Abstract

UV-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy is a powerful instrument for qualitative investigation and quantitative detection of pollutants in water. UV-Vis spectrophotometry is an analytical method using the concept of transmission of light in UV and Visible wavenumber. Generally, compounds can be identified using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, based on the concept of light absorption, specifically for compounds with a chromophore group and an auxochrome group. Although the utilization of UV-Vis spectrum analysis has been well-documented, no information regarding detailed step-by-step measurement for examining detailed quantitative analysis, particularly in determining the concentration of an analyte in an aqueous solution sample. Here, this study explores the idea and application of UV-Vis technology in water quality detection, including guidelines for determining the concentration of the sample in an aqueous solution. To support the analysis, we also added practical examples for understanding concentration during the organic decomposition. This paper is intended to be useful for researchers and students in understanding UV-Vis spectrophotometry when analyzing chemical composition during chemical decomposition, photocatalysis, phytoremediation, and adsorption analysis.

Abstract

This study examines the design of a heat exchanger (HE) in the production process of nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4) nanoparticles using the coprecipitation method by determining the shell and tube heat exchanger. The Microsoft Excel application is used as a manual calculating machine to facilitate the analysis of heat exchanger (HE) data calculations. The research flowchart starts with a literature study, preparation of tools and materials for design, calculation of the main shell and tube components, and then fabrication. Based on the calculation results, the design specification data for a shell and tube heat exchanger has a shell diameter of 0.032 m, a shell length of 4.267 mm, a thickness of 0.002 m with an initial heat transfer rate (Q) of 460130 W resulting in a heat transfer efficiency of 95.706% and an NTU of 6.165. The high effectiveness value makes the design of the one shell and tube type turbulent flow heat exchanger (HE) considered to have met the standards of high effectiveness and good performance. The design and design process is complete if the device functions properly. This study can be used as a reference for researchers in designing heat exchangers during production to make them more effective, reliable, and economical.

Abstract

Hyaluronic acid (HA), as a food supplement and drug, is a glycosaminoglycan which is a linear polysaccharide formed from covalently bonded disaccharide units. HA is a polysaccharide formed from repeating units of a disaccharide composed of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (GalNAc) and D-glucuronic acid (GlcA) with a high molecular weight of between 105 and 108 Da, which are linked alternately by glycosidic bonds (1→ 3) and link(1→4). This structure allows hyaluronic acid to retain large amounts of water and its pseudoplastic fluid properties make hyaluronic acid widely used in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Sources of hyaluronic acid material can be found from various types of bacteria, land, or marine animals. The purpose of this paper is to present various reviews of hyaluronic acid synthesis methods and determine which method is the most efficient one to do. This review paper contains several research papers from 1934 to 2019 which discuss several methods of hyaluronic acid synthesis including extraction, separation, purification, fermentation, and isolation. Comparison of results shows that the best methods are the repeated batch fermentation and separation because the materials used are quite easy to find and the process is novel yet easy with the high pure products and does not require a long time to obtain HA nanoparticles
