Abstract

Low student motivation and monotonous teaching methods cause integrated thematic learning outcomes to be less than optimal. This study explores the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to improve the learning outcomes of grade V students in integrated thematic learning. This study used a quasi-experimental design involving purposively selected participants who were divided into experimental groups taught using PBL and control groups taught conventionally. Data were collected through pretest, posttest, and observation sheet, then analyzed using comparative statistical techniques. The results showed a significant increase in the average score of the experimental group, from 76.7 to 88.33, as well as increased student engagement in the learning process. The study concluded that the PBL model was effective in improving students' understanding, critical thinking ability, and collaboration skills. The findings confirm the potential of PBL as a student-centered learning strategy capable of encouraging active participation and deeper cognitive engagement. This study recommends the wider application of PBL at the basic education level as an effort to improve the quality of learning and develop 21st century competencies.

Abstract

Students in elementary school are in a crucial phase of development, where they are beginning to be exposed to various types of digital media. In this phase, it is important to introduce learning media that can motivate students to improve their digital literacy skills. One of the learning media is digital storybooks. Digital storybooks have a more attractive appearance when compared to printed storybooks. The purpose of this study is to determine the influence of digital storybooks on the digital literacy of students in elementary schools. The method used in this study is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. The research sample consisted of 90 students in grade IV of elementary school. The experimental group in this study used a digital storybook, while the control group used a printed storybook. The data collection technique uses a test in the form of multiple-choice questions. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis techniques and the Independent Sample t-test test. The results of the hypothesis test using the Independent Sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), meaning that students in the experimental class who were treated using digital storybooks had better digital literacy skills than students in the control class who used printed storybooks. So, it can be concluded that digital storybooks have an effect on the digital literacy of students in elementary school.

Abstract

In the current digital era, libraries must develop digital-based services to remain relevant and meet users' increasing demands for fast and easily accessible information. This study investigates the strategic development of digital services at the Ganesa Library, the challenges encountered, and the measures taken to address them. Employing a qualitative research design with a case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis involving the principal, head of the library, and librarians as key informants. Data validity was ensured through the triangulation of techniques and sources, while data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman. The findings indicated that the digital service development strategy comprised three main stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The planning phase included needs assessment, goal formulation, feasibility analysis, budgeting, and establishing partnerships. During implementation, the library identifies specific digital services to be developed and delegates operational responsibilities. Evaluation was conducted through the identification of challenges and annual performance reviews. Major challenges faced included limited financial resources, shortage of qualified personnel, inadequate IT skills among librarians, and low utilization of existing digital services. To address these issues, the library organized workshops and seminars that promoted teamwork, encouraged effective communication, and adopted flexible budgeting strategies. These strategic efforts aim to enhance the quality and effectiveness of the Ganesa Library’s digital services, ensuring their continued relevance and responsiveness to users’ needs in the digital age.

Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and critical thinking have been incorporated into elementary school Natural and Social Science (IPAS) learning, although this integration is still limited. This study describes the application of ESD principles and examines the development of critical thinking in grade IV IPAS learning. A case study approach with a qualitative method with six grade IV teachers in Moyudan District, Sleman. Collect data through interviews, classroom observations, and document studies, then analyze using Miles and Huberman’s (1984) framework. The results show that ESD integration is limited to the IPAS subject and has not influenced school programs or culture. Students’ critical thinking competencies developed unevenly, with the analysis of information indicator emerging as the most prominent (43.7%), while the reflection on perspectives indicator showed no development. Limited worksheets further constrained students’ independence, making them reliant on teacher guidance. A whole-school strategy, problem-and project-based learning resources, and institutional support are all necessary, according to these findings. In addition to providing educators with helpful advice, the study demonstrates that Indonesian elementary schools continue to favor analytical skills when implementing ESD.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the representation and quality of children’s literature content in Indonesian language textbooks for elementary schools under the Merdeka Curriculum, a national education policy aimed at promoting student-centered learning. With particular attention to genre diversity, developmental appropriateness, and alignment with literacy goals, this research examines the extent to which these textbooks provide meaningful and engaging literary experiences for students. A qualitative content analysis method was employed, focusing on textbooks for Grades I–VI published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2023. This study employs qualitative content analysis of Indonesian language textbooks for elementary schools under the Merdeka Curriculum. Data were collected through document analysis using rubrics, checklists, and BSNP-based indicators. The analysis followed Miles and Huberman’s model, with validation ensured through triangulation and peer discussion. The findings indicate that literary texts are presented in various forms, including prose (fiction and nonfiction) and poetry, with realistic fiction being the most dominant genre across all grades. Lower-grade textbooks primarily feature realistic fiction and fables, while upper-grade textbooks increasingly include nonfiction texts. The alignment between literary content and learning outcomes is reflected in the variety of genres and topics relevant to students’ developmental and social contexts. These results highlight the importance of designing textbooks that not only support language skills but also foster literary appreciation and character development through contextual and meaningful texts. The study's outcomes are expected to contribute to the development of more effective and engaging Indonesian language textbooks, ultimately enhancing the quality of literacy education in Indonesian elementary schools.

Abstract

This research intends to guide teachers in developing self-control in children aged 9-12 through traditional games. The research method used was Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE framework (Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate) involving six teachers, seven module validators, and six children. The research findings are as follows: The module received a "very good" rating with a score of 3.40 from one lecturer and five teachers. The surface and content validity tests received a "very good" rating of 3.50 and 3.55, respectively. 3) The application of the module has a positive effect on the self-control of children aged 9-12 years, with a high level of effectiveness of 88.70%. The research results showed that after using the module, the average posttest score (M = 0.9217) was higher than the pretest score (M = 0.6650). This difference is significant, with a value of tt(5) = 4.122, p = 0.009 (p <0.05). This module also has quite a big influence, with an effect size (r) of 0.88 or the equivalent of around 77.26%. In other words, the module has a fairly large role, contributing 77.26% to increasing self-control. The effectiveness of implementing the module is further proven by the N-gain score of 88.7073%, which shows a high level of effectiveness. Thus, this research provides a strong empirical basis for developing better educational programs, especially in improving self-control in children aged 9-12 through a traditional game approach.
