Abstract

This research investigates the connection between syllable awareness and pronunciation preferences among Indonesian EFL students. Using a structured online survey, data were gathered from 25 Indonesian EFL students using a quantitative descriptive approach. The instrument comprised syllable-counting tasks, stress awareness questions, and reflective prompts for pronunciation difficulties. The findings show that, although the majority of students have valid syllable recognition in familiar English words, a significant number still miscount syllable counts in more sophisticated structures owing to spelling interference and first language (L1) transfer. Notably, errors frequently occur in words with consonant clusters, which learners typically follow Indonesian phonological rules by adding vowel sounds (epenthesis). The results indicate a significant association between syllable awareness and pronunciation accuracy. Students with higher awareness are more likely to have nativelike pronunciation, but those without this awareness are more likely to make phonological mistakes. This study highlights the teaching value of including explicit syllable instruction and auditory training in EFL classrooms to improve learners' phonological skills and spoken English proficiency.

Abstract

The use of technology-based e-counselling systems has been shown to have a significant impact on improving students' psychological well-being, especially in overcoming problems of academic stress, emotional anxiety, and depression. This study aims to develop and test the effectiveness of an e-counselling system in supporting students' mental health management using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. With a two-group experimental design involving 50 seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Terbanggi Besar, the experimental group was given access to the e-counselling system, while the control group followed conventional counselling services. The results showed that the use of the e-counselling system resulted in a significant decrease in students' psychological symptoms, with the average anxiety score dropping from 6.5 to 2.9, and depression from 5.6 to 2.1. In contrast, the control group showed smaller changes. An independent t-test (t = 57.11; p < 0.05) confirmed that e-counselling was more effective in reducing anxiety and depression, and improving students' emotion regulation skills. In addition, the e-counselling system was shown to provide more flexible, responsive, and safe access to counselling services, with 80% of students feeling more comfortable in disclosing their personal problems through this platform. These findings suggest that technology integration in counselling services can be an innovative solution in improving students' psychological well-being and supporting the creation of an emotionally healthy learning environment.

Abstract

Globalization in the 21st Century era has the opportunity to cause a decline in character. The government tries to strengthen student character through the Pancasila Student Profile. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) based learning can facilitate student’s character. This study aims to describe the implementation of physics learning with STEM and its effect on student learning outcomes and character development. The research design employed was quasi-experimental, and the research sampling technique used was purposive sampling to determine two classes of tenth-grade students of MA Al Anwar Sarang. The experimental class integrated the STEM approach into each learning activity, and the control class used the scientific approach. Student character development was measured using observation sheets, and student learning outcomes were assessed by analyzing pretest and post-test scores. The findings of this study highlight the potential of integrating the STEM approach with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to effectively teach Newton's Laws and develop student character. The medium-level improvement in learning outcomes (gain n = 0.399) and the high percentage of Pancasila student profile character development (81.33%) indicate that STEM-based physics learning supports academic and character-building objectives. These results suggest that optimizing all aspects of STEM integration, from learning tools to activities, is essential for fostering student character development in alignment with the Pancasila student profile. Additionally, implementing STEM-based physics learning sustainably over an extended period is recommended to enhance long-term learning outcomes and character formation

Abstract

Blended Inquiry Learning (BIL), an approach integrating blended and inquiry-based methods, seeks to enhance higher-order thinking skills (HOTS), including analysis, evaluation, and creation. This study explores the impact of BIL by assessing the roles of social, cognitive, instructional, and technological presence. Employing quantitative methods, data were gathered using a 19-item Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed through Partial Least Squares (PLS) Regression, a structural equation modeling technique. Participants included 222 students from various departments enrolled in the Indonesian Language Education course at the University of Lampung. The findings indicate that all four presences significantly influence BIL effectiveness, with technological presence having the most substantial effect and social presence the least. The study further advocates for incorporating technological presence as a fundamental component in the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework to enhance the integration of digital technologies in education. This revised framework enables educators to design learning experiences that align with the demands of the technological era, utilizing tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), computer-based simulations, and virtual collaboration platforms

Abstract

One of the most difficult and exciting forms of academic communication available to students is debate. One of the most challenging communication obstacles students face in their academic endeavors is debate speaking. This study aims to find and investigate the common issues debated by students. The study focuses on numerous important areas, including speaking anxiety, time management, framing arguments, handling counterarguments, improving debate forms, and team coordination inside a debate team. Data collecting and processing for this study used quantitative descriptive approaches. The debate class consists of forty college students registered. Five student interviews plus a prepared questionnaire helped to compile the data. The results show that most students struggle with controlling limited speaking time during debates, have trouble with spontaneous reasoning, and suffer from speaking anxiety. Two other noted major obstacles were inadequate team coordination and a lack of knowledge concerning discussion procedures. To improve students' speaking ability in debate environments, lecturers and debate coaches should offer specialized training programs stressing debate strategy, speaking fluency, and team collaboration techniques. This study clarifies students' speaking challenges and offers reasonable suggestions for strengthening debate education in universities.
