Abstract

This study examines human resource (HR) planning in non-profit organisations, focusing on mission-driven approaches to address the sector’s unique challenges. Non-profits often operate under budget constraints, face high turnover, and depend heavily on volunteer labour, necessitating HR strategies that move beyond conventional models. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), we analysed 47 peer-reviewed studies published between 2014 and 2024, identified through the Scopus database. A PRISMA-based screening process guided the selection, ensuring transparency and replicability. The synthesis of the literature reveals five key themes: (1) integration of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into HRM, (2) the role of social economy and innovation in public services, (3) welfare-focused leadership, (4) ethical engagement to foster commitment, and (5) volunteer performance management. Quantitative mapping also shows diverse geographic distributions and methodological approaches across the studies. The findings highlight the importance of aligning HRM strategies with organisational values to sustain workforce motivation and maximise social impact. The study contributes by offering a holistic HR planning framework tailored to non-profits, providing both theoretical insights and practical guidance for enhancing sustainability and advancing the sector’s mission.

Abstract

Technological advancements have shifted the process of knowledge acquisition from textbooks and teachers to individuals independently seeking information through other source. Artificial Intelligence (AI), with ChatGPT as a natural language processing tool, has become one of these references. In Islam, the tradition of learning is emphasized through the transmission of knowledge from teachers, known as sanad, rather than through self-study or autodidacticism. This research focuses on the validity of ChatGPT's responses to user questions on the topic of zakat as one of the pillars of Islam. The study employs content analysis of answers obtained from ChatGPT and compares these responses against three primary references: Yusuf Qardawi's "Fiqh al-Zakat," Ahmad Sarwat's "Encyclopedia of Indonesian Fiqh," and the guidelines from the National Zakat Agency. The scores were determined using a 0 to 5 scoring rubric to assess the degree to which ChatGPT’s responses aligned with the primary references. The findings indicate that ChatGPT's understanding of the basic concepts of zakat has a validity score of 3.58 and a completeness score of 3.75. For the dimension of zakat objects, the validity score is 3 and the completeness score is 3.5. However, for the dimension of modern zakat, the validity score drops to 1, with a completeness score of only 0.5. Therefore, the use of ChatGPT as a learning tool for the topic of zakat should be considered a supplementary resource rather than a primary reference. Users of ChatGPT are advised to continue consulting authentic and authoritative references for deeper understanding.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the influence of Islamic production ethics on the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food and beverage sector in Surabaya. Specifically, this study analyzes the moderating role of Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) in strengthening the relationship between Islamic production ethics and MSME growth. A quantitative approach is employed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Data were obtained through a survey of 106 purposively selected MSME owners. The results indicate that Islamic production ethics has a positive and significant impact on MSME growth. Islamic work ethics also shows a direct positive influence on business growth. However, as a moderating variable, Islamic work ethics weakens the positive influence of Islamic production ethics on MSME growth. These findings suggest that among entrepreneurs with a high level of Islamic work ethic, the influence of external ethical systems becomes less dominant because these values have been internalized in their daily work behavior. This research contributes both theoretically and practically to the development of contextual Islamic business ethics.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of human capital, economic freedom, and capital formation on Islamic economic development in the member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Using a quantitative approach with panel data from nine OIC countries over the period 2002–2023, the study employs a multi-method panel regression model, including Pooled OLS, Fixed Effect, Random Effect, PCSE, and System GMM. The Human Development Index (HDI) is used as a proxy for Islamic economic development, while the independent variables include dimensions of human capital (MYS and LE), economic freedom (LABF, MONF, TRAF, INVF, FINF), and capital formation (GCF). The analysis results show that variables such as Life expectancy, Gross capital formation, Monetary freedom, and Financial freedom consistently have a significant positive effect on HDI in most models, while variables such as Trade Freedom, Investment Freedom, and Mean Years of Schooling show inconsistent or insignificant effects. This study highlights the importance of synergy between human investment policies, macroeconomic stability, and the Islamic financial system in fostering sustainable and socially just economic growth in the Islamic world. The policy implications of these findings encourage strengthening the health sector, spiritually oriented education, and inclusive Islamic financial governance to accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in OIC countries.

