Abstract

This study aims to (1) implement the Guided Discovery Learning Model Assisted Video and Interactive Simulation (GDM-VIS) in physics learning on the concept of statistical fluids; (2) identify the relationship between students’ motivation and learning outcomes. This research is a pre-experimental research employing One Shoot Case Study design. The learning model and instruments that have been developed were used in a class of 38 students before the distance learning was applied. The data of learning motivation were obtained through motivation questionnaire, while learning outcome data were obtained by means of a conceptual understanding test instrument. To see whether there is a correlation between students’ motivation and learning outcomes, the Bivariate Pearson analysis with SPSS was used. Based on the results of the analysis, the value obtained based on the value or relationship (R) was 0.613. Furthermore, the coefficient of determination (R Square) was 0.375, meaning that the effect of learning motivation with the application of GDM-VIS toward concept understanding is 37.5%. Based on the Output Coefficients, decision making in a simple regression test, and based on the significance value of the Coefficients table, it was obtained that the significance value was 0.00 0.05, which means that the application of the Guided Discovery Learning Model Assisted with Video and Interactive Simulation affects the students’ concept understanding. This study implies that the learning using simulations with systematic stages can improve the quality of learning.

Abstract

This study aims to develop physics practicum guidelines that can improve students' scientific reasoning. The development of practicum guidelines in this study was based on the principles of the Higher Order Thinking Laboratory (HOT-Lab). Using the ADDIE design, which consists of five stages: analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate, general physics practicum guidelines are developed in three parts, namely pre-practicum, lab, and post-practicum. The participants involved consisted of two groups: five experts and 88 students taking general physics courses. The pre-practicum stage is the part that distinguishes this practicum guideline from conventional practicum guidelines, where students are presented with "real-world problems" and opportunities to make hypotheses. The results showed that the practicum guideline products developed were deemed feasible and effective for developing students' scientific reasoning. This study shows that students' scientific reasoning for using practicum guidelines based on HOT-Lab principles is significantly higher than those who use conventional practicum guidelines. In conclusion, the guideline developed was valid, feasible, and effective in improving students’ scientific reasoning. This study recommends considering the features of the HOT-Lab practicum activities to be used for similar practicum activities in other places or relevant courses.

Abstract

Often, we face difficulties in observing objects in challenging positions. For instance, someone inside a submarine may want to see what lies at the bottom of the sea. One tool based on physics principles that can be employed for this purpose is a kaleidoscope. The formation of images produced by a kaleidoscope can be challenging for those who are unfamiliar with its workings. In a kaleidoscope, multiple reflections occur due to the presence of specific shapes and the number of mirrors used. This research aims to analyze the angles of incident shape and reflected rays in kaleidoscopes with three different shapes, determine the number of images in each kaleidoscope shape, and validate the law of reflection in kaleidoscopes. The process involved using a single object and adjusting the angle, specifically 60˚, 90˚, and 120˚. During the data collection process, it was observed that a 60˚ angle resulted in 5 images (reflections), a 90˚ angle resulted in 3 images (reflections), and a 120˚ angle resulted in 2 images (reflections). The results indicate that as the angle between the mirrors increases, the number of visible or produced images decreases. Conversely, when the distance between flat mirrors is reduced, the number of reflected or produced images increases. The findings on the images in the kaleidoscope are confirmed by the data processing using formulas

Abstract

Some physics material may be difficult to understand, especially the organ pipe material in the vibration and sound chapter. To help students understand organ pipe material, experiments are very important in its delivery. However, teaching aids and accurate data collection are often a challenge for teachers and students. Testing organ pipes on teaching aids with the help of the Phyphox application can be a method for teaching the physics of sound and vibration practically and interactively. This research was conducted to compare the speed of sound propagation in air and water as well as measure the frequency of tones in air columns with different water heights in bottles using the Phypox application. The frequency data obtained shows that the longer the air column, the higher the frequency produced, conversely the shorter the air column, the lower the frequency produced. The calculation results for the speed of air propagation vary between 234 m/s to 622 m/s, with the closest value to a constant air speed of 340 m/s found in the basic notes Do and Re. Therefore, it is concluded that the teaching aids created can be used to increase students' understanding of the concept of organ pipes and the role of the Phyphox application in increasing the accuracy of data collection.
