Abstract

Marriage is still viewed as the main norm of adult life in Indonesian culture, so individuals who choose not to marry often face social pressure and negative stigma. This condition requires self-acceptance skills so that individuals can maintain their psychological well-being. This study aims to understand the process of self-acceptance in individuals who choose not to marry in the Indonesian context. The study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. The participants consisted of five adult women, ranging from early adulthood to late adulthood, who consciously chose not to marry. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results showed that self-acceptance was formed through a process of continuous self-reflection, influenced by life experiences and social interactions. Self-acceptance is reflected in unconditional acceptance, a realistic view of oneself, self-esteem that does not depend on marital status, authenticity, and openness to emotional experiences. Self-acceptance acts as a protective mechanism that maintains psychological well-being.

Abstract

Adolescent mental health is a fundamental aspect in supporting the academic, social, and emotional development of junior high school students. This study aims to describe in depth the mental health conditions of students at SMP Negeri X in Central Halmahera Regency, located in the 3T (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost) region. The focus of the study includes students' understanding of mental health, emotional regulation skills, awareness of seeking help, empathy and social interaction, as well as teachers' views and roles in supporting students' mental health. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. The research subjects consisted of six students and three teachers selected purposively. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observation, and supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that students have a basic understanding of mental health, but it is still limited and tends to simplify the concept of mental health as the absence of stress or severe disorders. Students' emotional regulation abilities are in the developing stage, with a combination of adaptive and maladaptive coping strategies. Awareness of seeking help is still low, indicated by students' tendency to prefer peers over adults. Social interaction and empathy are relatively positive, although stigma against emotional expression is still found. Teachers recognize the importance of student mental health, but face limitations in competency, facilities, and policy support. This study concludes that strengthening mental health literacy, increasing teacher capacity, and developing sustainable and contextual school support systems in the 3T (United Nations, 3T) regions is necessary.

Abstract

Current classroom management in Indonesian pesantren often neglects psycho-spiritual dimensions essential for mitigating academic stress, while empirical evidence on faith-based interventions remains scarce. This quasi-experimental study aimed to evaluate the impact of a structured eight-week Islamic psycho-education intervention on student engagement and academic stress levels. Using a pretest–posttest non-equivalent control group design, participants were 60 pesantren students selected through purposive sampling. The experimental group received an Islamic psycho–education–based classroom management intervention integrated into routine instructional activities, incorporating the muhasabah technique and reflective learning journals grounded in selected Qur’anic verses. Data were collected using the Student Engagement Scale (SES) and the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scales (DASS-21). MANCOVA analysis revealed that the intervention significantly increased student engagement (mean difference = +12.4, p < 0.01) and reduced academic stress (−9.7, p < 0.05) compared to controls. Specifically, the integration of tawakal and tazkiyah emerged as a dominant predictor of reduced anxiety (β = −0.42, p = 0.003). This study advances educational and Islamic psychology by empirically supporting the integration of Islamic spiritual constructs into psycho-educational interventions. In practice, the findings support the use of structured Islamic psycho-education in pesantren classroom management and student counseling, offering a culturally responsive model for policy and curriculum development in faith-based education.

Abstract

Discriminatory parenting is the consistent unfair or differential treatment of children by parents, which then negatively impacts the child’s mental health. This study explores in depth the impact of discriminatory parenting and family violence on an individual’s mental health. This qualitative case study focuses on the experiences of a young adult who felt neglected and under-represented, especially financially, compared to her siblings. In addition, she experienced repeated physical violence from authority figures that left her deeply traumatized, compounded by the lack of protection from other family members. This condition triggered feelings of anger, injustice, disgust, and even suicidal ideation. Despite the various pressures, the participant showed significant resilience, developing adaptive coping mechanisms such as isolating herself, crying, and seeking comfort through art. Crucial support from close friends was a significant turning point that helped her through difficult times, demonstrating the vital role of social support in resilience. Spiritual beliefs also provided an internal source of strength that allowed her to find meaning in her suffering and view challenges as a process of self-strengthening. The results of this study confirm that discriminatory and abusive parenting can seriously damage mental health, but also highlight the extraordinary capacity of individuals to survive and find a way out. Practical implications emphasize the need for comprehensive psychological interventions, such as Client-Centered Therapy, CBT, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Narrative Therapy, as well as the importance of psychoeducation and strengthening social support networks for vulnerable individuals.

Abstract

This study explores how prayer helps women in Solo Raya who experience stress after non-procedural abortions achieve psychological peace. This research used a qualitative phenomenological method with data collection through interviews and observations. Partner pressure and social stigma led to abortion, which led to guilt, somatic symptoms, and suicidal ideation. Initially, non-adaptive coping mechanisms, such as isolation, transformed into adaptive coping mechanisms, with prayer providing a sense of calm, forgiveness, and emotional strength rather than hobbies or social support. The sequence of ablutions made the informants feel cleaner and purer. Continuing with dhikr and prayer, inner peace enveloped them. The results of the prayers also made the informants feel more optimistic in living their lives and were able to avoid anxiety and stress.

Abstract

Slow-learning students in the Visual Communication Design (DKV) Expertise Program face challenges in attention, working memory, and visual information processing that are often suboptimal for conventional learning environments. Information technology-based Game-Based Learning (GBL) offers an interactive learning experience that reduces cognitive load through visualization, structured navigation, and immediate feedback. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Articulate Storyline-based GBL in improving ease of learning and design performance among slow-learning students at SMK Negeri 9 Surakarta. The GBL model is developed using a design thinking approach and tested on two slow-learning students. Effectiveness is measured using the Single Ease Question (SEQ), logo design quality analysis, and task completion time. Statistical analysis employs a paired t-test and effect size calculation (Cohen’s d) to assess pedagogical impact. The SEQ results show a significant increase in perceived ease of use following GBL implementation. Student 1’s score increases from 2.4 to 6.1, while Student 2’s score increases from 2.3 to 6.2. These improvements indicate that GBL effectively supports slow-learning students in understanding learning tasks in a more structured and accessible manner. GBL features such as step-by-step interactions, mini-games, and immediate feedback help reduce cognitive barriers, improve focus, and strengthen students’ confidence in completing visual design assignments. Overall, Articulate Storyline-based GBL demonstrates effectiveness as an inclusive pedagogical approach in DKV learning and shows strong potential for wider implementation in visual-based vocational education.
