Abstract

Abstract: This study explores teachers' perceptions of secondary school principal leadership practices in Indonesia, examining how transformational, instructional, distributive, and servant leadership dimensions integrate in daily practice. The research identifies specific leadership behaviors perceived as most significant by teachers and analyzes their impact on teacher well-being, motivation, and professional commitment in Indonesian secondary education contexts. The study employed a descriptive phenomenological design with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with one experienced secondary school teacher using purposive sampling. Analysis utilized Braun and Clarke's six-phase thematic analysis approach, with ATLAS.ti version 23 software facilitates systematic coding and pattern visualization. Four major themes emerged: (1) Personal Care and Attention, reflecting servant leadership through regular evaluation and crisis support; (2) Authority Delegation and Trust, demonstrating distributive leadership with structured guidance; (3) Teacher Professional Development, through weekly dissemination programs and classroom observation; and (4) Transformational Leadership, involving meaningful vision formulation, participation and multichannel communication. However, bidirectional collaborative learning between principals and teachers showed limitations. This study provides the first empirical evidence of multi-dimensional leadership integration in Indonesian secondary school contexts, advancing knowledge by demonstrating how Western leadership theories adapt within non-Western cultural frameworks. It introduces teachers' voices as a primary data source, offering insider perspectives often neglected in leadership studies and revealing authentic distributive leadership implementation challenges within hierarchical cultures. Findings inform principal training program development and educational policy formulation regarding competency standards and performance evaluation systems in Indonesian secondary education. Keywords: educational leadership, transformational leadership, instructional leadership, distributive leadership, servant leadership

Abstract

Abstract: One crucial aspect of digital leadership is the professional development of teachers through Professional Learning Community (PLC). However, literature exploring the relationship between digital leadership and PLC remains limited. This study aims to analyze research trends and developments in digital leadership and its implications for teachers' professional development using bibliometric analysis. Literature data were collected from the Scopus database for the period 2020–2024 using a Boolean Search query with keywords related to digital leadership and PLC. After filtering, 3,487 articles from various countries were selected. The analysis was conducted using VOSviewer software to identify research patterns and term network mapping. The visualization results reveal four major clusters in digital leadership research: (1) school leadership and teacher professional development, (2) experimental research and mental health in education, (3) community-based learning and qualitative research, and (4) digital transformation and transformational leadership. These findings indicate that digital leadership not only supports teacher professional development but also relates to mental well-being, innovation in community-based learning, and organizational adaptation to digital transformation. This study contributes by identifying research gaps in digital leadership and PLC and providing future research directions to explore technology-driven leadership strategies to enhance teacher professional development. Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to map the intellectual landscape, thematic development, and research gaps in collaborative educational supervision through a bibliometric review of Scopus-indexed literature. Collaborative supervision has increasingly been discussed as an alternative to traditional hierarchical supervision because it emphasizes dialogue, shared responsibility, reflective inquiry, and professional learning. However, the development of this topic remains conceptually fragmented and has not been sufficiently mapped as a coherent field of educational research. This study employed a bibliometric analysis integrated with a narrative literature review. Data were collected from the Scopus database using the keywords “collaborative supervision” and “education” in the title, abstract, and keyword fields. After applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, 27 relevant documents published between 2000 and 2024 were analyzed. Bibliometric mapping was conducted using VOSviewer and Bibliometrix to examine publication trends, institutional and geographical contributions, keyword co-occurrence, and thematic structures, while the narrative review was used to interpret the conceptual and practical meanings of the most relevant studies. The findings show that scholarly attention to collaborative supervision has grown gradually since the early 2000s, with stronger development after the 2010s and publication peaks in 2003, 2015, and 2024. The United States appears as the most productive country, while institutional contributions remain dispersed, indicating that no single academic center dominates this field. Keyword analysis reveals several thematic clusters, including health professions education, clinical and fieldwork supervision, collaborative learning, teacher development, and professional identity formation. These findings indicate that collaborative supervision is an interdisciplinary concept applied across teacher education, higher education, social work, medical education, and allied health training. Nevertheless, the field still faces challenges related to inconsistent definitions, limited empirical validation, and underrepresentation of Global South contexts. The study concludes that collaborative supervision has strong potential to support professional development and sustainable educational improvement, but future research should develop clearer theoretical frameworks, expand comparative and longitudinal studies, and explore digital or hybrid supervision models. Abstract

Abstract: This phenomenological study explored teacher perceptions of Islamic leadership values implementation in Islamic-based secondary schools (MTS) during management reform. Research involved ten teachers from three MTS in Pandeglang, Banten, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews (60-90 minutes) and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis with ATLAS.ti software. The study examined five key dimensions: exemplary leadership (qudwah hasanah), interpersonal relations (ukhuwah Islamiyah), participatory decision-making (shura), management reform effectiveness, and teacher competency development. Findings reveal that teachers perceive Islamic leadership as a holistic integration of spiritual and operational dimensions. Notably, management reform synergizes with Islamic values when implemented gradually with cultural sensitivity, enhancing both operational efficiency and spiritual purposes (dakwah and tarbiyah). Teacher development integrates formal training with mentoring and peer support, fostering simultaneous professional competency and spiritual growth. This study provides empirical evidence from teacher perspectives—frontline implementers—demonstrating that modern management innovation and Islamic principles can effectively align in educational practice. Abstract

This study aims to design a new strategy to accelerate educational equity through local government. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, it adopted data triangulation through document review, and in-depth semi-structured interviews with education office practitioners and education planning experts, which is selected purposively. The study lasted 79 days and used a thematic analysis to describe the data. The results: (1) Indonesian national education policy has long set principles for school siting to ensure accessibility; however, local governments still lack standardized procedural guidance for assessing and determining new school locations, resulting in implementation absurdities. (2) A new strategy to address educational inequity was formulated into 3 alternatives: (a) Establishing a local education policy as a standard operating procedure (SOP) for determining new school locations; (b) Multi-actor collaboration among local government, academics, and the community; (c) Creating a location selector application to assess the feasibility of proposed new school sites. The third alternative is special urgency, and it is the most prominent practical implication, because it offers substantial benefits for addressing educational inequity. Although focused on Subang Regency, the study is globally relevant given persistent educational inequity and structural constraints in many countries. Further research is recommended to develop the location selector application.
