Abstract

In the last ten years, the government of Indonesia aggressively built multiple hospitals in the underdeveloped, borders, and islands regions and regions with health problems to tackle the lack of healthcare service in those regions. These hospitals are run by three types of healthcare workers i.e., government employees, contract employees, and honorary employees. Regardless of their type of employment, all healthcare workers are required to adhere to the standard of care and are expected to perform their best at their jobs. However, the different career path among these three types of healthcare workers often impacts their job performance. This study aims to ascertain the impact of career path strategy on healthcare performance and explain the factors influencing their performance. This study is an analytic quantitative study with a cross-sectional design conducted at Palmatak Regional Hospital, Kepulauan Anambas Regency. The population of this study is all healthcare workers in Palmatak Regional Hospital, amounting to 140 healthcare workers, and all population included as sample (total sampling). The data in this study was collected using a questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been tested. This study finds that work hours, training, career development, and promotion significantly affected healthcare workers' performance (p<0.05). Amongst them, career development (OR=35.51) and training (OR=55.37) are the most influential factors in healthcare workers' job performance. This study suggested that career path, especially the presence of training and career development, positively impact healthcare workers' performance. This study also encourages hospital management to regularly hold training and encourage their workers to develop themselves. Keywords: Career path, healthcare workers, performance, hospital.

Abstract

In the National Health Insurance (JKN) era, hospitals in Indonesia rapidly grew in number and also developed.  In order to stand out amongst the competition, hospitals often rely on marketing strategies through attractive advertisements, offering unique services, and also introducing their services to the public. One method often utilized in the 5P marketing mix consists of product, price, place, promotion, and people. This study aims to identify the impact of 5P marketing mix strategies on the patients’ interest in visiting Bandung Hospital in the city of Medan. Bandung Hospital in Medan conducted this quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. This study involved 150 patients of Bandung Hospital’s inpatient unit, which is the whole outpatient clinic patient (total sampling) during the May 2023 period. Analysis was carried out using frequency distribution, chi-square, and binomial logistic regression analysis. This study found that the majority of patients visiting Bandung Hospital belong to the 30-39 years age group (62.0%), are female (58.7%), hold a bachelor's degree (48.0%), and are visiting Bandung Hospital for the first time (62.7%). Most of the patients in this study have a good perception toward all aspects of 5P marketing strategies in Bandung Hospital and are interested in visiting the hospital again in the future (p<0.05), with place playing the biggest role in influencing patients’ interest (OR = 4.082). According to all findings in this study, it can be concluded that marketing strategies such as the 5P marketing mix strategy positively influence patients’ interest in visiting Bandung Hospital. It can also be inferred that this strategy would work in similar types of hospitals, not only in Bandung Hospital. Keywords: Marketing mix, Hospital, Product-Price-Place-Promotion-People (5P), Patients

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) complaints are often experienced by informal sector workers, including laundry workers, due to non-ergonomic work activities. This study evaluates the factors associated with MSD complaints among the Medan Selayang Sub-district laundry workers. The research design used a cross-sectional approach with 68 laundry workers as samples selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test and multiple logistic regression to identify significant risk factors. The results showed that age (p=0.000), gender (p=0.045), tenure (p=0.002), and length of service (p=0.000) had a significant association with MSD complaints, while body mass index (BMI) showed no significant association (p=0.822). Multivariate analysis identified length of work as the most influential factor in MSD complaints with an Exp(B) value of 198.113. Recommendations include implementing occupational health and safety programs focused on high-risk workers, counseling on ergonomics, and setting policies related to work duration. These efforts are expected to reduce MSD complaints and improve the welfare of laundry workers.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is one of the musculoskeletal disorders as a result of incorrect ergonomics. The impact caused by low back pain is bad posture, stiffness, pinched nerve, and muscle weakness. This study aims to determine the relationship between ages, years of service, length of sitting, work posture, and the chair’s ergonomics with complaints of low back pain in tailors at Pasar Petisah, Kota Medan, with 35 workers based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research tools are interviews, observations, and filling out questionnaires. This sampling technique is used purposive sampling methods. Data were analyzed using the STATCAL application with a 5% chi-square test. Based on the result, we concluded that there is a long relationship between ages (p=0,02), years of service (p=0,04), length of sitting (p=0,01), and work posture (p=0,03) with the occurrence of low back pain tailors. Tailors in the Petisah Market in Medan City are at risk for complaints of low back pain based on age, long years of service, a risky length of sitting, and a risky work posture. If the workers ignore low back pain, the impact is the emergence of serious problems such as stiffness in the spine, fractures, pinched nerves, and can even cause death.