Abstract

One can interpret the hijra community's economic impact in Indonesia as both beneficial and detrimental. The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the typology of the Indonesian Islamic entrepreneurial movement and the hijrah community movement's compromise model for economic rules. Observations at community business locations, interviews with entrepreneurs in 10 communities, documentation in the form of brochures, photos of activities, and information on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp groups were used in the research, which followed a case study methodology. Three of the 22 informants who were thoroughly questioned were expert informants. The regions of origin of the informants included Java, Sumatra, Bali, NTB, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan. To generate fresh hypotheses, data were examined using theoretical PPIM and Carter and Banker's hijra community typology propositions. The study's findings demonstrate the political conservatism of the hijra community's Islamic economic movement. Specifically, the dominant economic system, the Islamic economic movement, aims to replace conventional or ribawi economics, or is portrayed as such in the dual system notion.

Abstract

This paper investigates the country-specific risks associated with inwardforeign direct investment (FDI) in Indonesia and analyzes the broadermacroeconomic consequences. The study utilizes the AutoregressiveDistributed Lag (ARDL) model to examine both the short-term and long-termcointegration between macroeconomic factors and foreign investmentinflows. The research is based on secondary annual time series data from1984 to 2015. In the short term, the exchange rate has a crucial impact, asdepreciation of the Indonesian Rupiah leads to a higher inflow of FDI.However, while financial variables do not significantly affect the dependentvariable in the long term, independent variables such as inflation, GDPgrowth risk, and economic and political risks do have a considerable effect.Rational foreign investors prioritize maximizing returns on their investmentsby closely monitoring the volatility of macroeconomic conditions. Thus, it isimperative for the government to regulate these aspects to enhance the inflowof foreign investments.

Abstract

Introduction: : The fundamental theory posits that Islamic values encompass all human activities, including work ethics as an essential component of organizational behavior. However, today’s society is facing a decline in work ethics, necessitating readjustment. This study aims to bridge the gap by examining prior research on Islamic work ethics in Indonesia. Methods: A systematic literature review method was used to delve deeper into the development of research topics over the past decade (2014-2023) through a search of Scopus-indexed articles. After a screening process, the final sample, consisting of 38 articles, was processed for further analysis using meta synthesis approach to explore more specific understanding of Islamic work ethics by using Nvivo software. Results: The results showed that Islamic work ethics were affected by three main factors: community patterns, role of Islam, and organizational concept. The relationship between these three factors can encourage positive behavior in the workplace in Indonesia. Conclusion and suggestion: Islamic work ethics in Indonesia are not limited to religious value, but also the culture of the community. Mapping ideas of the three categories of Islamic work ethics in Indonesia can be useful for future empirical research to analyze the relationship among factors in shaping Islamic work ethics in Indonesia. The mapping ideas could also be implemented by organizations in daily business practices.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the relationship between Islamic financial regulation, Islamic financial literacy, and financial inclusion in the ASEAN region. Utilizing articles from three ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei Darussalam—this study employs a Systematic Literature Review methodology. With the growing interest in Islamic finance in ASEAN, a deeper understanding of these three components has become crucial. The research collects and analyzes relevant articles, journals, and reports from 2016 to 2024, employing strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review results indicate that effective Islamic financial regulation contributes to an increase in Islamic financial literacy, which in turn positively impacts the level of financial inclusion in ASEAN countries. Additionally, the study identifies the challenges faced in the implementation of regulations and strategies to enhance financial literacy among the population. These findings provide valuable insights for policymakers and financial practitioners to formulate policies that support the growth of sharia-compliant inclusive finance in ASEAN. The research emphasizes the need for collaboration among stakeholders to maximize the potential of Islamic finance in enhancing the economic welfare of the community.
