Abstract

This article aims to comprehensively review the basics of educational research including quantitative, qualitative, mixed methods research, as well as research ethics. Using the methods of literature study and content analysis, the realities of educational research are decomposed through a conceptual review. The results of the study show that the quantitative approach is based on the philosophy of positivism, focuses on the measurement of numbers, and produces cause-and-effect generalizations. Qualitative research is grounded in constructivism, emphasizes on understanding deep meaning, and is narratively descriptive in nature. Meanwhile, mixed methods integrate both approaches to find practical solutions. Research ethics demands that researchers uphold scientific honesty, objectivity, and respect participants’ rights, such as informed consent and data confidentiality. A strong understanding of these fundamentals is essential for prospective educators, particularly PAI students, as a provision for scholarly skills in both academic and teaching practice

Abstract

This article examines three main paradigms in educational research: positivist, constructivist, and pragmatic, with a focus on their ontological, epistemological, and methodological foundations. Using a conceptual study approach, this review maps the characteristics, strengths, and limitations of each paradigm and their relevance in improving the quality of educational research. The positivist paradigm emphasizes objectivity and a quantitative approach to uncover cause-and-effect relationships. The constructivist paradigm focuses on gaining deep understanding of meaning and experience through flexible qualitative methods. Meanwhile, the pragmatic paradigm prioritizes practical usefulness through adaptive mixed methods. The study finds that selecting the appropriate paradigm, aligned with the research objectives, can produce valid, relevant findings that impact educational development. This review provides guidance for researchers to design studies that are reflective and responsive to field needs.

Abstract

Research planning is a crucial initial stage that determines the quality and direction of educational research. A well-structured research plan functions not only as a procedural guide but also as a form of academic accountability that ensures scientific coherence and rigor. This article aims to examine educational research planning from a conceptual perspective by emphasizing the integration of its main components. The method used in this study is a conceptual literature review of research methodology books and relevant scholarly articles in the field of educational research. The findings indicate that an effective educational research plan should include clear problem formulation, well-defined research objectives and significance, relevant theoretical and literature review, appropriate formulation of hypotheses or research questions, and accurate determination of population and sampling. The integration of these components is essential to maintain coherence, validity, and clear research direction. This article is expected to serve as a conceptual reference for students and educational researchers, particularly novice researchers, in developing systematic, logical, and scientifically grounded research plans.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that most of the preparation and budgeting of quality improvement programs and activities are not fully data-based, so they are still partial and unsustainable. This is a problem that will impact other aspects, including the implementation of programs in educational units that are not measurable, partial, and unsustainable, ultimately resulting in no significant improvement in educational quality. The purpose of this study is to determine the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards in senior high schools. The implementation of research related to the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards in senior high schools, used qualitative research with descriptive study methods. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of SPMI also faces challenges. One of them is the resistance of some teachers to changes in learning approaches based on data and project literacy. The impact of the implementation of an internal quality assurance system based on educational report cards has brought significant changes to the learning process. Teachers are more active in adapting learning approaches based on critical literacy and project-based learning. Students are involved in exploratory activities such as mini-research, article presentations, and text-based group discussions. The school climate has become more positive and dialogical. Relationships between students, teachers, and management have become more open thanks to regular reflection spaces and collaborative literacy activities. Student discussion forums have become a healthy platform for criticism and appreciation of the school system.

Abstract

Data analysis techniques play a crucial role in scientific research as they determine the validity and quality of research findings. Recent developments in Indonesian research indicate an increasing diversity in the use of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed data analysis techniques. Therefore, a comprehensive review is required to systematically examine these developments. This study aims to analyze quantitative and qualitative data analysis techniques used in Indonesian national journal articles. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method by examining national journal articles published in Indonesia from 2021 to 2025. The SLR process was conducted through several stages, including the formulation of research questions, systematic literature searching, article selection based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and data synthesis and analysis. The results indicate that quantitative data analysis techniques remain dominant, particularly descriptive statistics, regression analysis, correlation analysis, and analysis of variance. Meanwhile, qualitative data analysis techniques such as thematic analysis, narrative analysis, and content analysis are widely used to obtain an in-depth understanding of research phenomena. In addition, the use of mixed methods approaches has shown a growing trend, as they provide more comprehensive and robust research findings. This study is expected to serve as a methodological reference for researchers in selecting appropriate data analysis techniques based on research objectives and data characteristics.

Abstract

This study examines the essential role of research title construction and problem formulation in educational research. A research title serves as a concise conceptual indicator of the study’s scope, variables, and context, while the formulation of a research problem provides the intellectual foundation that guides objectives, methodological choices, and data analysis. Despite their importance, many novice researchers continue to struggle in identifying researchable problems and aligning them with coherent titles. Using a descriptive qualitative approach supported by literature analysis, this study finds that effective titles must be clear, relevant, and reflective of meaningful educational issues. Likewise, a well-formulated problem must address a genuine conceptual or empirical gap and be feasible for investigation. Findings demonstrate that clarity in problem formulation strongly correlates with methodological coherence and the overall quality of research outcomes. Conversely, vague problems often lead to weak analytical conclusions. This study underscores the need for stronger methodological literacy among educators and students.
