0; P1; P2) was 81.33±3.44, 89.67±3.21, and 90.00±3.10 %, respectively. The percentage of live spermatozoa on each group was 86.50 ± 2.07, 92.33 ± 2.08, and 91.83 ± 1.72%, respectively. The percentage of abnormal spermatozoa on each group was 13.00±2.53, 7.33±2.52, and 7.67±2.16%, respectively. Results of this research showed that the percentages of motility, live spermatozoa, and abnormal spermatozoa after separation by swim-up method were significantly different (P0.05) compared to without separation. It can be concluded that the separation of spermatozoa using swim-up method can improve significantly (P0.05) the percentage of live and motility of spermatozoa and decrease the percentage of abnormal spermatozoa of etawah crossbreed goats.Key words: Etawah crossbreed, spermatozoa quality, swim-up method

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the sperm quality of  diabetic  rat (Rattus norvegicus) after treated with bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) extracts. This study followed direct complete randomized design using 15 male rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar’s strain which divided into 3 groups. group I (K1) as a control, group II (K2) was diabetic rat  which induced 120mg / kg bw alloxan intraperitoneally, and group III (K3) was diabetic rat which treated with 100mg / kg bw extract of bitter melon, Examination of sperm count, motility, and sperm abnormality was checked at day 48. Data sperm count, motility, and sperm abnormalities was analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan multiple test. The results showed that administration of bitter melon extract dose  100 mg / kg bw for 48 days can improve count and motility spermatozoa (P0,05) and decrease abnormalities of spermatozoa (P0,05).   Bitter melon fruit extract dose  100 mg / kg bw can prevent decrease  sperm quality of diabetic rats

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of superovulation induction through Pregnant Mare’s Serum Gonadotropin (PMSG) and Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) injection to increased birth number in Campbell’s hamsters (Phodopus campbelli). This study used 10 unpregnant female Campbell’s hamster, aged 4-6 months, weighing of 25-30 grams. Hamsters were divided into K1 and K2, each consist of five hamsters. K1 injected with 1 ml physiologic NaCl, while K2 intraperitoneally injected with PMSG and hCG in 5 IU. Mating was held after injection. Male and female hamsters were put in one box with ration of 1:1. The observation of vagina plug was done in order to confirm whether the mating successes or not. The average amount of fetus birth through superovulation on K1 and K2 were 3.40±1.3 and 7.80±1.1, respectively. In conclusion, the superovulation induction using the combination of PMSG and hCG increase birth number on Campbell’s hamsters.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between the intensity of estrus and estradiol concentrations during insemination on local cattle. Ten cows were divided into two groups with each group consist of five cows with category: aged 5-8 years, weight 150-250 kg, clinically healthy, and not pregnant. Plasma samples for examination of the hormone estradiol concentrations were collected during insemination time from jugular vein. Prior to the collection of plasma samples, whole cow were estrus synchronized using prostaglandin F2 alpha (PGF2α) and Ovsynch protocol. The PGF2α were injected twice at intervals of 11 days. Examination of estradiol hormone concentration was performed with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) using estradiol commercial kits. The results of this study indicate that statistically there is no relationship between estrous intensity and estradiol concentration.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin C addition in andromed® dilution on procentage of motility and intact plasma membrane post thawing of aceh bull spermatozoa. This research used fresh semen aceh bull were collected using artificial vagina and divided into four treatments.Control treatment (P0) semen without the addition of vitamin C, first treatment (P1) semen plus vitamin C 0.5 g/100 ml of dilution, second treatment (P2) semen plus vitamin C 1.0 g/100 ml of dilution, third treatment (P3) semen plus vitamin C 2.0 g/100 ml of dilution. The experiment design used was completely randomized design (CRD). Data was analyzed using ANOVA (Analysis of Variant) and followed by Duncan’s multiple range (Duncan’s Multiple Range Test) 5% confidence interval. The result showed that the addition of vitamin C influence the motility and intact plasma membrane percentage of aceh bull spermatozoa after thawing. The addition of vitamin C 0.5 g/100 ml and 1.0 g/100 ml increase motility and intact plasma membrane percentage, while vitamin C 2.0 g/100 ml decrease motility and intact membrane plasma percentage after thawing.Key words: intact plasma membrane, motility, aceh bull, spermatozoa, vitamin C

Abstract

The study examines the relationship between scrotal circumference and weight of testis with spermatozoa concentration aceh cattle at different age levels, as many as 20 samples of bull Aceh. The data collected were analyzed using analysis of variance satua direction. When there berbedaan between treatments, the data were further tested by Duncan multiple test, while to determine the relationship between age, scrotal circumference, weighing testis with spermatozoa concentration used simple regression analysis. Results of analysis of variance (ANOVA) scrotal circumference one way to show that there are significant differences (P 0.05) among all three age groups, as well as the concentration of spermatozoa showed significant differences in each age group. Scrotal circumference was positively related to the weight of the testes with regression coefficient (r) = 0, 945), the value (P 0.05), and the concentration of spermatozoa with regression coefficient (r) = 0, 834, the value (P 0, 05), as well as testes weight was positively related to the concentration of spermatozoa with regrsi coefficient (r) = 0, 831,(P 0.05). It can be concluded, the age effect on scrotal circumference, testis weight and the concentration of spermatozoa Aceh cattle.

