Abstract

One of the obstacles in Asian redtail catfish hatchery is the high cannibalism incidence. Cannibalism is associated with aggressive behavior caused by hormonal metabolism especially of testosterone. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of testosterone administration on the cannibalism incidence in the Asian redtail catfish juveniles.  The experiment was conducted by rearing fish with initial length of 4.09±0.19 cm in 16 of 20 L aquariums with a density of 2 fish L-1. The experiment was designed with a completely randomized design with 4 treatments which were different level of 17α-methyltestosterone supplementation in feed, i.e., 0 mg kg-1 feed (A) as control, 7.5 mg kg-1 feed (B), 15 mg kg-1 feed (C), and 30 mg kg-1 feed (D). Each treatment has 4 replications. Fish fed experimental diet (40% protein) 4 times a day to satiation for 30 days. The parameters observed were type and index of cannibalism, aggressive behavior, survival rate, normal mortality, growth performance, hormones concentrations (estradiol, testosterone, and cortisol), and water quality. The results showed that cannibalism type II (the fish eaten completely or missing) and cannibalism index increased with the increasing doses of testosterone administration in the feed with the highest cannibalism incidence was 40.63%. The highest survival rate was found in treatment B (73.75±2.50%) and was not significantly different from the control treatment (69.38±2.39%). No differences in testosterone concentration and in the growth performance among the treatments.  However, there was a trend of decrease in the estradiol concentration of Asian redtail catfish juveniles fed ration supplemented with the increasing doses of 17α-methyltestosterone. Based on the results obtained in this research, estradiol changed in the body's plasma, it appears that there was a role for plasma estradiol concentration in controlling cannibalism of Asian redtail catfish juveniles. It concluded that the testosterone administration affected the cannibalism incidence in the Asian redtail Catfish.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of NSP enzyme and organic chromium supplementation in low-protein Colosoma macropomum diet to increase carbohydrate utilization. The diets contains isoprotein (20%) and isoenergy. Factorial design with two factors, namely NSP enzyme (0 and 1 g/kg) and organic chromium (0, 1, and 2 mg/kg). Fish are reared in an aquarium measuring 80 x 50 x 35 cm3 and containing 75 L of water and stock at the density of 15 fish and reared for 60 days. The test parameters used are postprandial blood glucose levels, antioxidant activity, glycogen in muscle and liver, and growth performance. The results showed that the highest postprandial blood glucose levels were when the NSP enzyme was administered. Furthermore, the lowest malondialdehyde (MDA) values and the highest superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxide (GPx) values were obtained in fish fed feed containing 1 g/kg of NSP enzyme and 1 mg/kg organic chromium. Fish fed feed containing 1 g/kg NSP enzyme and 1 mg/kg organic chromium showed significant values in liver and muscle glycogen as well as growth performance compared to other treatments. From this research, it can be concluded that supplementation of NSP enzyme and organic chromium at doses of 1 g and 1 mg per kg of feed produces the best growth performance and anti-oxidant capacity in pomfret fish. Keywords: antioxidant, glycogen, growth performance, postprandial blood glucose ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas suplementasi enzim NSP dan kromium organik pada pakan ikan bawal Colosoma macropomum rendah protein untuk meningkatkan pemanfaatan karbohidrat. Pakan yang digunakan mengandung iso protein (20%) dan isoenergi. Rancangan faktorial dengan dua faktor yakni enzim NSP (0 dan 1 g/kg) dan kromium organik (0, 1, dan 2 mg/kg). Ikan bawal dipelihara dalam akuarium dengan ukuran 80 x 50 x 35 cm3 dan berisi air 75 L diisi 15 ekor ikan dan dipelihara selama 60 hari. Adapun parameter uji yang digunakan adalah pengukuran kadar glukosa darah postprandial, aktivitas antioksidan, glikogen, dan kinerja pertumbuhan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar glukosa darah postprandial tertinggi pada pemberian enzim NSP. Selanjutnya nilai malondialdehyde (MDA) terendah dan superoxide dismutase (SOD) dan glutathione peroxide (GPx) tertinggi didapat pada ikan yang diberi pakan mengandung pada 1 g/kg enzim NSP dan 1 mg/kg kromium organik. Ikan yang diberi pakan yang mengandung 1 g/kg enzim NSP dan 1 mg/kg kromium organik menunjukkan nilai signifikan pada glikogen hati dan otot serta kinerja pertumbuhan dibanding perlakuan lainnya. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulakan bahwa suplementasi enzyme NSP dan Kromium organik pada dosis 1 g dan 1 mg per kg pakan menghasilkan kinerja pertumbuhan dan kapasitas antioksidan terbaik pada ikan bawal. Abstract

