Abstract

During the Covid 19 pandemic, which required distance or online learning makes learning material difficult for students to understand, especially number material in junior high schools. One of the ways that teachers can use to facilitate students in learning is by taking approaches, one of which is the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. To support online learning where students can study independently with teacher guidance so that learning media is very important. One of the learning media developed is an interactive module based RME. The purpose of this research is to describe how the process of developing interactive modules based on realistic mathematics education on numbers and how the results of developing interactive modules are measured from the aspects of validity, practicality, and effectiveness as an alternative learning media. This study used research and development methods, the model used in this research was ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). The subjects of this study were 15 students in grade 7 junior high school. The test results showed that the module is valid with a percentage of 76,13% valid, from teachers 92,49% practical, from students 86,33% practical, and 88,66% effectiveness. The uniqueness of this interactive module is that it has interactive features such as videos, practice questions, and related learning media. Based on the research conducted, the interactive modules can be said to be a good mathematics learning medium.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the cognitive processes of high school students in terms of their mathematical abilities in solving the Minimum Competency Assessment Numeracy problems related to Geometry and Measurement. Problems were given to three 10th science students with categories of high, medium, and low mathematical ability. Data on the results of the subject's work were analyzed based on the cognitive processes stage, namely the stage of Comprehending linguistic and numerical information in the problem; 2) Translating and transforming that information into mathematical notations, algorithms, and equations; 3) Observing relationships among the elements of the problem; 4) Formulating a plan to solve the problem; 5) Predicting outcome; 6) Regulating the solution path as it is executed; 7) Detecting and correcting errors during problem solution which is then followed by in-depth interviews. The results showed that students with high mathematical abilities went through all stages of the cognitive process quite coherently and completely. While students with moderate abilities went through the stage of understanding information to the calculation stage of planning, but there were some errors and corrections in finding solutions. Meanwhile, students with low abilities had not been able to show the stages of cognitive processes in a coherent manner so that many stages were interrupted and had to return to the stage of understanding the problem. Based on these results, it is hoped that learning for the preparation of the Minimum Competency Assessment for Geometry and Measurement material can be emphasized more and so that the understanding of information on students' problems can continue the completion stage according to the solution plan that they have made. Keywords: Cognitive Processes, Numeracy, Geometry and Measurement.

Abstract

Abstract Minimum Competency Assesment measures two basic competencies, namely reading literacy and numeracy literacy. PISA results showed that the Indonesian students’ ability in the mathematics category is relatively low. Numeracy is an ability to use mathematics to solve daily life problems. One of the closely related to everyday life mathematical topics is ratio and proportion. However, there are still many students’ difficulties in solving problems related to ratios and proportions which are basically the basis concept for mathematical knowledge and science understanding. Therefore, it’s necessary to conduct a students' numeracy skills analysis related to ratios and proportions in order to facilitate the process in improving students' abilities. This study aims to describe students' numeracy skills in solving the AKM questions development on ratio and proportion with a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of this study were 8th grade students who participate in AKM. Researcher used test and interviews as collect data techniques which was then analyzed in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and verification. The result showed that there are students' numeracy skills indicators that haven’t been fully achieved, including students' ability to analyze information presented in various forms (diagrams, tables, etc.) and to interpret the analysis results to make decisions. While the most often appear indicator is the students’ ability to use various kinds of numbers or symbols to solve daily life problems. The results of this study can be used as a basis for adjusting learning models and strategies as an effort to improve students' numeracy skills. Keywords: numeracy skills, AKM, ratio and proportion.

Abstract

Conjecture will always be used by learners in problem solving, because the conjecture itself is tied to activities such as logical reasoning, translating problems, analyzing and evaluating an information to obtain valid decisions related to problem solving, where the conjecture is also able to develop the learning process of the learner in making a statement, especially with the help of open problems in its application, Which can make learners morecreative. This research aims to illustrate the conjecture ability of learners in open-ended problems with descriptive types of research and qualitative approaches to number pattern material, especially generalizing patterns. The subjects of the study are four learners who have a high and moderate level of mathematical ability and are willing to take part in interviews. The results showed that all subjects have not been able to perform every stage on constructing the conjecture, especially in the stage of arguing the conjecture and there is one subject who does not do the stage of proof of the conjecture because it is confident in the formula that has been given by the teacher. So that learning activities are needed in which there is problem solving that collects the ability of learners' contours, open-ended problems can also be one of the problem choices that can help students build their thought processes independently, and not bound by the formula of teachers or books.

Abstract

Mathematics uses a lot of visual representations, one of which is geometry. In capturing mathematical information, visual sensing plays a very important role. This has an impact on low vision students in understanding and mastering the material. This study is interested to describe errors experienced by a low vision student in solving the problem of determining the area and circumference of plane figures and its alternative solutions. This research is an intrinsic case study research with a qualitative approach. The research subject was one low vision student with normal cognitive development. Data analysis to determine student errors is described using Newman's Error Analysis. The results showed that students did not have difficulty in reading, but experienced major errors in determining the completion steps for a problem (Transformation Errors). Errors in understanding the context (Comprehension Errors) problems often occur when students are faced with complex problems. Other errors occur in the calculation (Process Skill Errors) and writing the final result (Encoding Errors). This research can be an evaluation for teachers in planning mathematics learning activities using appropriate and varied learning methods and media.
