Abstract

One of the reasons Papua is prone to conflict is because it cannot be separated from the return of Papua to Indonesia. Injustices such as access to education, health and infrastructure are also very limited so that they feel marginalized and cause tensions between the government and local communities. This event resulted in the emergence of separatist movements such as the Free Papua Organization (OPM). Conflicts and social problems in Papua have influenced the social image of Papuans, namely the negative stigma. The media is needed to help raise public awareness about human rights violations, give a voice to victims, and educate the public about issues in the region. The media can be a link between Papuans and the outside world, increasing international support for their rights. The survey results show that the media, especially social media, has a major influence in shaping public awareness about the OPM and human rights in Papua. However, there is an urgent need to improve the quality of reporting, provide more in-depth information, and emphasize educational aspects related to the roots of the conflict and more holistic solutions. Thus, the media can play a more strategic role in creating balanced and constructive awareness among the public

Abstract

Background: One of the main complications of diabetes is diabetic foot ulcer (DFU), which often requires intensive care and involves collaboration between various disciplines. In managing diabetic foot ulcers, several ethical dilemmas arise regarding autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice. This review of the literature aims to examine ethical dilemmas in the care of diabetic wounds. Methods: A literature review was conducted to analyze articles published over the last five years (2019–2024). The analysis involved a detailed review of healthcare workers' ethical dilemmas, particularly nurses, in managing diabetic wounds. Results: Nurses are crucial in addressing ethical dilemmas in diabetic wound care. They must have a comprehensive knowledge of diabetic wounds, including their pathophysiology, complications, and treatment options. Nurses must also have strong decision-making skills, allowing them to analyze situations, weigh various factors, and make appropriate decisions. Furthermore, they must maintain effective relationships with patients and their families. Conclusion: Ethical dilemmas in wound care present complex and multidimensional challenges. Nurses must possess adequate knowledge, skills, and support to navigate these situations effectively. By doing so, they can provide high-quality, dignified care to patients while protecting their well-being.

Abstract

Background: Children living with stunting face unique challenges influenced by social and cultural factors. Social stigmas arising from traditional cultures, norms, and beliefs exacerbate families' access to health services and negatively impact children's mental and emotional well-being. This literature review aims to identify factors related to social and cultural stigma affecting children with stunting within communities. Methods: This study employed a literature review design, utilizing a selection and evaluation process guided by the PRISMA protocol and checklist. The inclusion criteria included articles discussing the impact of socio-cultural stigma on stunting, qualitative or quantitative studies published between 2016 and 2024, and articles written in English or Indonesian with full access. The exclusion criteria comprised non-relevant articles focused solely on medical aspects without an association to stigma and literature presented only as general reviews without empirical data. Results: Social, cultural, and economic factors, including poverty, low parental education levels, and gender role disparities, contribute to the prevalence of stunting among children. The stigma associated with stunting negatively affects children's overall health. These children often experience discrimination and social isolation due to their physical condition, further impacting their mental well-being. Conclusion: Social and cultural stigmas are significantly related to stunting among children in Indonesia. Therefore, culturally sensitive and community-based approaches should be integrated into health services to reduce stigma within communities.

Abstract

Introduction: Work stress is a significant issue in the nursing profession, often linked to adverse mental health outcomes such as anxiety, depression, and decreased quality of life. This study aimed to investigate the relationships between anxiety, depression, quality of life, and work stress among nurses in East Java Province, Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was employed, involving 205 nurses from three cities in Indonesia. Data were collected using standardized instruments: Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) for anxiety, the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) for depression, World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) for quality of life, and the Work Stress Scale (WSS) for work stress. Correlation and multiple regression analyses were used to examine the relationships between the variables. Results: The finding revealed significant correlations between work stress, anxiety (p-value 0.001), and quality of life (p-value 0.001). Higher levels of work stress were associated with increased anxiety and lower quality of life scores. However, no significant association was found between work stress and depression in the regression analysis (p-value 0.101). Anxiety and quality of life were significant predictors of work stress, accounting for 13.4% of the variance. Conclusion: This study's findings support targeted interventions that can reduce anxiety and improve nurses' quality of life. These include mental health workplace programs and hospital organizational changes to foster a positive work culture. Given the limitations of self-reported data, future research should incorporate longitudinal designs and objective measures to understand these relationships better.

