Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Hello English app in improving the English listening skills of ninth-grade students at Subulussalam Junior High School. Using Coats' (2005) model in two research cycles, this classroom action research involved 23 students. The impetus for this research arose from the challenges students continuously faced when trying to understand spoken English. These challenges include fast audio speed, unfamiliar vocabulary, and difficulty concentrating during listening activities. Quantitative data collected during the study showed a significant improvement in students' listening scores, with the average score increasing significantly from 45.1 before the intervention to 83.4 afterward. This improvement can be attributed to students' increased familiarity with the interactive features of the Hello English app. These features include repetition options, feedback, audio level adjustment, and engaging gamified learning elements. Qualitative data from interviews with students and teachers highlight a significant increase in students' engagement levels, motivation, and self-confidence from using the app. The findings of this study indicate that the Hello English app effectively improves listening skills. This is achieved by promoting active and independent learning, which aligns with metacognitive strategies and gamification principles. By fostering a sense of independence and creating a student-centered learning environment, this study concludes that integrating digital applications in language teaching not only addresses common listening challenges but also supports the objectives of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum.

Abstract

This study aims to identify vocabulary learning strategy used, analysis repetition strategy implementation, examine effectiveness on vocabulary retention, and formulate an adaptive model for local contexts. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected from one primary and three supporting informants through interviews, observations, document analysis, and stimulated recall sessions. Analysis revealed that the primary informant developed a sophisticated multi – modal repetition system with four techniques; temporal spacing, multi – modal reinforcement, contextual variation, and self- testing. Developments factors included prior learning experiences, parental influence, teacher methodology, and assessment patterns. Thematic analysis yielded five themes: systematic organization, multimodal implementation, metacognitive awareness, contextual influences, and strategy evolution. This research strategies gaps in literature by examining vocabulary learning in rural coastal schools, adaption of repetition strategies to local contexts, and integration of traditional strategies with innovative elements under limited technological resources. Findings contribute to developing more inclusive vocabulary learning models for diverse educational contexts in Indonesia.

Abstract

Long beans (Vigna sinensis L.)  require sufficient nutrients for their growth. To increase nutrients, fertilization needs to be carried out using either chemical fertilizers or organic fertilizers. Bokashi is an organic fertilizer that can be applied to agricultural land. Research on the analysis of vegetative growth of Vigna sinensis L due to bokashi and NPK fertilizer treatments has been conducted with the aim of analyzing the effect of bokashi, NPK fertilizer, and the interaction of the two treatments on the vegetative growth of Vigna sinensis L. In this study, a completely randomized design with 2 factors was used. Long bean  growth parameter including number of leaves, leaf length, leaf width and stem length were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results of the study showed that there was an increase in the number of leaves, stem length and leaf length but there was no increase in leaf width after bokashi treatment. NPK fertilizer treatment can increase all growth parameters, The interaction between bokashi and NPK fertilizer did not have a significant effect on the growth parameters of  Vigna sinensis L. Farmers are recommended to use 16 tons of bokashi for 1 hectare of agricultural land combined with 1.5 g of NPK fertilizer for 1 long bean.
