Abstract

Abstract

Student engagement in junior high school, particularly among Grades VII and VIII students, remains limited due to conventional teaching practices. This study examines the effectiveness of gamified sociocollaborative learning in enhancing cognitive, affective, and behavioral engagement. Using a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design, qualitative data from interviews and observations informed a quantitative survey of 72 students in Pasaman Regency. Thematic and regression analyses show that integrating gamification elements with collaborative activities significantly increases student motivation, interaction, and active learning, with the strongest impact on cognitive engagement. The study concludes that gamified sociocollaborative learning is an effective and innovative approach to improving student engagement at the junior high school level.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out what are the main factors that cause double certificates in land dispute cases and to find out the legal consequences of double certificates and know the settlement mechanism in the perspective of civil law. This research uses a normative juridical approach method, which is a legal research method that relies on the study of applicable legal norms supported by a case approach to see how the court applies legal norms in practice. From this research the author draws the following conclusions: First, that broadly speaking the factors causing the existence of multiple certificates can be categorized into 3 aspects, namely the first technical aspect, which relates to the mapping system and land documentation. Second, administrative aspects such as errors in collecting and processing physical and juridical data by the BPN. Third, social factors/aspects, which are related to low public understanding of land rights and land registration procedures. Second, disputes due to multiple certificates can be resolved through litigation and non-litigation channels. Litigation is conducted through a lawsuit in court, while non-litigation can be in the form of mediation, arbitration, or settlement through the Land Office.

Abstract

This study analyzed the phenomenon of code mixing in the realm of Indonesian digital media, particularly in podcast content on YouTube. The study focused on the use of code mixing by Deddy Corbuzier, a prominent YouTuber and podcast host, in one episode of the “Close the Door” segment featuring Cinta Laura Kiehl. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the data were obtained through careful transcription of the conversation and systematic identification of code-mixing instances. The analysis was conducted by referring to Suwito’s (1985) theory of code-mixing form classification and Hoffman’s (1991) theory of motives. The results indicate that there are 110 instances of code mixing, with clause forms (39%) and word forms (35%) being the most dominant types. Meanwhile, the primary motive for code-mixing usage is expressing group identity (56%), followed by discussing particular topics (19%). These findings reveal that code mixing in Deddy Corbuzier’s podcast functions not only as a pragmatic communication tool but also as a sociolinguistic strategy to build closeness with young audiences (Gen Z and millennials) who are multilingual, as well as to assert a modern and global identity within contemporary digital media discourse

Abstract

Abstract

Persistent disengagement in primary Social Studies frequently occurs when instruction is weakly connected to pupils’ lived cultural experiences. This study examined the effect of a culturally contextualized pedagogy grounded in Mandar culture on fifth-grade students’ interest and achievement in Social Studies. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was implemented in two public primary schools over eight weeks. Data were collected using a Likert-type interest scale, curriculum-aligned achievement tests, classroom observations, and implementation fidelity checklists. Descriptive statistics, assumption tests, independent-samples t tests, and multivariate analysis of variance with alpha set at 0.05 were employed. Compared with the control class, the experimental class showed substantially greater gains in both interest and achievement, and posttest differences between groups were statistically significant. These findings indicate that systematically embedding Mandar cultural elements such as Kalindaqdaq and Sayyang Pattu’du within inquiry-based and collaborative learning meaningfully strengthens student engagement and learning outcomes. The study concludes that integrating local culture into primary Social Studies is an effective strategy for improving both affective and cognitive learning indicators and offers a transferable model for culturally responsive curriculum design.

Abstract

Classroom silence is a pervasive phenomenon in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning contexts, yet it remains insufficiently understood within mainstream language pedagogy. Classroom silence has long been perceived as a sign of disengagement or lack of competence in English language learning contexts. However, recent perspectives in applied linguistics suggest that silence may carry complex pedagogical, cognitive, and sociocultural meanings. This study aims to explore the forms, functions, and underlying meanings of classroom silence in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning environments. Employing a qualitative research design with a case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with students and teachers, and reflective field notes.

Abstract

Sexual violence in higher education remains a persistent structural problem that cannot be effectively mitigated through legal and bureaucratic mechanisms alone, especially in contexts where cultural and institutional norms inhibit reporting and accountability. This study aims to examine how members of an academic community construct and negotiate the meaning of social sanctions as preventive instruments against sexual violence on campus. Employing a sequential explanatory mixed-method design at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, the research first conducted semi-structured qualitative interviews with students, faculty, and university leaders to explore shared understandings, moral reasoning, and perceived barriers surrounding social sanctions. These themes then informed the development of a quantitative survey, which was administered to a broader sample and analyzed using non-parametric statistical techniques. The findings reveal a strong consensus that social sanctions function as effective normative controls when they are applied consistently, transparently, and in ways perceived as procedurally just and morally legitimate by the campus community. Quantitative results further demonstrate significant positive associations between perceptions of consistent sanctioning by faculty and institutional leaders and the overall acceptance of social sanctions as a legitimate preventive mechanism. These results suggest that institutional integrity, value-based education, and participatory community engagement are critical for sustaining effective prevention of sexual violence. The novelty of this research lies in foregrounding socially constructed sanctions—rather than legalistic responses—as the central analytic lens in a Global South university context using a mixed-method approach. The study contributes conceptually and practically by offering an empirically grounded framework to guide universities and policymakers in designing community-based, value-driven strategies to prevent sexual violence on campus.
