Abstract

As a result of their increased exposure to technology, today's students are skilled users of a wide range of digital gadgets in their daily lives. To solve difficulties, they can freely access knowledge across a variety of digital platforms; this ability has to be included into contemporary learning principles. The purpose of this study is to investigate how lecturers might modify innovative teaching methods to better suit the needs of their students. 125 people participated in the survey that we did; 59 of them were from scientific programs and 66 were from non-science programs. The study used observation sheets, interview guides, and questionnaires. The questionnaire was split into two sections: one measured students' opinion of the technology and pedagogical innovations used by lecturers, and the other their reactions to the classroom and educational system. Before any data was collected, the validity and reliability of the instruments were confirmed. The findings showed that students had preferences for different types of technology. Students in scientific programs liked interactive platforms like Edmodo and Google Classroom, while students in other programs liked webinars and video conferences. Additionally, the study found a relationship between the educational trends that lecturers apply, pedagogical innovation, and the learning environment. The results of this study are anticipated to improve instructional practices in digital learning settings and provide a basis for policymaking in continuing education.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the impact of the discovery learning model with a scientific approach on students' ability to represent macroscopic, submicroscopic, and symbolic aspects of buffer solutions. This study is quantitative research of the quasi-experimental type, utilizing a one group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique employed is saturated sampling, where the entire population in the study becomes the research sample, consisting of 44 students from Bala Keselamatan Palu High School. The instrument used to measure the three abilities of student representation employs six essay questions, with each degree of representation assessed by two questions. Prior to usage, the six questions are initially verified by an expert of chemical representation abilities. The data analysis techniques used consist of descriptive data analysis and inferential data analysis. The results of the descriptive data analysis indicate that students' representational abilities have improved after participating in learning using the discovery learning model with a scientific approach. The ability of macroscopic representation has a higher average value and percentage of achievement indicators compared to symbolic and submicroscopic representation abilities. The inferential statistical analysis results indicate that the significant value of the Wilcoxon test is 0.000. The value is smaller than the significance level of 0.05, hence it can be concluded that the discovery learning model with a scientific approach influences students' representation abilities.

Abstract

The herbaceous Belugas leaves (Pluchea indica L.) belong to the Asteraceae family and are commonly utilized as food and hedges. They typically grow wild. Alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenes, and steroids are among the substances found in belugas leaves that may have insecticidal properties. The purpose of this study is to use the leaf extract of Beluntas (Pluchea indica L.) as a foundational component for liquid mosquito repellant. In order to produce a thick extract of beluntas leaves, this study used an extraction process that involved evaporating 96% ethanol solvent. Several concentrations of the thick extract were diluted, including 15%, 25%, 35%, 45%, and 55%. The collected data, which was mosquito mortality, was subjected to a One-Way Anova test with a significance level of p = 0.000 <0.05, and then the Duncan test.  The findings demonstrated that the number of mosquitoes that perished varied depending on the concentration fluctuations of beluntas leaf extract, with the highest concentration of beluntas leaf extract killing mosquitoes at a rate of 55% and a mosquito mortality percentage of 98.4%.

Abstract

Bullying, sexual violence, and drug abuse are behaviors that currently attract the attention of education observers. Many of these behaviors occur in school-age children including in elementary schools. Therefore, one of the efforts made to minimize the development of this is by conducting socialization. The socialization activities carried out by the service team are an initial step to protect and prevent bullying, sexual violence, and drug abuse in schools. This socialization aims to provide information to students about the types of bullying, sexual violence, and drug abuse, and actions that can be taken to avoid or prevent these things so that the final result expected from this socialization activity is the formation of positive characters from students to prevent and avoid these behaviors. This socialization activity is integrated with one of the student programs from the Tadulako University campus who participated in Campus Teaching Batch 5 assigned to SDN 8 Palu.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of learning styles and learning models on students’ critical thinking skills and self-efficacy in chemistry, with a focus on atomic structure and fundamental chemical laws. The research design employed was a quasi-experimental 2×3 factorial design with 108 tenth-grade high school students. The independent variables were the learning model (Problem-Based Learning/PBL and direct instruction) and learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic). In contrast, the dependent variables were critical thinking skills and self-efficacy. Data were collected using the VAK learning style inventory, a validated critical thinking test, and a self-efficacy questionnaire. Data analysis employed two-way ANOVA followed by Tukey HSD post hoc tests. The results revealed that both learning models and learning styles significantly impacted students’ critical thinking skills. Students with kinesthetic learning styles performed better in critical thinking than those with visual or auditory learning styles. However, learning styles did not significantly influence self-efficacy, suggesting that students’ confidence is more strongly shaped by mastery experiences, positive feedback, and social support. The PBL model significantly enhanced both critical thinking skills and self-efficacy, highlighting the value of collaborative and contextual learning activities in developing higher-order thinking and motivation. A significant interaction was observed between learning styles and learning models, with a notable benefit for visual and kinesthetic learners in terms of self-efficacy. This study acknowledges the fundamental limitation of the VAK framework, as empirical evidence for its validity remains weak; hence, interpretations should be made cautiously. Theoretically, the findings support Bandura’s social cognitive theory, which emphasizes that self-efficacy and learning outcomes are shaped through active engagement and authentic experiences. Practically, this study suggests designing adaptive PBL approaches aligned with learners’ diverse characteristics to optimize both motivation and confidence in chemistry learning. Keywords: learning styles, problem-based learning (PBL), critical thinking skills, self-efficacy.

Abstract

Students' learning habits have changed dramatically due to the rapid development of digital technology, especially among digital natives. However, many teachers still rely on traditional learning theories such as behaviorism and cognitivism, resulting in a disconnect between instructional approaches and students’ learning preferences. This study explores the conflict between established learning theories and the actual learning behaviors of digital native students in secondary schools in Palu City, Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five teachers and seven students, alongside classroom observations and documentation. Thematic coding analysis revealed a significant pedagogical gap: while students prefer interactive, technology-driven, and self-directed learning experiences, most teachers continue to use one-way, teacher-centered instructional methods. This mismatch limits student engagement and reduces the overall effectiveness of the learning process. The findings suggest that current pedagogical strategies fail to align with the characteristics and expectations of digital native learners. The study concludes that to address this challenge, educators must shift toward constructivist and connectivist approaches that integrate digital tools and platforms. A reflective transformation in teaching practices is urgently needed to bridge the gap between theoretical frameworks and the practical demands of learning in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of the lottery card method on student learning outcomes in acid-base solution material during video-assisted discovery learning. This study used a pre-test and post-test control group design. The study population consisted of all 247 ninth-grade students at SMA Negeri 5 Palu, across eight classes.  Two classes were selected as samples, namely class XI Merdeka 5 (control) and class XI Merdeka 6 (experimental), each with the same number of 34 students, using simple random sampling. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests. The control class used only the discovery learning model, while the experimental class used the lottery card method in video-assisted discovery learning. From the analysis results, the N-ngai score for the control class was 0.49, and for the experimental class was 0.67, both of which were classified as moderate. Although both were moderate, the N-ngai score for the experimental class was higher than that for the control class. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.001, which is less than 0.05, so it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Therefore, it can be said that the lottery card method in discovery learning assisted by video media has an effect on student learning outcomes in acid-base solution material.