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the quality of rotifer enriched with four  kinds of enrichement materials from the stand point of essensial fatty acids. Rotifer was enriched at 24 - 25oC for 18 hours at a density of 1000 ind/ml.  Rotifers were treated by four kinds of enrichment materials such as oleic acid (R-OA), two different density of Nannochloropsis oculata, (4x107 and 16x107 cell/ml; R-N18 and R-N42) two different levels of eicosapentaenoic acids (EPA) triglyceride type (EPA-TAG) (20 and 40 ml/ml; R-E20, R-E40) and two different level of EPA ethyl ester (EPA-EE) (R-EE25 and R-EE50%) respectively. Rotifers enriched with Nannochloropsis oculata and EPA-EE type have a similar profile of essensial fatty acid especially on n3-HUFA that dominated by EPA, while DHA was in a trace amount or not detected.  In addition Nannochloropsis oculata as an enrichment material showed the highest population density of rotifers during enrichment periods.  Rotifer enriched with EPA-TAG has a more complete of essential fatty acid profile compared to other enrichment materials due to their contained both of EPA and DHA. We conclude that rotifer enriched with EPA-TAG as enrichment material showed the best nutritional quality of rotifers from the stand point of essential fatty acid. Key words :  Rotifers, enrichment, eicosapentaenoic acid, docosaheksaenoic acid,  n3-HUFA   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui profil asam lemak rotifera yang diperkaya dengan berbagai macam jenis dan dosis pengkaya. Rotifera dengan kepadatan 1000 ind./ml diperkaya dengan bebagai bahan pengkaya seperti asam oleat (R-OA); Nannochloropsis oculata dengan kepadatan 4x107 dan 16x107 sel/ml (R-N18 dan R-N42); eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) tipe triglicerida (EPA-TAG)  dengan dosis 20 dan 40 μl (R-E20 dan R-E40) dan EPA tipe ethyl esther (EPA-EE)  dengan dosis 25 dan 50 μl per liter (R-EE25 and R-EE50%). Rotifera diperkaya selama 18 jam pada suhu 24-25oC. Rotifera yang diperkaya dengan Nannochloropsis oculata serta EPA-EE memiliki kesamaan profil asam lemak terutama pada incorporasi EPA, sedangkan DHA terkandung pada jumlah yang kecil atau tidak terdeteksi.  Adapun rotifera yang diperkaya dengan EPA-TAG memiliki profil asam lemak yang lebih lengkap terutama ditinjau dari kandunga EPA dan docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) nya.  Selanjutnya rotifera yang diperkaya dengan Nannochloropsis oculata memiliki populasi yang tertinggi dibanding perlakuan lainnya. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pengkayaan dengan EPA-TAG memiliki kualitas rotifera yang terbaik ditinjau dari sisi kelengkapan kandungan asam lemaknya. Abstract

