Abstract

The Effectiveness Test of Extracts Of Betel Leaf (Piper Betle L.), Kirinyuh (Chromoloena Odorata) and Tembelekan (Lantana Camara L.) Against The Population of Root Knot Nematodes (Meloidogyne Spp.) and Plant Growth of Chili (Capsicum Annuum L.)Meloidogyne spp. was one of the parasitic nematode pests on crops of chili. Meloidogyne spp. was widespread in tropical regions and subtropik area.. Attacks of Meloidogyne spp. at the root can lower the production of the crops by 15 – 60 percent, even can reach 70 percent when the disease attacks vulnerable plants (Prihanto,1989). This research was carried out in a way controlling root knot nematodes on chili uses extract of 3 species of plants in a variety of concentrations with the aim to obtain a concentration from the plants that are very effective at suppressing the development of root knot nematodes and can suppress the population in the soil and as well to surpress the attacks on plant roots. The types of plants that will be used in this research is kirinyuh (Chromolaena odorata), tembelekan (Lantana camara) and betel leaf (Piper betle) in different concentrations to know their ability to suppress populations of root knot nematodes of chili. The leaves of the plant contains useful materials to suppress plant pests including root knot nematodes. From the three of leaf extract that have been used, the betel leaf extract effectively suppress the populations of nematodes on crops of chili for being able to put pressure against the population of the nematode in the soil or plant roots of chili. At the concentrations of 50 cc/polybag betel extracts are able to suppress the nematode population to 93% and on the concentration of 200cc/ polybag betel extracts was able to suppress populations of nematodes were 96.4%.

Abstract

Isolation and Degradation Test of Cellulolytic Bacteria from Organic Waste at TPST-3R Kertalangu and TPST-3R Nangun Resik Against Jepun Bali Flowers Cellulolytic bacteria are microorganisms that produce cellulase enzymes that can synergistically hydrolyze crystalline cellulose into smaller oligosaccharides and eventually become glucose which can be used by these microorganisms as a source of nutrients for their growth. Cellulose acts as an inducer in cellulase synthesis which has two functions, namely as an inducer in enzyme synthesis and as a carbon source for cell growth. This study aims to obtain bacteria that are able to degrade organic waste samples using several methods, namely bacterial isolation, selective media, identification of bacterial colony morphology and qualitative bacterial degradation test. The results of this study indicated the presence of bacterial growth in selective CMC media and showed the ability of bacteria to degrade organic waste samples on Gelatine media. The results of bacterial isolation on CMC media with a dilution level of 10-8 were found 14 bacterial isolates in the TPST-3R Kertalangu sample and 16 bacterial isolates in the TPST-3R Nangun Resik sample. Each isolate was classified based on colony morphology, obtained three different isolates. Isolates taken from TPS Kertalangu were coded A, B, and C while isolates taken from TPST-3R Nangun Resik were coded E, F, and G. Most of the surface is convex, and flat. Based on the results of the calculation of the cellulolytic index, it was found that only isolate G was in the medium category and the other isolates had a high category value. The formation of a clear zone around the colonies that grew on CMC media showed that the isolate had cellulolytic activity measured qualitatively. The results of the analysis of the degradation ability of the Bali Jepun flower samples showed that isolate F was the fastest degraded isolate with an average of 3.5 days.

Abstract

Detection Of The Existence of Liberobacter Asiaticum in Citrus Stricken with Sympthoms of Partial CVPD Citrus Vein Phloem Degeneration (CVPD) is a major disease of citrus caused by Gram-negative bacteria Liberobacter asiaticum. The symptoms of the disease were varied due to many factors such as type of pathogenic races of the pathogen, types of citrus trees, and the presence or spread of plant pathogens in the plant. This study aims to detect the existence or distribution of pathogens of CVPD in citrus plant with partial symptoms. Samples were taken from the bone leaves, bark twigs, bark of branches and bark of stem whether symptomatic or non symptomatic. Sampling was carried out in Plaga village, Badung Regency, Bali and analysis of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was conducted in UPT Lab Genetics Resources and Molecular Biology, Udayana University. The results of this study indicate that the amplified DNA of 1160 bp was found in the first plant that was  symptomatic leaf, twig bark of leaf symptomatic and non symptomatic leaves. While on the second sample of citrus plants, DNA fragments were found on the leaves and symptomatic leaf and non symptomatic, and they were not found in other parts of plant, namely twig bark, branch bark, bark of stem. These results indicate that in citrus with partial symptoms the distribution of pathogens L. asiaticumwere only partial in plant.

Abstract

The Potential of Predator Coccinella transversalis Fabricius (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) as A Biology Control Agent Thrips parvispinus Karny (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) in Chili Plant (Capsicum annuum L.)Thrips parvispinus Karny (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) is one of the main pests in the cultivation of chili. T. parvispinus existence can damage chili plants and decrease production. This study aims to determine the potential of predator Coccinella transversalis required predation testing which includes a value of searching time (a), handling time (Th) and functional response C. transversalis to T. parvispinus on chili plants. The prey densities presented were 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22 individuals. The exposure is done for twelve hours. Predator C. transversalis used is a female imago that has been fasted for 24 hours. The determination of functional response type was analyzed by regression analysis, while the predation rate is analyzed using Holling formula. The results showed that the prey density affects the predation rate and the functional response type C. Transversalis. The rate of C. transversalis predation is significantly different in each number of prey exposed. Similarly, on the basis of regression analysis, it is shown that C. transversalis has a functional response of type I to T. parvispinus prey. These results indicate that C. transversalis has potential as a biological control agent.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Population Abundance and Rice Stem Borer Attack on Rice in Tabanan Regency Tabanan Regency is rice production center in Bali Province. In terms of rice production in 2009 Tabanan Regency can produce 242.000 tons of grain per year, still rice production in the field has many obstacles, one of which is the rice stem borer can attack plants in the vegetative phase and the generative phase. It is necessary for the proper control measures, through an ecological approach and monitoring system to control rice stem borer in the field. The pattern of population growth which include diversity and population dynamics of the rice stem borer in the field, it is helpful for decision-making in determining control strategies appropriate to the circumstances on the ground pests. Found four species of rice stem winches in Tabanan Regency. The fourth species is Scirpophaga incertulas Walker, Sesamia inferens Walker, Chilo suppressalis Walker, and Chilo polychrysus Meyrick. S. incertulas is the dominant species found at each altitude. Rice stem borer species diversity is low <1.5, The value of the index of similarity between the study site reached a value of 86 % and 100 % . The structure of the rice stem borer populations between egg , larva , pupa and imago fluctuate every stage of plant development and reached its peak at the age of  rice 2 Weeks after planting egg stage , 4 Weeks after planting on larval and imago , 5 Weeks after planting at the pupa stage. The highest population abundance indicated S. incertulas at an altitude <250 (0-250) masl (meters above sea level), with the highest attack percentage at a height <250 (0-250) masl.   Keywords: Rice stem borer, species diversity, abundance, percentage.