Abstract

Background: Infectious diseases, including dengue fever and waterborne infections, remain major public health concerns in Indonesia. Hand hygiene is essential for reducing healthcare-associated infections; however, nursing students often fail to practice it effectively despite having sufficient knowledge. Purpose: The present study evaluated the implementation of hand hygiene among Indonesian nursing students, assessed their adherence to the “Five Moments for Hand Hygiene” during clinical training, and examined the necessity for educational improvements using a hand hygiene checker and ATP swab testing. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among nursing students from three national universities in Indonesia. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey on hand hygiene knowledge and practices, self-reported adherence to the 'Five Moments for Hand Hygiene' during clinical training, and an objective evaluation using a hand hygiene checker and ATP swab testing. Results: The majority of students understood hand hygiene techniques; however, 70% failed to meet the WHO recommended handwashing duration. Over 30% of students found it challenging to perform hand hygiene before patient contact and after touching objects in the patient’s surroundings. The hand hygiene checker revealed residual contamination on the nails and fingertips, while ATP swab testing showed that 60% of students did not meet the standard threshold. Conclusions: Despite their knowledge, nursing students face challenges in implementing the proper hand hygiene practices. Knowledge alone is insufficient; practical education with visual and numerical feedback is essential. Training with hand hygiene checkers and ATP swab testing can improve self-assessment skills and enhance adherence to hand hygiene protocols.

Abstract

Background: Nurses constitute the largest proportion of healthcare human resources globally, accounting for 59% of all healthcare professionals worldwide. Poor sleep quality among nurses can lead to decreased performance, lack of concentration, physical and mental health issues, and a reduced quality of life. Purpose: To determine the impact of occupational health (job dissatisfaction and work-life balance) on poor sleep quality in nurses. Method: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional design with purposive sampling. A total of 38 respondents participated in the study. The research instruments included Microsoft Forms, utilizing the Work-Life Balance (WLB) questionnaire and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality. Results: A total of 92.1% of nurses experienced poor sleep quality, 57.9% WLB was unbalanced, and 76.3% were dissatisfied with their jobs. The results of the bivariate analysis using the chi-square test showed that the p value of WLB was 0.651 and job satisfaction was 0.015*. This indicates that WLB is not related to sleep quality in nurses, while job satisfaction is related to sleep quality in nurses. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between nurses' sleep quality and job satisfaction, but no association with WLB. Suggestion: Strengthening job satisfaction among nurses should be carried out extensively through strategies such as mindfulness-based stress reduction interventions. These efforts aim to enhance job satisfaction and workplace resilience, enabling nurses to provide optimal patient care in healthcare settings.   Keywords: Job Satisfaction; Nurses; Occupational Health; Sleep Quality; Work-Life Balance. Kata Kunci: Kepuasan Kerja; Kesehatan Kerja; Kualitas Tidur; Perawat; Work-Life Balance.

Abstract

Socialization of national defense is an important step to instill national values and patriotism among the younger generation. In order to introduce the importance of defending the state, Kalisat Public High School held the Garda Nusa project on November 23, 2024, aimed at increasing students' awareness of their role in maintaining and defending the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). This project is designed to provide a deeper understanding of national values, as well as to encourage students to actively participate in activities that support the progress of the nation. The method used was a questionnaire distributed before and after the socialization to measure changes in students' understanding and attitudes towards national defense. The research results show a significant increase in students' knowledge and attitudes towards the importance of defending the country. Most students showed readiness to participate in activities that support the integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), both in daily life and in social service. This Garda Nusa project proves that socializing love for the country at the secondary education level can effectively shape the national character of students.

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are long-term illnesses. One of them is hypertension. Risk factors for NCDs include lifestyle, diet, physical activity and genetic factors. Handling NCDs requires special attention, including basic health services that are affordable and easily accessible. Implementation of early detection of PTM has been carried out at the Patrang Community Health Center, but the implementation has not been effective because the implementation process takes too long. The method used is to summarize the flow and bring the early detection post closer to other inspection location elements. The innovation of OVERCOMING noncommunicable diseases with PATRANG is one solution for implementing early detection of non-communicable diseases. The results of community service show that the implementation of early detection with this innovation is effective and there is an increase in patient satisfaction with the NCD detection innovation service.
