Abstract

Self-control is a fundamental moral value in Islam that is strongly reflected in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), yet its discussion is often fragmented and treated merely in a normative manner. This article aims to examine the concept of self-control from the perspective of thematic hadith by analyzing its forms, ethical principles, and implications for individual and social life. This study employs a qualitative approach with library research as its primary method. Data were collected from primary hadith sources through thematic exploration using keywords related to self-control, such as patience, emotional regulation, restraint of desires, and moderation. The collected data were analyzed using classification and content interpretation techniques. The findings indicate that self-control in hadith encompasses several key dimensions, including emotional regulation, control of speech, and behavioral restraint in various contexts. The hadiths of the Prophet (peace be upon him) emphasize self-control as a marker of strong faith and moral maturity, while also establishing ethical boundaries such as the prohibition of excessiveness, uncontrolled anger, and submission to unrestrained desires. In terms of implications, self-control plays a significant role in shaping balanced character, maintaining social harmony, and fostering stable interpersonal relationships. Therefore, the concept of self-control within the framework of thematic hadith represents not only a spiritual and normative teaching but also a relevant ethical guideline for addressing contemporary social challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the function of Friday night recitation at Link. Tegal Wangi Asem Gebog as a representation of the living Qur'an and sunnah integrated into the social and religious life of the village community. The methods used include direct observation of recitation activities and semi-structured interviews with several community members, including recitation leaders, female religious teachers, and local community leaders. This study focuses on two main aspects, namely the interpretation of recitation as the active application of the teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah, and its role in building community life and solidarity in the local community. The approach used in this study is descriptive qualitative through non-participant observation, field data collection, and simple documentation. The findings of the study show that Friday night recitation not only functions as a religious activity, but also as a forum for instilling Qur'anic and Sunnah values, which are evident in the recitation of Yāsīn, tahlil, and moral lectures delivered in a relevant manner. In addition, this activity also serves as a means to strengthen social solidarity through the traditions of gathering, exchanging information, maintaining emotional relationships, and providing support to residents facing difficulties. The conclusion of this study states that Friday night recitations play a crucial role in preserving the religious identity of rural communities and also in strengthening social bonds. This tradition illustrates how religious teachings can live on and shape a harmonious, sustainable local culture that is rich in values of togetherness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the idea of women's emancipation from the perspective of the Qur'an using the thematic approach of the Qur'an and the analysis of Grounded Theory. The background of this research is the emergence of various discussions about the position and role of women in society which are often understood in a limited way without considering the broader understanding of the Qur'an. The approach used in this study is qualitative with a normative-theological approach. The data used came from verses of the Qur'an that were relevant to women's themes, especially those that described the origin of human creation, moral and spiritual responsibilities, and social and economic rights that women have. Data collection is carried out through the identification and classification of related verses, then analyzed using the thematic method of the Qur'an. Data analysis was carried out with a Grounded Theory approach through the stages of open coding, axial coding, and selective coding to find the main concepts contained in the text of the verse. The results of the study show that the idea of women's emancipation in the Qur'an can be understood through three main dimensions, namely ontological equality, moral equality, and social equality. Ontological equality asserts that men and women come from a similar source of creation. Moral equality shows that both have an equal spiritual responsibility and opportunity to reap the rewards of good deeds. On the other hand, social equality can be seen from the Qur'an's recognition of economic rights, legal protection, and women's participation in society. These findings show that the Qur'an provides a strong normative basis for respecting women's dignity as well as acknowledging their role in human life.

Abstract

Business activities in the modern economic landscape are often trapped in a capitalistic paradigm that justifies any means for profit accumulation, triggering various detrimental market distortions. This study aims to reconstruct the concept of business morality and business competition from an Islamic perspective through textual analysis of hadith. Using a qualitative method with a Grounded Theory approach, this study analyzes 16 selected ahkam hadiths from Kutubus Sittah through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding stages. The results found that the construction of Islamic business morality is built upon four integrated main dimensions: (1) Basic Philosophy emphasizing consensualism (antaradin) and economic independence; (2) Elimination of Market Distortion through strict prohibitions on hoarding (ihtikar), price manipulation (najasy), and supply chain intervention; (3) Integrity-Based Professionalism requiring absolute honesty, product transparency, and service excellence; and (4) Divine Accountability placing the business vision on afterlife salvation. This study concludes that business ethics in Islam is not merely a normative rule, but a manifestation of worship combining individual piety and social justice to achieve equitable welfare (falah).

