Participants of this study consist of six students from eighth grade. They were recruited voluntarily and based on suggestions from the teacher. This study used a qualitative approach with descriptive case study as the research design. The author used observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain the data. In analyzing the data, the author applied a method by Miles and Huberman (1994) which consist of data reduction, data display, conclusions drawing and verification. For the result, the author found that during the learning process, students practiced English actively during the questioning and answering session, and during the presentation session. Both sessions encouraged students to practice English confidently and fluently. However, some challenges encountered by students in practicing English, such as inhibition consist of being shy to speak English, being afraid to make mistakes, being scared of critique, and being confused about what to say. Moreover, restricted learning time and students’ mother tongue were considered as students’ challenges in practicing English as well.

Abstract

One of the requirements of doctoral students is the ability to research and write scientific articles. Even though there has been a lot of research on article writing among doctoral students, it is still limited to using autoethnography designs. This paper reflects on a doctoral student’s experience in writing scientific articles during the intake of doctoral study. The design of this research is to use autoethnography which examines in depth the author's experience when writing articles during his doctoral studies. To collect data, this research uses reflective journals, photographs, and article document progress. Meanwhile, data analysis uses thematic analysis. The author's experience is operationalized by experiences, practices, and interesting episodes in the journey of writing articles presented meaningfully and in-depth. It is expected that this will have implications for becoming an alternative for writing scientific articles during doctoral studies or at other levels. The result of this study showed that dialogic feedback in writing an article promoted open-minded in accepting feedback that creates interactive discussion; stimulated problematizing dialog raises critical thinking in writing a research paper; and dialogic feedback enhances students’ motivation in refining a research article

Abstract

Abstract

This study investigates the utilization of primary source-based instruction by history educators to improve historical literacy among senior high school students within the framework of the Independent Curriculum. The research utilized a qualitative case study approach at a public high school in South Sumatra, incorporating classroom observations, comprehensive interviews, and document analysis, with data evaluated in accordance with the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings indicate that educators organized learning via the phases of planning, implementation, and evaluation, guided by four elements of historical thinking: sourcing, context. However, the implementation of these elements varied across classroom practices. Consistently across classroom practices. Teachers always instructed students to determine the origins of sources and their intended purposes. However, students often struggled with this task due to their limited reading levels, insufficient time, and limited access to physical primary sources. Archival documents, historical photographs, obsolete newspapers, and local artefacts predominantly served as mediated instructional resources influenced by teacher scaffolding, rather than as direct enablers of historical literacy. The research empirically demonstrates that the advancement of historical literacy through primary sources is a negotiated and context-sensitive process influenced by teacher mediation, student readiness, and institutional factors. By demonstrating how the Independent Curriculum alters and constrains historical thinking frameworks, the study theoretically advances the discourse on source-based pedagogy.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the underutilization of the Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Museum as an educational tourism site and a resource for local historical education, despite its substantial collections on the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate, colonialism, and South Sumatran culture. This study aims to clarify the use of the museum as an educational tour, analyze its role as a repository of local historical knowledge, and identify challenges and opportunities for its improvement within the context of history education in schools. The study employed a descriptive qualitative methodology, using data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman framework. The findings reveal that the SMB II Museum has implemented educational tours through guided tours, cultural workshops, and thematic exhibitions that provide contextual learning experiences for students. Nonetheless, the museum's usage has been subpar due to insufficient facilities, a lack of innovative collection display, limited engagement from schools, and poor communication between the museum and educational institutions. These findings highlight the imperative of modernizing educational media, improving collaboration between museums and schools, and securing local government support to ensure the museum functions effectively as a center for local history education.

Abstract

This research is entitled "Development of Augmented Reality (AR) Based Flipbook on the Material of Palembang Darussalam Sultanate Heritage in SMA Negeri 10 Palembang." The purpose of this research is to develop AR-based Flipbook learning media that is valid, practical, and able to increase students' motivation and understanding in learning history. The type of research used is research and development (Research and Development) with the Alessi & Trollip model which includes the planning, design, and development stages. The assessment of the validity of AR Flipbook was obtained through expert validation results, namely material experts of 4.6 (very valid) and media experts of 4.6 (very valid). Furthermore, in the trial stage (beta test), the teacher's response reached 100% with a very practical category, while the response of class X.3 students as many as 37 people obtained a percentage of 94% (very practical), and class X.5 as many as 35 people obtained a percentage of 93.5% (very practical). Overall, the response rate reached an average of 93.9%, categorized as very practical. These results indicate that the AR-based Flipbook developed is valid, practical, and suitable for use as a history learning medium. This medium is able to attract student interest and facilitate understanding of the legacy of the Palembang Darussalam Sultanate.

Abstract

The limited innovation of learning media in studying local history with increasingly advanced technological developments has not been fully conveyed, materials such as the Palembang War of 1819-1821 are still little studied so that innovative teaching materials are needed that are in accordance with technological developments and the needs of students. This study aims to develop Cosmic media in Heyzine-based history learning that is valid, interesting and practical. This study uses the Alessi & Trollip development model which was implemented in class XI F1 MAN 1 Ogan Ilir. The validation results of this study show a value from media experts of 4.57, and a value from material experts of 4.69, both of which are included in the very valid category. The level of practicality of Cosmic can be seen from the value of educator responses which show a value of 97.3% and the value of student responses reaching 89.94% which when recapitulated can reach a value of 90.22% with a very good category. Thus, it can be concluded that the Heyzine-based Cosmic product with the material of the Palembang War of 1819-1821 is suitable for use as a learning medium, especially for learning history.
