Abstract

This study is motivated by the low productivity of coastal communities in processing marine waste into economically valuable handicrafts. One of the main obstacles is the lack of proper production tools, which results in inefficient and time-consuming work processes. The purpose of this research is to analyse the effect of production machine effectiveness on increasing the productivity of coastal communities in Batam City. The study adopts a quantitative approach with a descriptive-associative design. Data were collected from 30 respondents using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analysed through validity and reliability tests, multiple linear regression, and classical assumption tests. The results show that the variables of effectiveness, ease of use, and work safety have a significant simultaneous effect on productivity. The regression model formed is: Y = 32.911 – 0.520X₁ + 0.291X₂ – 0.417X₃, with an adjusted R square value of 0.655. This indicates that 65.5% of the variation in community productivity can be explained by the three variables. This research confirms that the use of production machines can serve as a strategic solution to improve work efficiency and productivity among coastal communities. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for developing future community empowerment programs based on appropriate technology.

Abstract

Assistance in the accreditation of scientific journals is a strategic step in improving the quality of academic publication governance, especially in the Defense Electrical Engineering Study Program at the Magelang Military Academy. Scientific journals play an important role as a medium for disseminating the research results of lecturers and cadets, as well as a means of strengthening the culture of research and scientific development in the field of defense technology. Therefore, efforts to assist journal accreditation are an urgent need so that journal management meets the national standards set by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The mentoring activities are focused on strengthening journal management based on Open Journal Systems (OJS), starting from structuring the editorial structure, preparing publication ethics policies, improving article templates, to optimizing the peer review process. In addition, the assistance also includes improving the quality of the article substance, publication consistency, completeness of metadata, and fulfilling the technical aspects of accreditation such as DOI, indexation, and citation. Through a participatory approach, the coaching team works intensively with journal managers to ensure that each stage of accreditation can be understood and implemented properly. The results of the mentoring activities showed a significant increase in journal managers' understanding of accreditation standards, improved quality of editorial governance, and the readiness of journals to participate in the national accreditation process. This assistance not only has an impact on the administrative aspect, but also encourages the professionalism of the management and the sustainability of the journal as an academic asset of the institution. With the realization of accredited journals, the Defense Electrical Engineering Study Program at the Magelang Military Academy is expected to be able to strengthen its academic reputation, support the tridharma of higher education, and contribute to the development of national defense science and technology.

Abstract

The failure of edutainment ventures has become an important issue in the field of educational entrepreneurship (edupreneurship), particularly in Indonesia where empirical studies on local edutainment practices remain limited. This study aims to analyze the factors contributing to the failure of NNS Batam, a role-play-based edutainment park for children that operated from 2019 to 2024, using a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected from four categories of informants—former managers, former employees, visitors, and edupreneurship scholars—through semi-structured interviews, location observation, and digital documentation. Thematic analysis revealed that the failure was not solely caused by external disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic but also by internal weaknesses including poor business strategy, lack of meaningful integration of educational values, absence of continuous innovation, and inadequate evaluation mechanisms. A notable gap was found between the company’s educational vision and its operational practices. Expert informants emphasized that sustainable edupreneurship requires synergy between pedagogical value and financial strategy. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of edutainment business failures in emerging urban contexts and offers practical insights for edupreneurs seeking to design adaptive, value-driven, and resilient education-based ventures.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how culinary simplicity contributes to the formation of customer loyalty at Warung Mak Yah, located in the coastal area of Nongsa, Batam. The phenomenon of high visitation frequency at a modest breakfast stall with limited facilities and minimal menu variations serves as the primary background of this research. The study employs a qualitative approach using an exploratory case study method. Data were collected through direct observation, in-depth interviews with the owner and customers, and documentation, and were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns and meanings emerging from customer experiences. The findings indicate that customer loyalty is formed through a combination of taste consistency, the emotional experience created by the coastal atmosphere, close social interaction, and perceived affordability. Taste consistency (28%) and coastal ambiance (27%) emerged as the dominant factors influencing repeat visits, while social interaction (18%) and affordable pricing (18%) functioned as supporting factors, and menu simplicity (9%) was perceived as an acceptable characteristic within the context of a simple breakfast stall. This study concludes that in small-scale local culinary businesses, customer loyalty is shaped more by authentic experiences and consistent quality than by product complexity or modern facilities. The findings contribute to the literature on consumer loyalty within local culinary contexts based on experiential and relational dimensions.
