Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of integrating concrete media and PhET simulation in fraction learning using a realistic mathematics approach in elementary schools. This study responded to students' difficulties in understanding abstract mathematical concepts, especially in adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design, involving 60 fourth-grade students divided into experimental and control groups. Pretest and posttest were given to both groups. Data were analyzed using paired and independent sample t-tests. The results showed a statistically significant increase in the learning outcomes of the experimental group. After the intervention, the experimental group achieved an average posttest score of 77.47 while the control group scored 40.30. The average difference between the two groups was 37.17 points, with a t value of 15.690 and a p value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings confirm that the integration of concrete and digital media in fraction learning through a realistic mathematics approach significantly improves students' learning outcomes. This multimodal learning strategy effectively addresses common difficulties in fraction learning and offers a promising model for enhancing mathematics instruction at the elementary level.

Abstract

Low reading comprehension among elementary students remains a significant educational challenge in Indonesia, often stemming from passive instructional methods and low student engagement levels. At SDN Sukatani 5, many students faced difficulties in reading fluently and understanding texts, mainly due to teacher-centered and individual-based classroom practices. This situation underscores the urgent need for more engaging, student-centered learning strategies to enhance literacy skills. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) model, which is supported by the StoryWeaver digital platform, in enhancing reading comprehension. Adopting a quantitative experimental design, the research involved 60 fourth-grade students, divided into two cohorts. The experimental cohort received the CIRC-StoryWeaver intervention, while the control cohort was taught utilizing traditional methods. Pre- and post-tests were administered, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and N-Gain scores. The outcomes revealed a significant improvement in the experimental cohort, by a post-test average score of 84.07 and an N-Gain of 60.97% (moderate effect), compared to the control cohort’s score of 79.70 and N-Gain of 49.07% (lower effect). These findings reinforce the relevance of constructivist approaches in literacy instruction and demonstrate the potential of digital tools, such as StoryWeaver, to support active, meaningful, and student-centered learning experiences.

Abstract

Introduction: This study aimed to evaluate nurses' knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) regarding cybersecurity in healthcare settings, focusing on variations across hospitals of different sizes. Cybersecurity is critical in the digitalization of healthcare, yet gaps in awareness and training persist, particularly in developing countries. With increasing cyber threats targeting healthcare institutions globally, this study seeks to address the underexplored role of nurses in safeguarding hospital information systems. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in three government hospitals in Makassar, Indonesia, from [start month/year] to [end month/year]. A total of 331 nurses participated, representing hospitals of varying organizational sizes and bed capacities. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, assessing KAP related to cybersecurity. Ethical approval was obtained from [name of ethics committee], and written informed consent was secured from all participants. Data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics, with significance set at p < 0.05. Results: The study revealed significant gaps in nurses' cybersecurity knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Awareness of hospital cybersecurity policies was low (43.2%), particularly in larger hospitals. Hospital 3, the smallest, exhibited higher awareness (59.0%) compared to Hospital 1 (35.8%) and Hospital 2 (39.6%) (p = 0.03). Risky behaviours, such as using personal devices for sensitive data transfer, were prevalent (77.0%), with the highest incidence in larger hospitals. Statistical analyses confirmed significant variations in cybersecurity KAP based on hospital size and organizational complexity. Conclusion: This study highlights the critical need for targeted cybersecurity training programs, particularly for nursing staff in larger hospitals, through raising awareness of social engineering attacks, email scams, and infection detection. By addressing gaps in awareness and practices, hospitals can enhance data protection and mitigate risks. Future research should explore tailored interventions and organizational factors influencing cybersecurity in healthcare systems to inform global health policies.
