Abstract

<p>Seaweed is an important biological resource for human life, serving essential ecological functions, including providing shelter and feeding grounds for marine biota. Seaweed can be found in several Indonesian waters, growing naturally or through cultivation, including in the waters around Simeulue Island. This study aimed to assess the distribution of seaweed in relation to land suitability, using oceanographic parameters in Simeulue Island waters. The research was conducted at five stations within the West Teupah District, South Teupah District, and Alafan District. In situ measurements were taken to evaluate land suitability for seaweed growth based on oceanographic parameters such as current speed, depth, substrate type, salinity, temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen. Results indicated that seaweed in Simeulue Island waters is distributed along the coastline and attached to coral reefs and rocks at depths of 2-5 meters. The total area of seaweed distribution is approximately 351.83 hectares along a coastline of 206.12 km. The measured parameters of seaweed habitats include a pH of 7.7 to 7.9, salinity of 31-35.3 ppt, temperature of 20-30 °C, dissolved oxygen levels of 3-4.8 mg/L, depth of 2-5 meters, current speed of 0.10 to 0.60 m/s, and a sandy coral substrate. Based on these water quality and substrate parameters, the seaweed habitats in Simeulue Island are classified as highly suitable, with suitability values ranging from 64 to 82. The recorded environmental conditions collectively support optimal seaweed growth.</p>

Abstract

Development of Web-Based Assessment for Pancasila Student Character in Senior High Schools: This study aims to develop a web-based student character assessment system oriented toward the Pancasila Student Profile for the Senior High School level. The system integrates three assessment methods teacher assessment, peer assessment, and self-assessment to gather comprehensive and objective data about student character. The instrument used in this system is based on six core dimensions of the Pancasila Student Profile: faith and devotion to God Almighty, global diversity, cooperation, independence, critical reasoning, and creativity. Each dimension includes five indicators, resulting in 30 items in total. Instrument development followed the Orindo & Antonio (1984) model, while the web system design adopted principles from Martin & Betrus (2019), emphasizing digital efficiency and functional design. Research findings show the developed system is valid, reliable, and efficient. Content validity testing yielded an average Aiken’s index of 0.882, and construct validity was confirmed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) with satisfactory model fit results (p ≥ 0.05; RMSEA ≤ 0.08; CFI, TLI, IFI ≥ 0.95; factor loadings > 0.3). All six dimensions showed Composite Reliability (CR) scores above 0.7, and Cronbach’s Alpha reached 0.859, indicating strong internal consistency. The system was built using PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL. Expert validation yielded an average Aiken’s index of 0.941, affirming its visual and functional quality. A practicality test with 50 teachers produced an average score of 86%, indicating the system is highly practical. Integration of multiple assessment types allows for data triangulation and comprehensive character evaluation. The system supports teachers in assessing and fostering character, simplifies the process, enhances transparency, and enables real-time data analysis, offering a scalable and effective digital solution for character education in Senior high schools. Keyword: web based assessment, character, pancasila student, EFA, CFA.

Abstract

The durability of concrete can be determined from mixing coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, cement, water, with or without additives. The properties of concrete can be influenced by several things, such as the ratio of the mix, how to mix, how to transport, how to print, and how to compact. To analyze the compressive strength, flexural strength and split tensile strength of concrete submerged in sea water with variations in fineness modulus. The compressive strength results were 35.67Mpa, 31.63Mpa, 29.30Mpa respectively while the compressive strength of concrete with seawater immersion was 36.94Mpa, 36.52Mpa and 30.15Mpa. The split tensile strength results were 2.71Mpa, 2.65Mpa and 1.91MPa respectively, while the split tensile strength of concrete immersing in seawater with the same variations were 3.29MPa, 2.76MPa and 2.12MPa, respectively. The results of flexural strength were 4.22Mpa, 4.21Mpa, and 4.14MPa respectively, while the flexural strength of concrete with seawater immersion with the same variations were 4.27MPa, 4.22MPa, and 4.18MPa, respectively. The effect of fine grain modulus on compressive strength, split tensile strength and resulting flexural strength is very significant, the higher the fineness modulus of the coarse aggregate, the smaller the resulting value.

Abstract

Dryland farming in tropical climates, such as Timor Island, East Nusa Tenggara, faces numerous challenges, including low and variable rainfall, limited water resources, and soil degradation. Intelligent control technology and the Internet of Things (IoT) offer innovative solutions to address these challenges through environmental monitoring and control in agricultural systems, aiming to improve efficiency and productivity. This study aims to examine the opportunities and challenges of developing relevant IoT-based intelligent control systems, as well as potential solutions for managing dryland farming with IoT applications. The research is conducted through a literature review of dryland farming conditions and the challenges of using IoT applications, environmental condition monitoring of dryland using IoT devices, and identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of using intelligent IoT-based applications. The research findings indicate that the dominance of dryland, combined with low water availability, requires optimal agricultural irrigation management while still maximizing plant growth and productivity. The application of intelligent technology for real-time monitoring and control is essential for managing the climate in dryland areas, representing an opportunity amid the challenges of managing horticultural dryland farming. These research results also serve as a reference for the development and implementation of IoT-based intelligent technology control in the dryland farming sector.

Abstract

Indonesia’s mining sector, particularly in areas like Morowali Regency, Central Sulawesi, faces significant geotechnical challenges due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire. One of the key concerns in open-pit mining operations is slope instability, which can lead to landslides, threaten worker safety, damage infrastructure, and disrupt production. This study evaluates the slope stability in the Sambalagi site of PT. Wosindo Berkat Abadi using the Morgenstern-Price method, a limit equilibrium approach known for its accuracy in heterogeneous slope conditions. Field data were collected, including slope geometry, geological conditions, material strength, and hydrogeological factors. The safety factor (FK) was calculated based on geotechnical parameters such as cohesion, internal friction angle, and unit weight of the slope materials primarily saprolite and limonite. The actual slope FK value at PIT D was found to be 0.974, below the standard requirement (≥1.3) set by the Ministerial Decree No. 1827K/30/MEM/2018. To improve stability, a revised slope design was proposed, including reducing slope angles to 35°, increasing bench widths to 2 meters, and decreasing slope height per bench to 4 meters. The simulation of this revised geometry showed that it could achieve the required FK value. The study contributes to safer and more efficient mine planning by demonstrating the importance of integrating detailed geotechnical analysis in slope design, especially in tropical high-rainfall mining regions.

Abstract

Abstract

Millions of pets are temporarily placed in shelters, making it challenging for shelters to ensure pets find permanent homes. High adoption rates are crucial for animal welfare and the sustainability of shelter operations. This study aims to identify key factors influencing pet adoption and create classification metrics using five machine learning (ML) classification model approaches to predict the likelihood of pet adoption, to find the best model performance for each analysis. The dataset was obtained from several features related to animal characteristics and adoption conditions. The results of the study present classification of metric models that indicate decision tree and random forest (RF) as the most effective models with superior performance in terms of accuracy and class separation ability. Further research provides initial exploration of ML models that are not only limited to classification models but also model integration into internet of things (IoT) systems for the implementation of a pet adoption prediction system based on ML inference. The implementation of ML classification models helps improve the efficiency of animal adoption programs and optimize shelter operations, ultimately increasing the chances of successful pet adoption. The results of the study provide insights into factors influencing pet adoption, minimizing the length of stay (LOS) in shelters, and contribute to practitioners/ researchers as a reference for exploring new related factors and exploring the performance of ML models, especially classification models.
