Abstract

The availability of clean water remains a challenge in various regions, including Gegerung Village, West Lombok Regency, which relies on the Meninting River as its primary source of clean water. The construction of the Meninting Dam has led to increased water turbidity due to construction activities and exposed rock formations for dam infrastructure, necessitating an effective water purification solution to ensure safety and suitability for consumption. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a combination of local filtration media, including ijuk (palm fiber), activated carbon, and zeolite, supplemented with pumice and/or silica sand. The research employs an experimental approach using an up-flow filtration system with three different media configurations. All configurations include ijuk, activated carbon, and zeolite, with variations introduced by adding silica sand, pumice, or both silica sand and pumice. Water samples were tested before and after filtration for turbidity, total suspended solids (TSS), pH, and dissolved oxygen (DO). The findings indicate that pumice is highly effective in reducing turbidity and TSS, achieving reductions of 89.4% and 96.56%, respectively. However, pumice use tends to decrease DO levels by up to 55%, making the filtered water quality suitable only for non-consumptive purposes based on DO standards. These results highlight the need for optimizing the combination of filtration media to maintain overall water quality. Further research is required to refine the filtration system to meet clean water standards

Abstract

Agricultural practices in drylands need to be continuously encouraged so that communities can utilize existing efficient irrigation technology. Irrigation tests on perforated pipe networks need to be conducted to test the distribution of secondary discharge due to the addition of pipe length in the lateral network of the perforated irrigation system. The test was conducted to determine the ability of the irrigation system to provide flow discharge in the primary and secondary pipe networks and the approach to calculating the perforated discharge network. The irrigation test was conducted on three lateral perforated pipe networks with a diameter of ½” and a perforation hole distance of 0.6m, a water tower with a capacity of 200 liters and a height of 4 meters. The perforated flow discharge was analyzed using basic data in the form of head and network design, the results of the analysis were presented in graphs and tables. The results showed that the secondary network flow rates decreased as the network moved further from the water source. An average increase in flow rate of 0.004 l/s was observed for each 0.1 m increase in head. The distribution of secondary flow rates, with variations in pipe length every 60 cm from hole 1 to 6, resulted in decreasing flow rates. In secondary network 1, the flow rate was 0.301 l/s–0.239 l/s, in secondary network 2, the flow rate was 0.276 l/s–0.226 l/s, and in secondary network 3, the flow rate was 0.267 l/s–0.221 l/s. The difference in secondary flow rates across pipe holes 1 to 6 obtained in secondary 1 was 0.06 l/s, in secondary 2 was 0.052 l/s, and in secondary 3 was approximately 0.049 l/s.

Abstract

Efforts to enhance the performance of simple filtration systems have been continuously developed, one of which involves modifying the flow path within the filter. This study aims to evaluate the effect of incorporating a horizontal section into the filter pipe on its ability to reduce turbidity and Total Suspended Solids (TSS). The study was conducted using an experimental approach by comparing a vertikal pipe filter with a U-shaped pipe filter featuring variations in horizontal pipe length. The performance of each filter configuration was evaluated based on its effectiveness in reducing turbidity and TSS, and by determining the relative performance index to assess differences in filtration efficiency between configurations. The results indicate that the addition of a horizontal section to the filter pipe significantly enhances filtration efficiency. An increase in the horizontal pipe length corresponds to greater reductions in turbidity and TSS. The U-shaped pipe filter outperformed the vertikal pipe filter, achieving relative performance indices of 1.7 for turbidity reduction and 1.9 for TSS reduction. The higher performance indices observed for the U-shaped filter suggest that flow path modification in the form of a U-shaped configuration is more effective in removing suspended particles with relatively larger mass, indicating its potential application as a more efficient alternative design for simple filtration systems

Abstract

The increasing area of built-up land and the increasing difficulty in obtaining land for public Green Open Space (RTH) are serious challenges for developing cities like Mataram to obtain water absorption land. Water absorption land is very important for flood control and groundwater conservation to realize sustainable and environmentally friendly urban development. This study aims to create a water absorption land model for Mataram City based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to obtain information on water absorption capacity classes and water absorption land distribution in Mataram City. The research begins with data collection, which is then processed into spatial data. The weighting and scoring of each parameter follow the Regulation of the Minister of Forestry of Indonesia Number 32 of 2009 concerning Procedures for Preparing Forest Land and Watershed Rehabilitation Engineering Plans (RTkRHL-DAS). Modeling was carried out using the overlay method with the help of QGIS software. The results of the study indicate that Mataram City is generally included in the "High" infiltration capacity class with an area reaching 76% of the area of Mataram City, and spread across the Districts of Sandubaya, Cakranegara, Selaparang, Ampenan, and parts of Mataram and Sekarbela Districts. While the rest have potential infiltration capacity in the "Medium" category. There is one district that has a "Very High" water infiltration potential, namely Sayang Sayang District, with an area of 1.08 Ha or 0.02% of the area of Mataram City. Meanwhile, areas with "Low" and "Very Low" infiltration capacity are in Sekarbela District and the southern part of Mataram District.
