Abstract

Recognizing letters and numbers is essential in early childhood as a foundation for literacy and numeracy. This study aimed to improve these skills through memory game media. Using a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Thiagarajan 4D model (define, design, develop, disseminate), the research involved 3 teachers and 15 students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. Results showed an increase in recognition skills from 61% (pre-test) to 71% (post-test). Teacher responses rated the media at 94.06% effectiveness. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test confirmed significant improvement (66 positive ranks; p < 0.05). Memory game media proved effective for enhancing letter and number recognition in early childhood. The study offers practical insights for integrating interactive media into early education and encourages further research for broader application.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of a deep learning–based daily activity storybook in enhancing early literacy skills among children aged 5–6 years. Employing a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the research involved 22 children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated and reliable literacy observation sheet (Aiken’s V = 0.84–0.95; a = 0.91; ICC = 0.84) measuring children’s ability to comprehend symbols, use vocabulary, and express ideas meaningfully. Statistical analysis using the Paired Sample t-test revealed a significant difference between pretest (M = 52.14, SD = 4.38) and posttest (M = 74.27, SD = 5.16) scores, t (21) = 13.42, p < 0.001, with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.86). The findings demonstrate that integrating deep learning principles into contextual storybooks substantially improves children’s functional and expressive literacy. The study’s novelty lies in combining literacy, communication, and experiential learning through a child-centered storytelling model. Practically, it offers teachers an innovative pedagogical tool aligned with the Merdeka Curriculum, fostering joyful and meaningful learning. This research contributes to strengthening the theoretical and practical foundation of deep learning–based literacy education in early childhood contexts.

Abstract

This study examines how social media functions as a learning space for rethinking history education among digital-native students in Indonesian senior high schools. Responding to the shift from textbook-centered learning to digitally mediated historical engagement, this study employed a qualitative case study approach involving 30 students and 12 history teachers from six senior high schools in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal four major themes: social media as an entry point to historical engagement, critical negotiation of digital historical narratives, participatory historical meaning-making, and tensions in social media-based history learning. Platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp increased students’ interest by presenting historical content in visual, multimodal, and familiar formats. However, students initially tended to judge credibility based on popularity indicators such as likes, views, and comments. Teacher mediation was therefore crucial in guiding students to evaluate sources, compare perspectives, contextualize historical events, and produce evidence-based digital narratives. The study concludes that social media can enrich history education when integrated with critical digital literacy and historical inquiry. Rather than replacing textbooks or teacher explanation, social media should function as a bridge between students’ everyday digital culture and the disciplinary practices of history learning.

Abstract

The availability of learning materials that support independent learning is an important factor in improving the quality of higher education. In the Video Media Development course, students often experience difficulties in understanding the stages of video media development systematically due to the limited availability of instructional materials that are practical, concise, and well-structured. This study aimed to develop a micro module that is valid and practical as a supplementary learning resource for the Video Media Development course. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects included material experts, media experts, instructional experts, and students of the Educational Technology Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar. Data were collected through interviews, needs assessment questionnaires, expert validation questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. The findings revealed that the level of student need for the developed micro module reached 94%, indicating a highly needed category. The validation results showed that the material expert assessment reached 88%, the media expert assessment reached 100%, and the instructional expert assessment reached 92%, all of which were categorized as highly valid. Furthermore, the practicality test involving 43 students obtained a score of 89.22%, indicating a highly practical category. These findings demonstrate that the developed micro module is feasible for use as a supplementary learning resource in the Video Media Development course and has the potential to support students’ independent learning effectively.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the needs, develop a product design, and test the validity and practicality of a multilingual fiction-based picture storybook (Makassar and Indonesian) learning media featuring Lontara script for third-grade students. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach, applying the 4-D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The study subjects consisted of 20 third-grade students, one homeroom teacher, and two expert validators. Data collection instruments included a needs analysis questionnaire, a validation sheet, and a user response questionnaire. The results showed that the content expert's level of validity reached a very good level with a percentage of 100%, while the media expert's level of validity reached a good level with a percentage of 82%. In the practicality test, responses from students reached 92% and responses from homeroom teachers reached 100%, both of which fall into the very practical category. The conclusion of this study shows that the fiction-based picture story book learning media developed is valid, very practical, and effective to use as a fun supporting media as well as being a concrete effort in preserving the Lontara Makassar script culture for students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of Artificial Intelligence (AI) utilization by students, the level of originality of academic assignments produced with AI assistance, the positive and negative impacts of AI use, and the efforts students make to maintain the originality of their academic work. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, with data collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and a questionnaire (Google Form) distributed to 15 sixth-semester students of the Educational Technology Study Program at Universitas Negeri Makassar and 2 lecturers. Data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that ChatGPT and Gemini are the AI applications most frequently used by students, mainly to search for references, obtain initial information, and improve text structure at the early stage of assignment writing. The positive impacts of AI use include time efficiency, ease of generating initial ideas, and improved writing quality, while the negative impacts include the risk of technological plagiarism and potential dependency that may reduce students’ critical thinking when AI is used excessively. The originality of students’ academic work is generally still well maintained through concrete efforts such as reading and comprehending information before use, paraphrasing in their own words, comparing AI-generated information with valid books or scientific journals, and checking text similarity using Turnitin. Lecturers emphasized that AI should be positioned as a learning partner or supporting tool rather than a substitute for students’ independent thinking process.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the optimization of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model through the use of Canva media in Biology learning at the Firdaus Maros Education Foundation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews with four Biology teachers. The results show that the use of Canva can improve the quality of learning through the presentation of materials that are more visual, interactive, and interesting. The integration of Canva in project-based learning encourages active student engagement, increases learning motivation, and develops 21st-century skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication. Students not only understand Biology concepts theoretically, but are also able to produce tangible products such as posters, infographics, and presentations as a form of their understanding. Despite obstacles such as limited internet connection and variations in digital literacy, the use of video tutorials and support from belajar.id accounts are solutions in optimizing the use of Canva. Thus, Canva plays a role not only as a learning medium, but also as a strategic tool in supporting the implementation of Project Based Learning that is innovative and relevant to the demands of 21st-century learning.
