Abstract

Modern life is characterized by increasing activity pressures, productivity demands, and a fast-paced pace, resulting in increasingly neglected spaces for pause and rest. This situation raises the need to revisit the concept of hiatus as an essential part of maintaining a Muslim's physical, mental, and spiritual balance. This article aims to examine the concept of hiatus in the hadith through a thematic approach (maudhu'i) to authentic hadiths related to rest, self-reflection, i'tikaf, 'uzlah, and time management. The selected hadiths are grouped by theme and analyzed through their historical context and spiritual values. The results show that according to the hadith, hiatus is not simply a cessation of activity, but rather a practice of spiritual awareness that serves to awaken self-clarity, strengthen the relationship with God, and balance the physical-spiritual rhythm. Its application is evident in traditions such as i'tikaf, voluntary sleep, reading, and directed solitude. The study also found that uncontrolled hiatus has the potential to lead to laziness, neglect of responsibilities, and social alienation. This finding implies that the concept of hiatus in the hadith can be used as a basis for developing self-management and spiritual health for modern Muslims.

Abstract

The concepts of paradise and hell constitute the Qur'an's comprehensive system of divine reward and punishment, serving not only as descriptions of the afterlife but also as ethical mechanisms that shape human conduct. Despite extensive studies on Qur'anic eschatology, the relationship between paradise, hell, and human deeds as an integrated reward system remains insufficiently explored. This study aims to examine the Qur'anic reward system through a thematic analysis of paradise, hell, and their correspondence with human deeds. Employing a qualitative library research design, the study applies the Structured Thematic Analysis (STA) method, integrating thematic Qur'anic interpretation with systematic coding procedures adapted from Grounded Theory. The primary data consist of Qur'anic verses concerning paradise, hell, faith, and righteous deeds, supported by classical and contemporary Qur'anic commentaries. The findings demonstrate that the Qur'an constructs a hierarchical and proportional reward system grounded in divine justice. Paradise is portrayed through progressive levels of reward encompassing sensory, psychological, social, and transcendental dimensions, culminating in the vision of Allah (ru'yat Allāh), while hell presents graduated forms of punishment corresponding to varying degrees of disbelief, injustice, and sinful behavior across physical, psychological, and metaphysical dimensions. The analysis further reveals that reward and punishment operate at both individual and collective levels, reinforcing moral accountability within personal and social life. This study contributes to Qur'anic studies by conceptualizing the Qur'anic reward system as an integrated ethical framework linking faith, righteous deeds, divine justice, and eschatological accountability, thereby providing a comprehensive perspective for contemporary Islamic education and da'wah.

Abstract

This study aims to construct a Qur'anic conceptual model of egoism through a structural thematic analysis integrated with grounded theory coding procedures. Method: Employing a qualitative library research approach, this study analyzed twenty Qur'anic verses related to egoism selected through purposive thematic sampling. Data analysis followed three grounded theory coding stages: open coding to identify fundamental concepts, axial coding to establish thematic relationships between categories, and selective coding to integrate all categories into a unified conceptual model. Findings: The analysis identified five major categories constituting the structure of Qur'anic egoism: nafs management and self-discipline, social ethics and philanthropy, transformation from miserliness (bukhul), purification of the soul from arrogance (kibr), and existential orientation toward the hereafter. All categories converge under tawhid spirituality as the integrative core, distinguishing this model from secular Western paradigms that treat egoism as a neutral psychological drive. Recommendations: Future research is encouraged to develop empirical instruments and validate this conceptual model across educational, counseling, and Islamic psychotherapy settings.