Abstract

Social morality constitutes a fundamental aspect of Islamic teachings and is tightly linked to the level of communal life. From the perspective of the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) hadith, social morality is not merely understood as interpersonal ethics, but as a manifestation of faith embodied in attitudes, behaviors, and social concern. This research intends to explore the classification and application of ethical social values through the lens of the Prophet’s hadith as a basis for establishing a cohesive, civilized, and sustainable society. The research questions address how the Prophet’s hadith views social moral values and how these values can be classified through the thematic hadith method and content analysis. The project engages a qualitative approach using the thematic hadith method (al-ḥadīṡ al-mawḍū‘ī) combined with content analysis based on grounded theory. The research data are derived from hadiths relevant to the theme of social morality sourced from major hadith collections, supported by related scholarly literature. The findings indicate that social moral values in hadith can be classified into three main themes: the theological foundations of social morality, forms of social morality, and their relevance in contemporary life. The discussion emphasizes that social morality has a crucial urgency as an ethical guideline in responding to the challenges of modern life characterized by individualism and the weakening of social solidarity. This study concludes that social moral values in the Prophet’s hadith are applicable, timeless, and essential to be continuously internalized in social life.

Abstract

Destiny (qadar) is one of the pillars of faith that holds a crucial place in Islamic teachings and has a significant influence on human perspectives on life. The concept of destiny is not only related to theological beliefs but also shapes human mental attitudes and behavior in facing various events, such as success, failure, disaster, and death. However, in practice, this understanding of destiny often suffers from errors, both in the form of an attitude of resignation without effort and a tendency to deny the role of Allah SWT's will in human life. This study aims to examine the concept of destiny in human life based on the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The research was conducted using library research and a thematic hadith approach (maudhu'i). This involved collecting and reviewing hadith related to the theme of destiny. These hadith were then analyzed and grouped into several main themes, such as the belief in destiny, the determination of destiny in human life, and the relationship between destiny and human endeavor. The study's findings indicate that the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) provide a balanced understanding of the concept of destiny. Destiny is understood as the definite and comprehensive decree of Allah SWT, yet it does not negate the role of human effort, prayer, and responsibility. Thus, the concept of destiny in Islam directs humans to have strong faith in Allah SWT's will while remaining active in their endeavors in life.

Abstract

The culture of flexing on social media is commonly known as showing off wealth or achievements, which has an impact on society and ethics. This study aims to discuss the culture of flexing from the perspective of hadith. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying a thematic method. The formal research objects are the concept of riya' as minor shirk, the principle of intention in deeds, and the prohibition of takabbur, which have been formulated in accordance with the themes of the hadith. The research material objects are the various motives and forms of flexing behavior that occur in the current era of social media. The results of this study indicate that the themes of the hadith can be formulated in a theoretical framework to address the phenomenon of flexing on social media. The discussion of this research explains that, in the view of the hadith, the motive for flexing is often to obtain validation and praise from other people. The various forms of flexing range from showing off wealth, lifestyle, and other achievements. The impact of this behavior in the hadith is that the deeds become futile and become an obstacle to entering heaven because of arrogance. This study formulates solutions in the form of alternative digital ethics, including the virtue of doing good deeds in secret, humility, and maintaining sincerity. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that the cultural phenomenon of flexing can become a positive ethic if it prioritizes right intentions and awareness in activities in the era of social media

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of manaqiban recitation in Kampung Asem Tarikolot, Serang Regency, Banten, as a form of living hadith practice within the religious life of the community. The manaqiban tradition is practiced routinely and continuously; however, it does not originate from textual awareness of the Prophet’s hadith. The community understands manaqiban as a religious practice whose benefits are directly experienced, such as inner tranquility, perceived blessings in life, and the strengthening of social relations among congregants. This research employs a qualitative method with a field research approach through observation and interviews and is analyzed using the living hadith perspective and a structural-functional approach. The findings indicate that hadith values such as consistency in religious practice (istiqamah), reliance upon God (tawakkul), and solidarity among fellow believers are alive and internalized in the practice of manaqiban, even though they are not explicitly recognized by the community as deriving from the Prophet’s hadith. This study affirms that hadith exists not only as a normative text but also as living values that are interpreted and practiced within local Muslim religious traditions

Abstract

This study aims to examine the values of business integrity embedded in the hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as an ethical foundation for Islamic economic practices. The academic problem addressed arises from the persistence of unethical business behaviors that contradict principles of honesty, justice, and moral responsibility, despite the availability of strong normative Islamic sources. This research employs a qualitative method using a library research approach, with data collected through thematic analysis of hadiths related to business activities and examined using content analysis techniques. The findings reveal that the Prophetic hadiths explicitly and implicitly emphasize core values of business integrity, including honesty in transactions, trustworthiness, fairness, transparency, and strict prohibitions against fraud and manipulation. These values function not only as moral guidelines but also as practical principles for fostering trust and ensuring business sustainability. The discussion highlights that integrating hadith-based integrity values into contemporary economic practices offers an ethical solution to modern business challenges and reinforces the relevance of hadith studies in the development of Islamic business ethics