This experiment was conducted to ditermined phosphorus content in the feed of giant gouramy (Osprhonemus gouramy). Four semipurified diet containing isoprotein (41,0%) and isoenergy (10.0 kcal/g protein) but different in phosphorus content were prepared. Diet containing phosphorus at the level of 0,32, 0,63, 0,89 and 1,06% respectively. Fish weighing 21-25 g/ind was stocked at a density of 4 ind./aquarium. Fish was fed at a satiation level three times daily. Fish were reared for 40 days and sampling was done in every 10 day. Result of this study shows that growth performance of fish were increase with the increasing of phosphorus level in the diet till of level (0,89%). Make up of rate phosphor more than 1,06% in the diet will negating the growth. It can be concluded that giant gouramy require phosporus at the level of 0,63-0,89% for maximal growth. Key words : Phosphor, giant gouramy, Osphronemus goruamy, mineral   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menentukan kebutuhan ikan gurame (Osphronemus gouramy) akan mineral fosfor. Pakan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pakan semimumi dengan kadar protein 41,0% dan rasio energi- protein 10 kkal/g protein. Pakan yang digunakan memiliki kandungan fosfor berturut-turut sebesar 0,32, 0,63, 0,89 dan 1,06%. Ikan gurame yang digunakan berbobot awal antara 21-25 g/ekor dan panjang tubuh awal 8,97-13,45 cm/ekor, dipelihara pada akuarium berukuran 50x40x35 cm dengan kepadatan 4 ekor/akuarium. Ikan diberi pakan 3 kali sehari secara satiation selama 40 hari. Setiap 10 hari sekali dilakukan penimbangan bobot tubuh ikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa performan pertumbuhan ikan gurame meningkat dengan meningkatknya kadar fosfor dalam makanan sampai pada tingkat 0,89%. Peningkatan kadar fosfor diatas tingkat tersebut berdampak negatif terhadap pertumbuhan. Pertumbuhan maksimal didapat pada ikan yang diberi pakan dengan kadar fosfor 0,63-1,06%. Abstract

This experiment was conducted to improve the protein retention through carbohydrate efficiency in the chromium diet of common carp Cyprinus carpio. Four experimental diets with isonitrogen and isocaloric but different Cr+3 level 0,00; 1,33; 2,23 and 3,96 ppm were used in this experiment. Fish with body weight of 5,31 ± 0,02 gram were reared in aquaria (50 x 40 x 35 cm); 20 fish per aquarium. Fish fed upon the experimental diets three times daily, at satiation for 50 days. Results of this experiment showed that the protein retention could be improved by given Cr+3 in the diet. Based on the respon curve of protein retention (Yi = -1.1678X2 + 3,7223X + 24,818 ; R2 = 0,9) it was found that the optimum Cr*J in the diet was 1,59 ppm. The maximum relative growth rate was found at 2,16 ppm Cr3+ (Y2 = -14,592 X: + 63,18IX + 426,43 ; R = 0,9). The feed efficiency and the survival rate of the fish are the same between treatment (p>0.05). The protein level of the fish from treatment 3,96 ppm Cr+3 was lower than the others; the lipid level of Cr+3 diets was higher than that of non Cr+3 diet; however the carbohydrate level of fish from diet 2,23 Cr+3 was lower than the others. It was concluded that the optimum level of Cr +3 in the diet of common carp was 1,59-2,16 ppm Key words : dietary chromium, common carp, Cyprinus carpio   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan retensi protein dan pertumbuhan ikan mas Cyprinus carpio melalui peningkatan efisiensi karbohidrat pakan yang diberi kromium (Cr"3). Empat macam pakan dengan kadar Cr+3 yang berbeda yaitu 0,00; 1,33; 2,23 dan 3,96 ppm tetapi kadar protein dan energi yang sama digunakan pada penelitian ini. Ikan mas berbobot 5,31 ± 0,02 gram per ekor dipelihara dalam akuarium (50x40x35 cm) dengan kepadatan 20 ekor. Ikan diberi pakan tiga kali sehari secara at satiation. Pemberian pakan dilakukan selama 50 hari. Hasil penelitian memperlihatkan bahwa adanya pemberian Cr+3 dalam pakan akan mengefisienkan penggunaan karbohidrat pakan sehingga retensi protein akan meningkat pula. Retensi protein tertinggi dicapai pada kadar Cr+3 1,59 ppm (dihitung dari persamaan y, = -1,1678X2 + 3,7223X + 24,818; R2 = 0,9). Pertumbuhan relatif tertinggi dicapai pada kadar Cr+3 2,16 ppm (dihitung dari y2 = -14,592 X2 + 63.181X + 426,43; R2 = 0,9); sedangkan efiseinsi pakan dan tingkat kelangsungan hidup antar perlakuan sama (p>0,05). Kadar protein tubuh perlakuan 3,96 ppm Cr+3 relatif lebih rendah dari perlakuan lainnya. Kadar lemak tubuh ikan yang diberi Cr+3 lebih tinggi dari yang tidak diberi Cr+3; sedangkan kadar karbohidrat tubuh terendah pada perlakuan 2,23 ppm Cr+3. Secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulkan bahwa kadar Cr+3 optimum dalam pakan ikan adalah 1,59-2,16 ppm. Kata kunci : Kromium pakan. ikan mas, Cyprinus carpio

