Abstract

The impression of the loss of manners and ethics in education today is a phenomenon in itself, including in education in Indonesia. Unpraised behaviour in the world of education above would undoubtedly not have happened if all parties prioritised manners, morals and adab. Noble character is one of the things that students must have in addition to the strength of religious spirituality. Religious spirituality has become a new label, style, and identity in educational studies. In Islamic civilisation, spirituality is more synonymous with the term Sufism. This article discusses Sufism as an approach to Islamic religious education which is focused on conventional and transformative Sufism and its implementation in Islamic education in schools. This article uses a literature approach without field research as well as the use of library sources in the form of books, journal articles and other documents that are considered relevant to the discussion. The analysis uses content analysis. From the results of the study, it was found that the implementation of Sufism in Islamic education can be implemented by approaching the relationship between religion and science which offers models of conflict, independence, dialogue and integration. Each of these models has its own consequences. Therefore, in implementing it, it is necessary to consider less harm. Although the implementation is definitely not as easy as imagined. Especially in modern times with the openness of information that can hinder the process of implementing Sufism in Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of internalizing environmental character values through Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at SMP Alam Insan Mulia Lubuklinggau. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, vice principal for curriculum, and Islamic studies teachers. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that the internalization process follows three stages: value transformation, value transaction, and transinternalization, aligned with Thomas Lickona’s character components moral knowing, moral feeling, and moral action. The theoretical novelty of this study lies in integrating Lickona’s framework with Islamic values in the unique context of a nature-based Islamic school, which remains underexplored in existing literature. Practically, the findings offer insights for teachers and principals to design contextual IRE learning and for policymakers to promote Islamic-based environmental education. This study is limited to a single school context, hence its findings are not broadly generalizable; future research should involve diverse educational settings to enrich theoretical and practical perspectives. Highlights: Three-Stage Process: Internalization is done through transformation, transaction, and transinternalization stages. Lickona’s Integration: Combines moral knowing, feeling, and action with Islamic values. Contextual Insight: Offers a unique case from a nature-based Islamic school, informing IRE teaching practice and policy. Keywords: Value Internalization, Environmental Character, Islamic Education, Nature-Based School

Abstract

This study explores the moral development strategies implemented at SD Muhammadiyah Suro to foster anti-bullying attitudes among elementary students. Bullying remains a serious concern in school environments, with detrimental impacts on children's physical, psychological, and social well-being. To mitigate this issue, schools are required to adopt comprehensive moral education approaches that nurture empathy, respect, and prosocial behavior. This research employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the school principal, teachers, and selected students, as well as classroom observations. Secondary data were collected through document analysis of school policies and programs related to moral development. The findings reveal that the school integrates several key strategies: Islamic-based character education, positive behavior habituation, teacher modeling, and restorative conflict resolution practices. These efforts are also supported by extracurricular activities that promote empathy and collaboration among students. The study concludes that moral development strategies grounded in religious and character values, when consistently applied and supported by the involvement of educators, parents, and the broader school community, can cultivate a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. Such strategies play a crucial role in shaping students’ moral awareness, fostering resilience, and promoting social responsibility.

Data triangulation was used to test the validity of the data. The research results indicate that: 1) The stronger the intention and motivation to memorize the Al-Qur'an, the greater the effort that will be made. 2) Each individual has a different memory capacity. Some find it easier to remember, while others require more time. 3) Concentration and the ability to focus on memorization without distractions will be very helpful. 4) Understanding the meaning of the verses being memorized can strengthen memory and make memorization more meaningful. 5) Linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence can influence the speed of memorization. Consequently, based on the research results above, many students were able to complete the memorization of Juz 30 of the Al-Qur'an in less than 1 year

Abstract

In the process of instilling Islam Washatiyah, it is necessary for Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers to provide deep understanding of religion to students and to be skilled in motivating them to apply it consciously in their lives. Although the role of Islamic teachers in instilling Islam Washatiyah is crucial, there are numerous challenges in its implementation. One of the challenges is the limited or incorrect understanding of Islam Washatiyah among some students. In some cases, religious teaching in schools still tends to be dogmatic and does not emphasize the values of Islam Washatiyah. Furthermore, external challenges, such as the influence of social media that often spreads extreme ideologies, worsen the situation, thus requiring specific strategies to instill the values of Islam Washatiyah in students. The purpose of this study is to describe and understand the role of PAI teachers in instilling the values of Islam Washatiyah in students at Madrasah Aliyah Muhammadiyah 1 in Malang City. This study uses a qualitative method with a field research design. The data collection methods used by the researcher include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the role of religious teachers in instilling Islam Washatiyah includes: first, the role as educators; second, the role as role models; third, the role as facilitators; and fourth, the role as evaluators.
