Abstract

The role of health workers as supporters and trainers in improving performance, providing motivation for Posyandu cadres to always be involved in all Posyandu activities. The level of knowledge of health workers in assessing basic Posyandu skills will greatly determine the quality of services provided. The formulation of the problem in this study through preliminary research conducted on health workers in 10 health centers in Medan City showed that the average value of their knowledge about Posyandu was 63.5 (target ≥ 70). This study aims to determine the effect of health worker training conducted by the Medan City Health Office. The study was conducted using a quasi-experimental method. The number of research samples was 30 people. The material provided was the latest concept and regulation on the integration of primary services at Posyandu. With interactive lecture training methods, group discussions, role play and field practice. The results showed that the mean pre-test value was 72.52 while the mean post-test value was 92.56, there was an increase in value of 29.81 and after being tested with Wilcoxon the p-value was <0.001. The results show that there is a significant difference in the knowledge of training participants about integrated health posts. Knowledge variables according to age, gender, education, work unit, length of service are not factors that influence the pre-test and post-test scores of health workers. It can be concluded that the training that has been given has increased the knowledge of health workers from the post-test assessment conducted. The results of this study are expected to be a medium for evaluating the implementation of basic competency training for integrated health posts for health workers so that the next training period can provide better results.

Abstract

Medical waste management is an essential component of hospital healthcare services. This study analyzed the implementation of area-based medical waste management in accordance with Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia Number 18 of 2020 at Dr. Komang Makes Indonesian Navy Hospital, Belawan. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving eight purposively selected informants comprising key, main, and supporting informants. The management process included waste segregation, transportation, temporary storage, and final treatment in collaboration with third parties. Overall, implementation was consistent with applicable regulations and supported by internal policies, management commitment, infrastructure, budget allocation, and integration with quality improvement, Infection Prevention and Control, and Occupational Health and Safety programs. However, several challenges remained, including inadequate waste containers during periods of high patient volume, limited capacity of the hazardous waste Temporary Storage Facility, and delays in third-party transportation caused by logistical and geographical constraints. The hospital should strengthen source-based segregation, optimize hazardous waste storage capacity, and improve operational supervision, particularly in high-workload units. The study concludes that medical waste management was generally aligned with Regulation of the Minister of Health Number 18 of 2020. Continuous improvement is required to address increasing waste volumes and regional coordination challenges

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in developing countries. It is a condition of chronic malnutrition characterized by a child’s height being below the standard for his or her age and may lead to impaired physical growth, cognitive development, and increased risks of health problems later in life. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with stunting prevalence among children aged 24–59 months in Gariuai Village, Baucau Municipality, Timor-Leste. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among a population of 557 children. A sample of 253 children was selected using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis, the Chi-Square test for bivariate analysis, and multiple logistic regression for multivariate analysis. The results revealed that 11.1% of the children were stunted. Exclusive breastfeeding, family income, access to clean water, and toilet facilities were significantly associated with stunting prevalence, whereas maternal education and birth weight history were not significantly associated with stunting. Exclusive breastfeeding was identified as the most dominant factor associated with stunting. These findings indicate that local health interventions should prioritize strengthening exclusive breastfeeding support and counseling, particularly for vulnerable families, while continuing to improve household income, access to clean water, and sanitation facilities.