Abstract

Humpback grouper, Cromileptes altivelis is susceptible to low quality of environmental condition so that it is vulnerable to bacterial infection.  One of the methods to solve this problem is improvement of nutrition by using immune response present in fish body.  Supplementation of immunostimulant in the diet may increase immune response of humpback grouper regarding to unsuitable environment condition and bacterial infection.  Humpback grouper in average weight of 24.6 ± 0.05 g were reared in a density of 10 fish per aquarium for 34 days.  Diet was supplemented with 4 g yeast per kg diet (diet A), 0.1 g vitamin C per kg diet (diet B), 2.5 g β-glucan (diet C), chromium-yeast 0,015 g/kg diet (diet D) and no supplementation (diet E) as control. Blood performance was analyzed after challenging test with Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The result of study indicated that immunostimulant supplementation increased leucocytes population during salinity stress test. Supplementation of chromium-yeast in the diet increased resistant of humpback grouper to Vibrio parahaemolyticus infection. Keywords: immunostimulant, humpback grouper, Cromileptes altivelis   ABSTRAK Ikan kerapu bebek, Cromileptes altivelis sangat rentan dengan kondisi lingkungan yang buruk sehingga mudah terinfeksi bakteri. Salah satu cara untuk mengatasi masalah tersebut adalah perbaikan nutrisi dengan memanfaatkan respon imun yang terdapat pada tubuh ikan. Penambahan bahan-bahan imunostimulan pada formulasi pakan buatan diharapkan dapat meningkatkan respon imunitas ikan kerapu bebek terhadap lingkungan yang tidak mendukung dan infeksi bakteri. Ikan kerapu bebek dengan bobot rata-rata 24,6 ± 0,05 g dipelihara dengan kepadatan 10 ekor/akuarium selama 34 hari. Pakan yang diberikan berupa pelet dengan tambahan beberapa bahan imunostimulan yaitu 4 g/kg ragi komersial (pakan A), 0,1 g/kg vitamin C (pakan B), 2,5 g/kg β-glukan (pakan C), kromium-yeast 0,015 g/kg (pakan D) dan tanpa penambahan bahan (pakan E) sebagai pembanding. Gambaran darah dianalisis setelah dilakukan uji tantang dengan Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan bahan-bahan imunostimulan tersebut ternyata mampu meningkatkan populasi leukosit selama uji stres salinitas. Pemberian kromium-yeast dalam pakan meningkatkan daya tahan ikan kerapu bebek terhadap serangan Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Kata kunci: immunostimulan, kerapu bebek, Cromileptes altivelis