Abstract

This study focuses on developing a conceptual model related to empathy and human response management to negative treatment, based on the Quran. The method used is a qualitative literature-based research approach with a structured thematic interpretation, combined with a coding process from foundational theories, including open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The verses selected as samples were chosen using a purposive thematic sampling method from 19 Quranic verses related to emotional control, forgiveness ability, proportional justice, and positive responses between individuals. The findings of this study result in an integrated framework called the Qur'anic Empathic Response Model (MREQ), consisting of three main conceptual areas. First, internal psychological regulation that emphasizes emotional control and psychological resilience. Second, ethical responses in interpersonal interactions that apply transformative conflict management strategies through the act of responding to wrongdoing with goodness. Third, socio-altruistic expansion that enhances an individual's empathetic capacity into a universal awareness of human solidarity. This model is realistically bound by the principle of proportional justice, while the Quran clearly emphasizes the importance of patience and the ethics of forgiveness as the highest moral choice. The main conclusion of this study shows that unlike Western secular psychology, which interprets empathy as a passive emotional reaction, the Quran views empathy as an active theological obligation that can be applied and transformed in breaking the cycle of social aggression. This model offers a new theoretical contribution to the field of Islamic psychology and conflict resolution in the modern era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the criteria of leadership in the perspective of Qur'an through a thematic interpretation approach. The background of this research is based on the importance of leadership in social life as well as the emergence of moral crises, injustice, and abuse of power in modern leadership. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research design. The data were obtained from Qur’anic verses related to leadership and analyzed using the thematic interpretation (maudhu’i) method through the stages of collecting, classifying, interpreting, and analyzing the verses according to the discussed theme. The results of the study indicate that leadership in the Qur’an is a trust and moral responsibility that must be carried out based on Islamic values. The criteria of Qur’anic leadership include trustworthiness, justice, wisdom, strength and reliability, knowledge and competence, prioritizing deliberation, and becoming a role model in goodness. In addition, a leader is also required to be humble, maintain moral integrity, and prioritize the welfare of society in carrying out leadership responsibilities. This study concludes that the concept of leadership in the Qur’an is not merely oriented toward power, but also toward service, social responsibility, and moral development of society. Therefore, the values of Qur’anic leadership are highly relevant in modern life as guidelines for building leadership that is just, humane, and responsible.

Abstract

This research discusses the application of Grounded Theory by Kathy Charmaz in the study of education based on hadith, focusing on the roles of parents, teachers, and the community. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores how the educational values in hadith are implemented within the community at Masjid At-Taqwa, Kampung Sukarela, Pulo Panjang Village, Serang Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and observations, revealing that the synergy among these three elements is crucial for creating a conducive learning environment. Parents serve as the primary educators instilling religious and moral values, while teachers act as facilitators who ease the learning process. The community supports education by fostering a learning culture and providing assistance to families. Findings indicate that active involvement from all parties can enhance educational quality and raise awareness of the importance of knowledge in daily life. This research aims to provide new insights into the application of educational values in a local context and encourage the community to be more active in seeking knowledge, thus producing individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also morally upright.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the religious practices of the Pasir Putih Village community, Pulo Panjang, especially in the context of the construction of the pier which only began with a prayer reading by a sheikh, without any thanksgiving or joint prayer after the construction was completed. This phenomenon is interesting to study because after the construction was completed, an incident occurred that disturbed the safety of residents, especially children, which gave rise to the assumption of spiritual negligence of the community towards the value of gratitude and blessings of the place. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive approach with field methods and literature studies, and is analyzed through the perspective of the Prophetic hadiths which explain the importance of being grateful for Allah's blessings and maintaining the blessings of the place. Among the hadiths that are the basis is the saying of the Prophet Muhammad SAW: Lā yasykuru Allāha man lā yasykuru an-nās" which means "Not grateful to Allah, people who are not grateful to humans." (HR. Abu Dawud). This hadith is a basis for assessing the importance of expressing gratitude for the blessings of development, including through prayer, alms, or other spiritual activities. The results of the study indicate that the absence of elements of gratitude after development can have an impact on reducing the spiritual awareness of the community, and has the potential to cause disasters as a form of warning. This study recommends that every construction of public facilities in Muslim communities should not only begin with prayer, but also be closed with a form of gratitude that is in accordance with sharia to maintain the value of blessings and social safety of the environment in Pasir Putih, Pulo Panjang.

