Abstract

Penggung Village is included in Pacitan Regency, an Agropolitan Area based on the Pacitan Regional Spatial Plan in 2005-2025. Development is carried out in the tourism sector with agriculture as the point. The main commodity is coffee plantations. The development is carried out with the Coffee Plantation Agrotourism concept. It pays attention to the sustainability of the natural environment and can increase the prosperity of the people of Penggung Village. This study aims to analyze the factors that become strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats to developing coffee plantation agro-tourism and can determine the best strategy for achieving success in the development of coffee plantation agro-tourism in Penggung Village, Nawangan District, Pacitan Regency. The method used is a mixed (quantitative and qualitative) SWOT analysis by evaluating strengths and weaknesses as internal factors (IFE), while opportunities and threats as external factors (EFE). The results showed the development of Coffee Plantation Agrotourism in Penggung Village Pacitan Regency is still not optimal in the provision of tourism facilities and infrastructure, as the cultivation technology used is also not optimal. The strategy that can be used is diversification in the fourth quadrant, which gives rise to four strategies. Abstract

Increasing coffee farmer capacity to produce good coffee bean standar was important. The objective of community service activities were to (1) increase community knowledge about coffee trade prospects and the need for quality coffee, (2) increase community understanding of good coffee farming practices to produce quality coffee beans and (3) increase community understanding of how to recognize coffee bean quality based on basic organoleptic tests. Increasing farmers' knowledge and capacity in coffee production can be done by conducting hands-on training involving strategic partners. Partners involved in this activity include coffee farmers around KPH northern Banyuwangi, Perhutani, local community organizations (MWC NU, Karang Taruna) and coffee observers and activists in Banyuwangi Regency. The activities succeeded in increasing community knowledge about coffee trade prospects and quality coffee. The farmers have understood the market and provide quality coffee beans to meet market expectations. This activity improved the community's understanding of good coffee farming practices to produce quality coffee beans. Good cultivation is crucial to coffee's competitiveness and sustainability. This activity succeeded in improving the community's understanding of how to recognize coffee bean quality. The community gained basic knowledge related to basic organoleptic testing, but these skills need to be improved. Participants have been able to separate beans that are defective, broken, infested with fleas/insects, cracked, contain epidermis, and other characteristics that are not suitable as good quality coffee for processing. Overall the activity received good appreciation from the community, it is hoped that in the future assistance will continue.

Abstract

This study investigates the integration of Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) in the sustainable development of Banyuwangi Liberica coffee, focusing on coffee farmers' ancestral heritage and local knowledge systems. Practices in land management, cultivation techniques, pest control, and pruning waste utilization are examined. Through qualitative data analysis from interviews and field observations, the research highlights the depth and significance of LEK in maintaining environmental sustainability and cultural heritage. Liberica coffee farmers possess a wealth of inherited LEK, encompassing ecological dynamics, sustainable agriculture, and natural resource conservation. Farmers integrate this knowledge into decision-making, evaluating innovations through research trials. Adopting appropriate practices preserves local ecosystems and maintains Liberica coffee's authenticity. The study underscores LEK's crucial role in land management and cultivation, with seedlings and repurposing waste for soil fertility. Pruning and using shade plant branches optimize fruit production and microclimate regulation. Natural pest control minimizes chemical pesticide use, preserving the coffee ecosystem's delicate balance and supporting biodiversity. Integrating LEK not only fosters environmental sustainability but also strengthens the community's social and cultural fabric. Coffee farmers' ancestral heritage and deep connection with the land contribute to the resilience of local agricultural practices, promoting the well-being of both farmers and the ecosystem.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and map the differences in ethnobotany of residential gardens with cases of stunting and without stunting. This research is both quantitative and qualitative. Data collection was carried out using semi-structured interviews and field observations at 20 points of the squared plot of vegetation observations which also became a source of information. The data obtained was then analyzed for vegetation using the Shannon-Wiener index method and the use value of species. The results showed that there were differences in preferences for the use of plants in local community settlements with cases of stunting and non-stunting. Utilization of plants with the highest UVs were in settlements with cases of stunting, namely Zingiber officinale, Pandanus amaryllifolius and Amorphophallus muelleri, while in the yards without stunting cases were Actinocarpus commansi Blanco, Magnolia acuminata (L.) , Moringa olefira Lam, and Artocarpus altilis (Parkison ex F.A.Zorn) Fosberg. Communities in settlements without stunting cases consume intensely sources of food from their garden plots, while people in settlements with stunting cases do not. In particular, Moringa plants are only found in residential yard gardens without stunting and are not found in settlements with stunting cases.

Abstract

Highlight Research Anthropogenic factors are the main cause of damage to mangrove ecosystems Restoration is a method for ecosystem restoration Restoration success is seen from the physical, chemical, and biological parameters Phytoplankton is a bioindicator of water quality The abundance of mangroves can explain the state of an ecosystem   Abstract Mangrove ecosystems in Sine and Pancer Cengkrong had degraded due to land-use change and restoration has been carried out over a few year on the damaged location. This study was conducted to evaluate water quality of mangrove ecosystems at both locations based on physical, chemical and phytoplankton parameters as bioindicators. The evaluation of Cengkrong Mangrove was carried out at 4 different locations based on different periode of restoration, namely restoration of 2008-2009, 2013-2014, natural mangroves, and 2005 succession mangroves, whereas there was only one sampling site at Sine mangrove namely 1998-2008 restoration. The physico-chemical parameters measured include water temperature, air temperature, conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), salinity, nitrate, and orthophosphate. Phytoplankton data was used to measure, trophic diatom index (TDI) as an indicator of water nutrition status, and pollution tolerant value (%PTV) as an indicator of organic pollution. The results showed that the water quality at all the study locations met the Indonesian Ministry of Environment Regulation No 51/2004, except nitrate and phosphate. Based on the TDI index, mangrove in Sine, Cengkrong 2013-2014 restoration, and 2005 succession mangroves were categorized as hyper-eutrophic, natural Cengkrong mangroves were categorized as eutrophic, and 2008-2009 restored Cengkrong mangroves were categorized as meso-eutrophic. Based on the %PTV index, in the Sine mangrove, 2013-2014 Cengkrong restoration, and 2005 succession mangroves were classified as high levels of organic matter pollution, while in the Cengkrong 2008-2009 restoration and natural Cengkrong were classified as a moderate level of organic pollution.