Abstract

Cats are pets which part or all of their lives depend on humans for certain things. The period of pregnancy and post partus are very crucial periods for cats. It required certain management approach which is different from general maintenance. This study aimed to find out the perception of cat owners about the cat's management during the pregnancy and post partus period. The research data were obtained by filling out the online questionnaires distributed to the member of cat lover’s Banda Aceh. Data were analyzed descriptively. This study found that the perception of cat owners during pregnancy and post partus was positive.

Abstract

Desa Limpok, sebuah desa yang terletak di Kabupaten Aceh Besar, data kemiskinan 20% penduduk, rendahnya tingkat pendidikan (60% melek huruf), dan infrastruktur yang kurang memadai. Di tengah situasi ini, tim dosen lintas disiplin ilmu Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) Banda Aceh hadir untuk membangkitkan harapan melalui program pengabdian masyarakat. Pelatihan/Sosialisasi budidaya jamur merang menjadi fokus utama program ini, dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan pendapatan, pendidikan, infrastruktur, dan kualitas hidup masyarakat. Budidaya jamur merang dipilih sebagai salah satu solusi yang tepat karena memiliki beberapa keunggulan: meningkatkan Penghasilan, meningkatkan Gizi Masyarakat, memanfaatkan Limbah Pertanian, membutuhkan Area Terbatas. Diharapkan program ini dapat membawa perubahan sosial yang positif bagi Desa Limpok, seperti: penurunan Angka Kemiskinan, meningkatnya Tingkat Pendidikan, meningkatnya Kualitas Infrastruktur. Program ini merupakan langkah awal yang penting dalam upaya memajukan Desa Limpok. Dengan tekad dan kerja keras dari masyarakat desa dan dukungan dari berbagai pihak, Desa Limpok diharapkan dapat keluar dari lingkaran kemiskinan dan menuju masa depan yang lebih cerah

Abstract

Hiperkolesterolemia merupakan penyebab penyakit kardovaskular yang ditandai dengan peningkatan kadar kolesterol dalam darah dan radikal bebas yang merusak sel endotel pembuluh darah. Resiko tersebut dapat diturunkan dengan pemberian vitamin, antioksidan, antikolesterol yang terkandung di dalam buah dan sayuran seperti tomat dan wortel. Tujuan dari penelitian adalah menguji pengaruh pemberian ekstrak tomat dan wortel terhadap kadar kolesterol total darah dan enzim glutation peroksidase (GPx) pada hati tikus putih hiperkolesterolemik. Penelitian ini menggunakan 24 ekor tikus putih yang dikelompokkan menjadi empat perlakuan, yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif yang diberikan pakan standar (KN), kelompok kontrol positif yang diberikan pakan tinggi kolesterol (KP), kelompok tikus diberikan pakan tinggi kolesterol dan ekstrak tomat 50 mg/kg bb (K I), dan  kelompok tikus diberikan pakan tinggi kolesterol dan ekstrak wortel 50 mg/kg bb (K II). Sebelum perlakuan tikus diadaptasikan selama 1 minggu, perlakuan diberikan selama 45 hari. Pemicu terjadinya hiperkolesterolemia pada hewan coba  disebabkan oleh pakan tinggi kolesterol yang diberikan sebelum perlakuan dengan ekstrak tomat dan wortel. Pada hari ke 45 dilakukan pengambilan darah melalui ekor untuk pemeriksaan kadar kolesterol total darah, selanjutnya tikus dieuthanasia dan diambil organ hati untuk pemeriksaan enzim GPx. Data yang diperoleh dilakukan uji normalitas Kolmogorov-Smirnov dan homegenitas menggunakan uji Levene. Kemudian dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji BNT. Hasil uji statistik menunjukkan ada perbedaan yang nyata (P kecil dari 0,05) kadar kolesterol total darah dan kadar enzim GPx antara kelompok KP dibandingkan dengan KN, KP dengan KI dan KP dengan KII. Tetapi tidak terdapat perbedaan yang nyata (P besar dari 0,05) antara KN dibandingkan dengan KI dan KII. Berdasarkan hal tersebut disimpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak tomat 50 mg/kg bb dan ekstrak wortel 50 mg/kg bb selama 45 hari dapat menghambat peningkatan kadar kolesterol total darah dan menghambat penurunan kadar enzim GPx pada hati tikus putih hiperkolesterolemik.
