Abstract

Direct torque control (DTC) using dual-inverter technique is one of the best topologies for electric vehicle (EV) as it offers abundant selection of voltage vectors to drive the induction machine (IM). This dual-inverter technique also more reassuring as the system still workable even any of its voltage supply is disrupted or the power pack is drained. However, during the uneven voltage supply, the movement of voltage vectors is interrupted and will move obliquely especially in medium voltage vectors. This situation will lead to the faulty movement of the voltage vectors in the default sector definitions and lead to huge flux droop, which later could impose to distort phase current. This paper proposes an optimal sector definition based on the preset voltage ratio between the two inverters. The voltage vectors can be mapped tangentially to the flux vector, minimizing the flux droop and improving the phase current waveform when the proposed sector is utilized. The effectiveness of the proposed sector is tested using MATLAB/Simulink software and the exact parameter from the induction machine.

Abstract

In recent years, cryptocurrency technology has become an attractive area for investment due to its transparency, independence, and non-transactional nature. Many analysts and researchers talk daily on social media about the future of various cryptocurrencies. These ideas can significantly impact whether or not people are willing to invest. This paper provides a framework to help traders learn about the opinions of influential people and organizations in the field. Over the course of six months, the sentiment of more than 90 significant Twitter users was extracted for the proposed framework. In this study, we used the Vader open-source tool for sentiment analysis. This paper provides an excellent opportunity for investment through sentiment analysis of lesser-known or emerging cryptocurrencies. Also in this paper, we introduce the user importance factor to calculate the value of each tweet based on the number of retweets and comments. This factor shows the importance of their opinions instead of considering the number of followers of the authors. This factor causes a lower coefficient to be assigned to an author's opinion if it decreases in importance over time. The results show that in the short and long term, users' opinions are very effective in the market for cryptocurrencies and in predicting its price  trend.

Abstract

Worldwide, lung cancer is the major cause of death and rapidly spreads. Lung tissue that is benign does not grow significantly, but lung tissue that is malignant grows rapidly and attacks the body, posing a grave threat to one's health. This paper provides a literature review of computer-aided detection (CAD) systems for lung cancer diagnosis. Preprocessing, segmentation, detection, and classification are the stages of the CAD system. This review divides the preprocessing into three stages: image smoothing, edge sharpening, and noise removal. Additionally, lung segmentation is divided into three stages: histogram-based thresholding, linked component analysis, and lung extraction. The detecting phase aids in decreasing the workload. Several techniques are briefly described, including random forest, naïve bayes, k-nearest neighbor (k-NN), support vector machine (SVM), and convolutional neural network (CNN). Classification is the final stage; the image is then identified as containing or not possessing nodules. The prospect of incorporating CNN-based deep learning techniques into the CAD system is discussed. This paper is superior to other review studies on this topic due to its comprehensive examination of pertinent literature and structured presentation. We hope that our research may help professional researchers and radiologists design more effective CAD systems for lung cancer detection.

Abstract

This paper describes the design of a solar photovoltaic (PV) system using simulation of PVsyst software. This work involves the simulation of bifacial and mono-facial PV solar in a large-scale solar system. For a bifacial system, the yearly total energy to the grid is 1699.6 MWh, with an average of 4.57 kWh/kWp/day. For a mono-facial system, the total energy to the grid over the year is 1645.3 MWh, with an average of 4.05 kWh/kWp/day. The average collection losses obtained for bifacial and mono-facial modules were 0.33 kWh/kWp/day and 0.82 kWh/kWp/day, respectively, with system losses of 0.15 kWh/kWp/day (bifacial) and 0.18 kWh/kWp/day (mono-facial). The average performance ratio for bifacial and mono-facial was 0.904 and 0.801, respectively. The bifacial PV system was able to generate profit in terms of Return on investment (ROI), around 357%, and reach a breakeven around 7 years. The payback period for a mono-facial PV system was around 8.1 years, with an ROI of 290.4%. This work mainly focuses on a comparative analysis of bifacial and mono-facial photovoltaics, emphasizing the effectiveness and the implementation suitability of bifacial photovoltaics over mono-facial PV solar systems.

Abstract

The economic power dispatch (ED) is considered a critical optimization issue in the power system and microgrid. There are several objectives through the economic load dispatch issues such as reducing the operating cost, total emission, or start-up operations. This paper presents a Chameleon swarm algorithm (CSA) for determining the optimal ED of distributed energy resources (DER) in the microgrid. The proposed technique numerically mimics and executes chameleons' behavioral processes to their quest for food, such as their action for rotating their eyes to identify and grab prey using the speed of their sticky tongues. In this study, the CSA has been applied to obtain the optimal power dispatch from DER using the photovoltaic (PV) plants, combined heat power (CHP) systems, and traditional diesel generators. The obtained results from the simulation are compared with the conventional metaheuristic algorithms which have been used in previous studies, such as particle swarm optimization (PSO), genetic algorithm (GA), and artificial bee colony (ABC). Experimentally, the proposed algorithm for solving the ED problem determined the best value of the power dispatch and high performance compared to other metaheuristics methods.

