Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) transmission prevention centering on family is an effective strategy to suppress the emergence of new clusters of pulmonary TB transmission. The commitment of family heads and several factors are related to this action. This study was conducted to identify, examine, and analyze the determinants of family commitment in preventing the transmission of pulmonary TB. This study applied a quantitative cross-sectional approach to 170 family heads of pulmonary TB patients using proportionate simple random sampling. The family health promotion model (FHPM) was used to analyze family commitment determinants in preventing TB transmission. Data were collected using a questionnaire. SEM analysis was utilized to determine the paths and the relationship between family function, perception of the disease transmission risk, as well as family support, and commitment to action to prevent TB transmission. This study recorded that 50.6% of respondents were male with an average age of 46.75 ± 46 and an age range of 36-55 years, 53% had a high school education; 25.9% were self-employed; had an average decent living need of 1.93 ± 0.85, 75.3% had nuclear family, and 47.1% were from patriarchal family. Model fit was achieved in the structural equation (Chi-square (χ2) = 173.44; df = 71, RMSEA = 0.072≤ 0.08; GFI = 0.90≥ 0.90; RMR = 0.019≤ 0.05; NFI = 0.98≥ 0.90; CFI = 0.99≥ 0.90; TLI = 0.98≥ 0.95; IFI = 0.99≥ 0.90; PGFI = 0.59; PNFI = 0,76). All dimensions and item scales are significantly related to their respective latent constructs. All factors forming the FHPM framework have a significant positive direct effect between latent variables. Factors from the FHPM framework significantly (family function t = 8.74, perception t = 4.46, and family support t = 7.37) have an influence on commitment to action to prevent pulmonary TB transmission. Family function is the most powerful factor explaining commitment to preventive action. This study reveals the paths and influences of family function, perception, and support on a commitment to prevent pulmonary TB transmission through structural model analysis.

Abstract

Stunting is growth failure in toddlers due to chronic malnutrition and causes children to become short. Stunting is often known as stunting, a state of growth failure in toddlers as indicated by a height-for-age figure of less than -2 (z-score value). Stunting is caused by many aspects, including parenting and nutrition-related eating. The mother's parenting style will determine the toddler's nutritional status. The better the parenting style, the better the nutritional status. The prevalence of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 years in Kuburaya District is 40.3%. This study aimed to determine the profile of stunting in toddlers aged 24-59 months from the perspective of parenting in Kuburaya District. This research is observational with a random case-control design. Data collection was taken in February-March 2023. The number of case samples was 62 mothers with stunted toddlers, and a control sample of 62 mothers with normal nutritional status toddlers. The data collection technique used a parenting eating pattern questionnaire with height and weight measurements. Data analysis techniques using descriptive statistics. The results revealed that stunting in poor parenting was 85.5% while stunting in good parenting was 14.5% in Kuburaya District. The conclusion from this research is that parenting is related to the incidence of stunting in toddlers, so it is necessary to pay attention to the role of the family, especially mothers, to provide good parenting patterns to prevent stunting.

Abstract

Population growth triggers the need for national food to increase, including the need for vegetable crops as a complement to human nutrition. Efforts made by farmers to meet the population’s needs for vegetable crops and a source of income, often have not paid attention to environmental conditions. Beruk Village is one of the villages where the people cultivate vegetables crops on the slopes of the mountains which should be used as a conservation area. This condition certainly requires farmers to always learn and apply appropriate local techniques so as not to harm the surrounding environment. This research aimed to explore the learning process of farmers in obtaining and examining local knowledge in vegetable cultivation. This study used a qualitative approach method with the interactive model analysis techniques of Miles and Huberman. The results showed that local knowledge of local farmers comes from parents/hereditary, local village farmers, and farmers outside the village through oral, experience, trial and error, and observation. The local knowledge includes seeding (garlic, onion, carrot), land processing stages and its frequency, ‘kalenan’ (horizontal drains), ‘kali gondhang’ (vertical drains), ‘plipit’ (the arrangement stones on the edge of ‘larikan’), benefits of spacing, planting time and season, intercropping, benefits of grass in agricultural land, fertilization methods, weeding, thinning, manual irrigation, utilization of agricultural and livestock waste, as well as method, age, and yield of harvest. The local agricultural tools used are hoe, crowbar, ‘ganco’, garden fork, trowel, sickle, bucket, sack, ‘lanjaran’, and its binder from natural material.

Abstract

The Ministry of Agriculture conducted a program to increase the Rice Planting Index (IP) to 400 or commonly known as the IP400 program. One of the factors determining the success of the Rice Planting Index (IP) 400 program is the participation of farmers in following the program, because without active participation from farmers the program will not run smoothly. This study aims to assess the level of farmer participation, examine the factors that shape farmer participation, and analyze the relationship between the factors that shape farmer participation in the Rice 400 Cropping Index (IP) program in Kragan Village. Sampling was conducted using saturated sampling method (census) with a sample size of 30 respondents. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient Test (rs) at the 95% confidence level. The results showed that the planning stage was in the medium category, while the implementation, utilization of results, and valuation stages were in the high category. The relationship between factors shaping farmer participation in the Rice 400 Planting Index (IP) program is that there is a significant relationship between non-formal education, personal experience of farmers in farming, the influence of people who are considered important, and land area with farmer participation in the IP Rice 400 program. Factors shaping farmer participation in the Rice 400 Planting Index (IP) program that do not have a significant relationship are the age of farmers and formal education of farmers.