Abstract

This study analyzes thematic hadith as an important tool for understanding and applying Islamic teachings across different periods. It employs a historical approach to trace the emergence and development of thematic hadith studies since the classical era of Islam, including the factors that encouraged early Muslim scholars to utilize and develop hadith in thematic forms. This study investigates how thematic hadith can help connect the intellectual heritage of the past with the needs of contemporary society, facilitating a broader understanding of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Furthermore, this research examines contemporary perspectives by identifying the relevance and challenges of thematic hadith in the modern era. Globalization, advancements in information technology, and the increasing complexity of socio-religious issues require innovative approaches in hadith studies. This research explores how thematic hadith can function as a bridge linking the intellectual legacy of the past with present societal needs, enabling a more holistic understanding of the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad in the contemporary context. The findings of this study indicate that thematic hadith holds significant potential to overcome the fragmentation of religious understanding and to provide comprehensive guidance for Muslims. By integrating historical and contemporary analyses, this study argues that thematic hadith is not merely a legacy of the past but also a vital instrument for responding to the dynamics of changing times, ensuring that Islamic teachings remain relevant and applicable.

Abstract

This Thematic hadith studies (mauḍū‘ī) are one of the approaches to understanding hadith by collecting various narrations related to a specific theme and then analyzing them comprehensively, systematically, and in-depth. This method does not only examine the textual aspects of the hadith but also considers its context, meaning, as well as its social and historical relevance. This research aims to explore the definition, development, and historical growth of thematic hadith studies across different periods, in order to understand its existence as a relevant and applicable method of hadith analysis. Using a descriptive qualitative approach based on literature review, the study finds that thematic hadith studies have been implicitly recognized since the early period of Islam, later developed more systematically during the codification era, and gained significant scholarly and academic attention in the modern era. The findings show that this approach offers a more comprehensive, integrative, and contextual understanding of hadith, and provides more appropriate responses to various contemporary Islamic issues in a thematic and relevant manner aligned with the dynamics of the times.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the principles of dialogic ethics in the Qur'an and their relevance to communication practices on social media in the contemporary era. The main focus in-cludes: (1) the principle of information verification (tabayyun) and the prohibition of preju-dice (tajassus); (2) the prohibition of verbal violence in digital spaces, includ-ing ghībah (backbiting), namīmah (slander), and body shaming; (3) the qaulān communication ethics (six types of Qur'anic speech) as a framework for digital interaction; and (4) constructive dialog methods (jadal aḥsan, qaulan layyinan, da‘wah bil ḥikmah) and conflict de-escalation on social media. This research employs a qualitative ap-proach using Structured Thematic Analysis (STA) which adopts Grounded Theory principles, including sensitizing concept, theoretical sampling, open coding, axial coding, selective cod-ing, constant comparative analysis, record, and data saturation. The primary data source is the Qur'anic mushaf, while secondary sources include credible commentaries (al-Misbah, Ibn Kathir, al-Maraghi) and scientific literature. The findings reveal that the Qur'an provides a comprehensive framework for dialogic ethics in the digital era: (1) the obligation of tabayyun as a filter for information before dissemination; (2) the prohibition of various forms of verbal violence such as ghībah, namīmah, tanābudz bil alqāb (calling by bad nick-names), humazah lumazah (scoffer and slanderer), and tajassus; (3) the concept of qaulān consisting of qaulan sadīdan (true speech), qaulan balīghan (effective speech), qaulan layyinan (gentle speech), qaulan karīman (honorable speech), qaulan ma‘rūfan (kind speech), and qaulan maysūran (easy speech) as guidelines for speech quali-ty; and (4) constructive dialog methods including jadal aḥsan (best debate), da‘wah bil ḥikmah (wise invitation), qaulan layyinan, and the principle of repelling evil with good (id-fa‘ billatī hiya aḥsan). This research is expected to contribute to the development of Qur'an-based digital ethics in the context of Islamic da'wah and education in Indonesia.
