Abstract

Abstract

IL-6 has been shown to enhance collagen synthesis and prolong the fibroblast proliferative phase, potentially contributing to uncontrolled keloid growth. However, despite its frequent mention in the literature as a crucial factor in keloid formation, studies specifically exploring the molecular mechanisms of IL-6 in fibroblast regulation and its interaction with other cytokines within keloid tissue remain limited. This study aims to further investigate the role of IL-6 in keloid matrix formation. This study is an analytical study conducted cross-sectionally. The samples used were patients diagnosed with keloids histopathologically based on microscopic criteria. Clinical data were taken from medical records and microscopic and immunohistochemical assessments using paraffin blocks available in the anatomical pathology laboratory of hospitals in Jambi city. There were 36 cases of keloids, aged between 12 and 42 years, mostly in women (66.7%), occurring in the trunk area (77.8%) 30 cases of recurrence (83.3%). We found 24 cases (77.8%) with strong IL-6 immunoexpression. There were 3 cases (8.3%) with no immunoexpression. There was a strong correlation between IL-6 immunoexpression and gender (p=0.03), age(0.04) and recurrence (p=0.02). The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing. The role of fibroblast cells is very important for the process of collagen formation in wound healing, where interleukin-6 in various theories and studies supports the process of collagen formation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of the modernization of the city of Batam on the existence of the Malay House Limas Potong. The method used in this research is historical research. The steps in this research are heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of the study show that the very first simple industrial concept in Batam, which began in 1898, was the Pertuan Muda of Riau, Raja Muhammad Yusuf-Ahmadi on behalf of the Riau Lingga Kingdom, who granted part of Batam Island land to King Abdullah, Raja Ali Kelana and Raja Muhammad Thahir. In 1978 B.J Habibie changed the course of Batam's development. Batam was transformed into the direction of industrial, service, trade, transhipment and tourism. The Malay House Limas Potong once dominated the architectural forms of houses in Batam City. Currently, the construction of a Malay house with the traditional architecture of the Malay House Limas Potong is no longer a prima donna. Construction efficiency, land availability, difficulty in obtaining raw materials, and up to the development of today's architectural models have changed a lot. The only Malay House Limas Potong currently in Batam City is in Kampung Melayu, Nongsa District.

Abstract

The elderly is the final stage in life, which is characterized by many changes, and one of them is tooth loss, which causes disruption to masticatory function, temporomandibular joint (TM) function, and psychological, namely aesthetics and speech function. Aim this community service is increase knowledge of elderly and cadres about maintaining dental health and role of dentures. Implementation method with pre-post tests, lectures and delivery of educational videos about maintaining dental health and the role of dentures for dental and oral health at Posyandu Lansia Kemuning 1, Menteng Atas Village, South Jakarta. Participants in this activity consisted of 35 elderly people, 5 cadres and involved 2 students involving the RT and RW head partners. That was an increase in knowledge from the good category of 5.7% to 82.9%, previous sufficient knowledge from 14.3% to 17.1% and 80% of people with less knowledge to no knowledge. The conclusion is a significant increase in knowledge of cadres and public about role of dentures and oral health and interest of elderly in making dentures as tooth replacements. It is hoped that this program can continue through cadres who have been provided with education through leaflets and videos that have been given to elderly and pre-elderly.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of blended learning model and critical thinking on students’ learning outcomes in acrylic removable partial denture theory course. The research was preceded by designing a blended lesson on acrylic removable partial denture theory course using the ASSURE learning model by considering objective conditions in the Department of Dental Engineering, Health Polytechnic, Ministry of Health, Jakarta II. Experiment was used as the research method with 2x2 treatment by level design. The data analysis was carried out using two- way analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The results of the research found that students’ learning outcomes in the blended learning acrylic removable partial denture theory course were generally better than face-to-face learning, especially in the group of students with high critical thinking. The group of students with low critical thinking did not produce significantly different results.

Abstract

Background: Multibacillary (MB) leprosy features high bacillary load and an immunoregulatory milieu. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study enrolled 70 participants (MB = 35; controls = 35). Categorical variables were compared with Chi-square/Fisher’s exact tests; medians with Mann–Whitney U. Spearman’s rank correlations were computed within groups. Results: Age did not differ (p = 0.458 and p = 1.000), whereas occupation and education did (p = 0.038 and p = 0.029). The Bacterial Index (BI) was markedly higher in MB (median 3 [IQR 4]) than controls (0 [0]; p < 0.001). IL-10 levels were higher in MB (1.97 [4.30] pg/mL) versus controls (1.12 [1.96] pg/mL; p = 0.033). In MB, BI correlated positively with IL-10 (ρ = 0.357; p = 0.035). Conclusions: MB patients exhibit substantially higher bacillary burden and elevated IL-10 relative to controls. The positive BI–IL-10 association in MB supports a tolerogenic immune profile linked to bacterial load, while PGE₂ showed limited discriminatory value in this sample. Larger, adjusted studies are warranted to validate these relationships and explore their clinical utility.
