Abstract

Red jungle chicken populations in various countries in Asia tend to decrease due to hunting and habitat degradation.  However, the most important threat to the population of red jungle fowl is the occurrence of crossbreeding naturally, between red jungle fowl with domestic chickens that are not caged.  The purpose of this study was to determine the population of red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) located in the Forest Area of Tonusu Village, Pamona Pusalemba District, Poso Regency.  This study uses a survey method which is done by direct observation in the field to get a general picture of the population density of red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus).  Determine the point of observation by adjusting the hours of activity Red jungle fowl (Gallus gallus) with 4 observation points.  Observations were made in the morning at 05.00 - 10.00 WITA and continued in the afternoon at 15.00 - 18.00 WITA at the designated point by repeating 5 times.  The results of the study of the population of the Red Forest Chicken (Gallus gallus) in the village area of Tonusu, were divided into four observation points namely I, II, III and IV points and obtained a total of 11 red jungle fowls consisting of 7 male tails, 2 female tails, and 2  chicken tails.  The average density of the four point counts is 0.04 head / ha.  The differences in each observation point are due to several things that can affect the development of the life of red jungle fowl, especially supporting climatic conditions, feed components, water, protectors, as well as changes in environmental conditions caused by human activities such as illegal logging (illegal logging and  forest conversion) and ongoing poaching activities. Keywords ;  Red Forest Chicken population, Tonusu Village

Abstract

Candlenut plant (Aleurites moluccana Willd.) Is a multiple-purpose tree species. This plant is often found growing in various places in the Sigimpu region, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. The planting of candlenut trees has long been carried out by farmers in Sigimpu Village, both on land and village land. Various parties have promoted this activity with the aim of improving farmer welfare, environmental sustainability, and guaranteeing wood supply. This study aims to determine the condition of the vegetative stands of candlenut trees in several phases of ages 5, 10, and 15 years in their potential to control surface runoff and erosion. In its implementation, the development of candlenut plants should not only focus on production aspects or economic goals but also must consider environmental aspects, especially for the sake of controlling surface runoff and erosion. The study was conducted for 3 months, namely, from July to December 2018. The study was conducted on community forests, especially on candlenut plants aged 5, 10, and 15 years located in Sigimpu Village, Palolo District, Sigi Regency. The research procedures used were measurements of rainfall and observations of surface runoff and erosion. Surface runoff and erosion can be suppressed by using candlenut plants as vegetative soil conservation patterns. The smallest surface runoff occurred in 15-year-old candlenut plants at 87.675 liters and 5 years old at 598.297 liters, while controls (without candlenut plants) amounted to 1,245.321 liters The smallest erosion occurred in 15-year-old candlenut plants at 56.629 grams and high the age of 15 years is 132.274 grams, while the control (without candlenut plants) is 219.652 grams.

Abstract

Lore Lindu National Park is one of the conservation areas that has the potential for forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) forage. This study aims to identify the types of food sources for forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) and calculate the Importance Value Index (IVI) of plant species. The research was carried out for 2 months, namely from September to October 2020, in the Lore Lindu National Park, in the area of Kamarora B Village, Nokilalaki District, Sigi Regency. Field data collection was carried out by conducting a vegetation inventory using the method of multiple plots which were placed intentionally (purposive sampling) as many as 30 plots. The analysis used in this research is vegetation analysis. The results showed that the total number of plant species was 575 individuals consisting of 84 types of plants with 59 families. The number of potential food sources for forest honey bees (Apis dorsata) is 50 species consisting of 42 families or 42% of the total number of plants obtained. The results of the calculation of the highest Importance Value Index (IVI) are owned by the level of enau (Arenga pinnata) trees, namely 47.20%, the level of cacao plants (Theobroma cacao) with 65.17%, the level of saplings is cassava (Manihot esculenta) 45.66% then the level of seedlings and understorey is enau (Arenga pinnata) 51.97%.Keywords: Potential forage, Forest Honey Bees, Lore Lindu National Park