Abstract

Nutrient content of natural food is one of the main factors for determining the successful of marine fish fry production.  EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid) and DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid) are two essential fatty acids for marine fish larvae.   Low levels of EPA and DHA content in natural food is major problem in marine fish larval production.  Rotifers fed by Nannochloropsis contained EPA about 0.94%-1.46% and DHA was limited, while in Artemia was 0.27%-0.39% EPA and DHA was undetected (Suprayudi et al., 2002a).  Feeding on supplemented Artemia with EPA 28G and DHA 70G in ratio of 1:1 could not significantly improved its survival rate and larval development time, while growth by length and carapas width at first crab were higher  than  that of fed with unenriched Artemia. Keywords: EPA, DHA, Artemia, swimming crab, Portunus pelagicus   ABSTRAK Kandungan nutrisi dalam pakan alami merupakan salah satu faktor utama yang menentukan keberhasilan produksi benih spesies akuatik laut.  EPA (asam ekosapentanat) dan DHA (asam dokosaheksanat) merupakan 2 asam lemak esensil bagi larva ikan laut.  Kandungan EPA dan DHA yang rendah pada pakan alami merupakan masalah utama dalam produksi larva ikan laut.  Rotifer yang diberi pakan Nannochloropsis mengandung EPA 0,94%-1,46% dan DHA dengan jumlah yang sangat kecil, sementara Artemia EPA mengandung 0,27%-0,39% dan DHA tidak terdeteksi (Suprayudi et al., 2002a). Pemberian Artemia yang diperkaya dengan EPA 28G dan DHA 70G dengan perbandingan 1:1 tidak memberikan hasil yang signifikan pada tingkat kelangsungan hidup dan waktu perkembangan larva rajungan, sementara pertumbuhan panjang dan lebar karapas lebih baik pada crab 1 dibandingkan dengan yang diberi Artemia tidak diperkaya. Abstract

The extending of protein and energy of the Swimming crab should be on certain limit that could be give maximum growth. The objective of this research are to determine of the protein level and optimum energy ratio of protein (C/P) at rajungan (Portunus pelagicus). The Crab-5 (C-5) stage used in the experiment, maintained in the topless (volume of 2 liters), with density of 1 crab/glass. There were seven of the experimental diets namely A (protein of 30%; C/P of 8 kkal), B (30%; 9.5), C (35%; 8), D (35%; 9.5), E (40%; 8), F (40%; 9.5) and G (45%; 8) with extending of food are 5 time of daily. Complete randomize design with 2 of factor and 3 of replication use in the experiment. The results of this experiment showed that interaction of the protein level and the energy ratio of protein is influence to the growth rate of daily and retention of lipid. Abstract

Aquaculture activity including culture of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) is now facing on high price of feed.  Feed cost can reach more than 50% of production cost so that increase in feed price decreases in farmer benefit. Toward increasing in benefit, it needs efficiency on production cost.  This can be achieved by using a diet containing suitable protein and protein-energy ratio for the need of fish cultured.  Diet containing different protein levels (28% and 31%) and protein-energy ratios (8 and 10), and a commercial feed as a control were compared to determine protein content and protein-energy ratio suitable for common carp fingerlings.  The results showed that food efficiency was differed among the treatments, while relative growth rate was similar.  Diet containing protein of 31.15% with protein-energy ratio of 7.81, and protein of 28.08% with protein-energy ratio of 9.12 were resulting higher food efficiency compared to that of diet containing 31.15% protein with 7.81 protein-energy ratio and 28.27% protein with 8.28 protein-energy ratio. Keywords: common carp, Cyprinus carpio, protein-energy ratio, food efficiency   ABSTRAK Kegiatan budidaya ikan termasuk ikan mas (Cyprinus carpio) saat ini dihadapkan pada kenyataan mahalnya harga pakan buatan. Kebutuhan biaya pakan dalam proses produksi mencapai lebih dari 50% sehingga menurunkan tingkat keuntungannya. Untuk meningkatkan keuntungan, diperlukan efisiensi biaya produksi yang salah satunya dengan memproduksi pakan yang mengandung kadar protein dan rasio protein terhadap energi pakan  yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan ikan. Pakan dengan kadar protein (28 and 31%) dan rasio protein-energi (8 dan 10) yang berbeda diuji untuk mengetahui kandungan protein dan rasio protein-energi yang sesuai untuk fingerling ikan mas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fingerling ikan mas yang yang diberi pakan dengan kadar protein dan rasio protein energi yang berbeda menghasilkan tingkat efisiensi pakan yang berbeda, namun tidak mempengaruhi tingkat pertumbuhan relatifnya. Pakan dengan kadar protein 31,15% dengan rasio protein energi 7,81 dan kadar protein 28,08% dengan rasio protein energi 9,12 menghasilkan nilai efisiensi pakan yang lebih baik daripada pakan yang mengandung kadar protein 31,15% dengan rasio protein energi 7,81 dan kadar protein 28,27% dengan rasio protein energi 8,28.
