Abstract

The scoring of multiple choice test items with the conventional model causes disparities in the interpretation of the scoring results. This causes unfair scoring, because the scoring does not pay attention to the characteristics of the items attached to the test. To overcome this problem, the purpose of writing this article is to apply the IRT model to make scoring more fair, so that multiple choice tests are able to provide a more precise and objective interpretation of scores. The multiple choice test used in this study is a math test on Algebra content of 15 items. The test was piloted on 65 grade 8 junior high school students. This data was used to calibrate test items using IRT. Model fit is determined by the M2 method. The instrument is compatible with the Rasch, 2PL and 3PL models, but only the Rasch and 2PL models used in this article. The number of items that fit in both models is the same as the number of multiple choice test items. Furthermore, the item parameters are used as the basis for scoring. The comparison results show that the IRT model is able to provide a more objective and precise scoring, based on the characteristics possessed by the test items. Model 2 PL is able to provide the most fair scoring than the Rasch and conventional models. The characteristics of the discriminant parameters in the 2PL model make it possible to distinguish students' abilities. especially for students who have the same number of correct answers, but the pattern of answers is different

Abstract

This research aims to develop an adaptive MOOC ecosystem in universities. This study involved development research using the 4-D model, which consists of defining, designing, developing, and disseminating. The results indicate that in developing a MOOC ecosystem, it is necessary to conduct an in-depth analysis of users to find out what structures are needed. The context of MOOCs by companies is undoubtedly different from that of universities. As an educational institution, its stakeholders involve university leaders and researchers from lecturers. In the initial design, it is necessary to test user characteristics so that the MOOC system can make decisions on learning recommendations. We involved metacognitive testing and categorize so that users can learn to the fullest. In its application, validity tests were performed on experts to assess the product from development and on users. The test results showed excellent results. This ecosystem has also been disseminated to users and received a very good response. Moreover, several universities in Indonesia have the status of PTN-BH, which demands financial independence, so MOOC can be one of the breakthroughs to acquire income generation. Keywords: adaptive MOOC, MOOC ecosystem, higher education

Abstract

This study aims to develop an instrument/scale to measure family resilience. A sample of 265 families in the Special Region of Yogyakarta was established using the random sampling technique, with the criteria of families in the Yogyakarta area served by the Office of Religious Affair (KUA), and those who have the Pusaka Sakinah program (Sakinah Family Service Center). The data analysis used Aiken's V content validity coefficient and construct validity used Rasch model analysis. The results of Aiken's V coefficients by three experts show a value range of 0.802. This means that the items in the instrument have a high coefficient for measuring family resilience. In addition, the results of the Rasch model analysis show that the item person has a reliability of 0.97 and the item separation has a reliability of 6.03, which means that the measuring instrument has a good function because it has a range of varying degrees of difficulty. Meanwhile, the subject has a reliability of 0.91 and a person separation has a reliability of 3.17. This shows that the character of the subject varies according to the profile of the respondents who come from various educational backgrounds. All items are valid and reliable for measuring the right construct.

Abstract

The development of online tutoring services suggests that Indonesian education faces significant challenges. The purpose of this study is to investigate the issue of educational affordability that arises as a result of the creation of numerous tutoring services in Indonesia. This study used a descriptive research model and a qualitative methodology. This research data takes the form of literature from studies on the existence of elementary school tutoring institutions in Indonesia with all its issues, which are examined from a phenomenological point of view. The findings indicated that public mistrust in the caliber of education provided in formal schools contributed to the rise of online tutoring services at the elementary school level. Students are beginning to choose to employ online tutoring services due to tedious coursework and the ineffectiveness of learning implementation in traditional elementary schools. This article suggests that the government cooperate with the private sector and education innovators to create media and learning methods that are efficient, enjoyable, and still affordable for everyone to address the deficiencies in Indonesia's formal education system.

Abstract

Disparities in the academic readiness of first-year university students remain evident, continuing to challenge higher education systems, particularly when entrance assessments fail to reflect foundational competencies accurately. This study investigates whether gender-based differences exist in entrance exam performance and analyzes students' maximum scores to assess peak academic achievement in two core domains: English proficiency and Quantitative Knowledge. The research was conducted at a public university in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, involving 1,186 students admitted through the independent selection pathway. A comparative quantitative approach was applied using descriptive statistics, Welch’s t-test, and boxplot visualizations in JASP 0.18.3 software. The results showed no statistically significant gender differences in either domain (English: p = 0.504, d = 0.040; Quantitative: p = 0.543, d = –0.036), with nearly identical mean scores and score variability. However, the maximum scores of 17/20 in English and 13/20 in Quantitative Knowledge were far below the full mark, indicating systemic gaps in academic preparedness and possible ceiling effects in test design. These findings support the need to redesign entrance assessments using Item Response Theory (IRT) and to implement bridging or matriculation programs. These interventions can help universities and policymakers ensure fairer and inclusive pathways to promote equitable access and success in higher education.

Abstract

Purpose - In an age where technical competence often eclipses moral depth, religious character education in higher education emerges as a vital response to the erosion of empathy, integrity, and social responsibility.  This research aimed to assess the level and dimensions of religious character among moslem students at a state university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Design/methods/approach - The ex-post facto study involved 468 Muslim students, sampled from a population of 16,802 at a Yogyakarta state university using faculty based cluster sampling. Data were gathered via Likert-scale based questionnaires specifically developed to asses six core dimensions of religious character. Its validity and reliability were rigorously tested using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) yielding a high reliability coefficient (α = 0.95). Finding - This research emphasizes that the religious character of students cannot be reduced to a single aspect, but consists of six interrelated dimensions: cognitive/intellectuality, belief, commitment, ritual,  religious experiences, consequences. Research implications/limitations - This study offers a novel multidimensional framework for character education that can be operasionalized for assesment, curriculum design, and pedagogical intervention across diverse educational context. Originality/value - This research can help in the development of a religious education curriculum in university that is more effective and relevant to the needs of students
