Abstract

Seaweed is a living resource that is abundantly available in Indonesian water. However, its utilization in food processing is very limited, especially as functional food products. Seaweed has the potential to be developed as functional food products because it has nutrient and bioactive components that are beneficial for health. Seaweed has a number of bioactive components such as phenolic compound, natural pigment, polysaccharide sulphate, fiber and other bioactive components that has been studied to be advantageous for health. For a seaweed to be developed into functional food product, it must be free from heavy metal and other pollutant contamination, and must contain bioactive components and high nutrients, thus, a good cultivation and postharvest handling standard have to be applied in seaweed farmer level. Moreover, the food processing applied should not damage the bioactive component within the seaweed. Optimization of seaweed processing into functional food product is an alternative for seaweed potential utilization in Indonesia, which could improve the economic value of the seaweed, and more importantly it could provide access for healthy food for community.

Abstract

Ekstrak rumput laut juga telah diteliti  mempengaruhi ekspresi mRNA untuk meningkatkan produksi  sitokin oleh Th1 seperti TNF-α dan IFN-γ, dan menurunkan sitokin yang diproduksi oleh Th2 seperti  IL-4 dan IL-10 serta  meningkatkan produksi IL-2 pada sel limfosit T.Kata kunci: rumput laut; komponen bioaktif; imunomodulatori; makrofagAbstractSeaweed is one of the marine biological resources that is known to contain bioactive compounds to improve human health, such as enhancing the immune system or being as an immunomodulator. This study aims to explain more about the nature of seaweed immunomodulators so that scientific research could be developed in the use of seaweed as an immunomodulator later. Seaweed could increase specific and nonspecific immune systems by involving various immune cells such as macrophage cells, monocytes, or lymphocyte cells through various mechanisms at the cellular level. The role of Immunomodulatory properties of seaweed in increasing macrophage activation occurs through increasing macrophage proliferation, NO production, and cytokine secretion. Seaweed would modulate macrophage activity in vitro and in vivo through the expression of inflammatory receptors and cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), NO and PGE2 production and NOS-gene expression 2 and COX-2. Seaweed immunomodulatory activity would also occur through increasing function and activity of lymphocytes that stimulate the activity of B lymphocyte cells, production of antibody immunoglobulin (Ig), T cell proliferation and production of T lymphocyte subsets such as CD4 and CD8. Seaweed extracts also have been investigated to be able to affect mRNA expression to increase cytokine production by Th1 such as TNF-α and IFN-γ, decrease cytokines produced by Th2 such as IL-4 and IL-10 and increase IL-2 production in T lymphocytes. Keywords: seaweed; bioactive components; immunomodulatory; macrophage

Abstract

Indonesia is a maritime country that has seaweed natural resources that have the potential to be developed. Several types of seaweed have started to be cultivated by manipulating the cultivation environment such as providing various types of fertilizers to complement nutrient needs. This research was carried out at the Hatchery Laboratory of the Aquaculture Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University in February -March 2020 which aims to determine the growth rate of Caulerpa racemosa by applying liquid organic fertilizer with different concentrations in the cultivation media. The design used was a non-factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications, namely A Control (without giving liquid organic fertilizer), B (giving liquid organic fertilizer with a concentration of 0.22 mL fertilizer/L water), C (giving organic fertilizer). liquid concentration of 0.28 mL of fertilizer/L of water) and D (giving of liquid organic fertilizer with a concentration of 0.34 mL of fertilizer/L of water). The results showed that the application of liquid organic fertilizer had a very significant effect on the length growth rate of seaweed (Caulerpa racemosa). The best growth rate was in treatment D with a length growth rate of 9.2 cm. There was no significant difference between the weight growth rate and the regeneration rate of the thallus. However, based on the growth yield data for all treatments, it can be said that the higher the concentration of liquid fertilizer used, the better the growth of seaweed (Caulerpa racemosa). Keywords: Caulerpa rasemosa; Pertumbuhan; Pupuk cair; Rumput Laut.

Abstract

LAS (Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate) surfactants are the main cleaning agents from the anionic group found in detergents that are widely used in Indonesia. LAS decomposes in surface water for 1-2 days, in sediments it decomposes for 1-3 days, in marine and estuarine systems it decomposes for 5-10 days. LAS is generally degraded by as much as 90% within 3 months, with a time ranging from 5-30 days (World Health Organization, 1996). LAS surfactants can cause damage to the gill epithelium and blockage of branchiola channels in fish. This study aims to determine the toxic effect of LAS surfactant on the survival of white snapper (Lates calcarifer) fry and to determine the toxicity value of LC50 (Lethal Concentration) of LAS surfactant to white snapper (Lates calcarifer) fry on a laboratory scale. This research was carried out on September 21 - October 04, 2021 at the Marine Science Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Malikussaleh University using laboratory experimental methods with 5 treatments, namely: control treatment A (0 ppm), B (0.83 ppm), C (1.58 ppm). ), D (2.16 ppm), and E (2.91 ppm). The results of this study cause barramundi to experience irregular movements, mouth opening and operculum tend to be fast and irregular, scales are pale and peeling, and cause death, LAS surfactants affect water quality such as pH and dissolved oxygen, but have no effect on salinity and temperature. The 24-hour LC50 value is 1.95 ppm, the 48-hour LC50 value is 1.86 ppm, the 72-hour LC50 value is 1.70 ppm, and the 96-hour LC50 value is 1.58 ppm.Key words: LAS surfactant; LC50; toxicity; white snapper

Abstract

Strengthening disciplinary character education through disciplinary development is an inseparable part of Islamic boarding schools. As traditional Islamic educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools have broader goals than simply transmitting religious knowledge. One of the main goals of Islamic boarding schools is to form an Islamic character in students. Discipline is a means of creating attitudes and behaviors that are contrary to the teachings of the Islamic religion, including obedience, patience, and responsibility. This research aims to find and explain discipline development activities in strengthening character education in Islamic boarding schools. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with a field focus at the Al-Istiqamah Ngatabaru Modern Islamic Boarding School, Central Sulawesi. Data collection methods are carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis method uses data reduction techniques, presentation, verification, and conclusions. The research found that strengthening disciplinary character education and developing disciplinary character were two important activities at the Al-Istiqamah Ngatabaru Modern Islamic Boarding School, South Sulawesi. Through these two activities, the disciplined character of students can be realized to support various religious activities in Islamic boarding schools. From this disciplined character in participating in religious activities, students become individuals who master a lot of religious knowledge and always behave well in everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate PPG students' perceptions regarding the program's effective implementation at UIN Datokarama Palu and identify factors that affect the program's effectiveness. The research method used is a mixed method in which we simultaneously employed quantitative and qualitative methods. We surveyed the distribution of questionnaires using Google Forms and conducted in-depth interviews with several PPG students. The results indicate that most students consider the PPG relevant to improving teachers’ competencies and skills. The competencies include selecting, planning, developing, using, and actualizing various classroom teaching materials. Meanwhile, the skills include practicing digital learning and choosing and using relevant teaching material in digital format. However, various obstacles still exist, such as the lack of active interaction in learning, internet connection issues, and the mismatch between task load and available time. Based on the findings, this study recommends improving technological infrastructure, strengthening mentoring, and re-evaluating the curriculum and program management to enhance the Effectiveness of PPG in the future. Future studies should focus on increasing PPG students’ engagement experience during the online PPG program delivery.