Abstract

Automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is used at each generating station or synchronous generators to maintain voltage supply at steady state or at a constant value otherwise the performance of the generator will be affected. The combination of AVR system with controllers clears fluctuation due to variation in load, speed, temperature, and power factor. This causes deviation in generator’s voltage and damage to power equipment. This work presents performance enhancement of AVR system using Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) with pre-filter control technique. The enhanced performance was achieved by designing a nonlinear model of a synchronous generator, a PID controller and a low pass filter or pre-filter using MATLAB/Simulink model. The introduction of the proposed PID controller with LPF at load variation of 20 seconds, reduces the rise time and the peak time to 5.2975 seconds and 12.31 seconds respectively. This increases the overshoot and the settling time to 4.28 seconds and 17.60 seconds. However, the developed scheme provides a stable time response performance for various desired generator voltages considered. The performance of the proposed scheme was compared with conventional PID controlled AVR system without LPF. The proposed scheme provides more stability as indicated by the percentage overshoot, which is 4.5788% (for PID) and 4.2765% (for PID with prefilter). This has contributed to knowledge an AVR control system with better performance in terms of rise time, peak time, overshoot and settling time for stabilized generator output voltage.

Abstract

The stability analysis is one of the most important elements to describe the performance of AC drive systems under both dynamic and steady-state operating circumstances. This is particularly essential because electric motors operate over a wide range of speeds and utilize complex control systems such as field-oriented control (FOC). This study establishes a small-signal stability analysis (SSSA) in a 1-horsepower vector-controlled Y-connected three-phase induction motor (YCTPIM) drive during an insulated gate bipolar transistor short-circuits failure (IGBT-SCF). In the beginning, a vector control system that is based on the indirect rotor FOC (IRFOC) method is described for post-fault functioning of the YCTPIM while the IGBT-SCF is taking place. After that, a small-signal model of the system that has been provided is explored. This model is based on a voltage-current model, and it is constructed by linearizing the non-linear dynamic equations of the system. During IGBT-SCF, an IRFOC strategy as well as SSSA operations are carried out on the 1-HP, 380 V, and YCTPIM. In this research, both analytical and simulation-based methodologies are applied.

Abstract

Modern electric vehicles (EVs) that drive an induction motor (IM) fed by a traction inverter are fast gaining popularity due to their simple configuration and robustness. The direct torque control (DTC) technique is one of the best control methods to drive the IM, especially in open-end winding configurations, as it offers more voltage vectors. However, the existence of hysteresis controllers and improper switching technique causes larger torque ripples that leads to variable switching frequency. The study will be focused on the open-end winding induction motor where the direct current (DC) power is fed from both sides of the stator windings using the dual inverter configuration. To minimize the torque ripples, a simple switching technique using the duty cycle control method is proposed by injecting a high-frequency square wave into the default inverter switching status to form the new pattern of voltage vectors. The effectiveness of the proposed technique is tested through MATLAB/Simulink software and validated experimentally with a lab-scale setup using a dSPACE controller. The findings show that the proposed method reduces torque ripple by over 50% while keeping the DTC's simple structure.

Abstract

These days, DC-DC boost converters play an essential role in a variety of applications. Therefore, a variety of techniques were proposed in the literature to achieve the highest voltage gain. A large number of passive elements are typically used in high-voltage DC-DC converters. Increasing the order of the system would make modeling and controlling the output voltage of the converter more complex. This paper examines an ultra-lift DC–DC converter using a three-winding inductor and a super-lift construction in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). This converter provides substantial voltage gain by utilizing the three-winding coupling inductor topology without increasing the duty cycle or passive circuit parts. Because the DCM operation mode occurs in the converter, it is necessary to investigate and analyze it. The DCM operation mode of an Ultra-Lift converter is examined in this study, and then simulation results are shown to validate the equations.

Abstract

Multilevel inverters are widely used in high-power and high-voltage applications due to their lower total harmonic distortion (THD), decreased switching stress on their switches, and other benefits. However, increasing the number of steps results in a drop in THD, which results in a larger size. As a result, a new 7-level reduced switched cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI) has been designed for the current project. This architecture employs seven switches and seven levels of MLI to achieve the same output as a conservative multilevel inverter (MLI). To generate gate pulses for the switches, conventional and modified carriers were employed, and a third harmonic component was added into the sine wave to increase the fundamental output voltage. Finally, MATLAB or simulation is utilized to test the results of this task's design. According to the analysis, the proposed design may reduce harmonic distortion and improve the fundamental voltage component with fewer switches.
