Abstract

Keterlambatan penyelesaian skripsi masih menjadi permasalahan serius di banyak program studi kependidikan, termasuk Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Mataram.

Abstract

This study analyzes students’ errors and writing flow in process paragraphs written by first-semester English Department students at the University of Mataram in the academic year 2024/2025. The objectives are to identify types of errors, evaluate the quality of writing flow, and perceive causes of errors. The data were obtained from 15 students’ process paragraphs and interviews with five students, then analyzed using Dulay et. al. (1982) Surface Strategy Taxonomy, Norrish’s (1983) causes of errors, and Oshima and Hogue’s (2006) framework for writing flow. The findings revealed a total of 60 errors consisting of misformation (40%), omission (30%), misordering (18.3%), and addition (11.7%). These errors were primarily caused by carelessness, translation habits, and first language interference, often occurring simultaneously. In terms of writing flow, all students successfully maintained a clear time sequence, 80% used appropriate transition signals, yet only 46.7% consistently applied the principle of one step per sentence. These weaknesses reduced sentence-level clarity despite overall chronological organization. In conclusion, the study shows that students’ challenges in writing process paragraphs are both grammatical and developmental, suggesting the need for grammar reinforcement alongside explicit instruction on coherence, transitions, and sentence clarity.

Abstract

The growing presence of artificial intelligence in education has introduced new possibilities for providing feedback in academic writing. This study investigates students’ perceptions of feedback generated by ChatGPT in an argumentative writing course in the English Language Education Program at Universitas Islam Negeri Mataram, Indonesia. The research aims to understand how students perceive the usefulness of ChatGPT feedback, identify the aspects of feedback they find most helpful, and examine the challenges they experience when using the tool during the writing revision process. The study employed a descriptive mixed-method approach involving thirty-five undergraduate students. Data were collected through a rubric-based writing assessment, a perception questionnaire, and semi-structured interviews. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, while qualitative responses were examined through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that students generally perceive ChatGPT feedback as useful in improving grammar accuracy, sentence clarity, and organization of ideas in their essays. At the same time, students reported that some suggestions required careful evaluation because they did not always align with the intended argument. The study suggests that ChatGPT can function as a supplementary feedback resource that supports students during the revision stage. When combined with instructor guidance, artificial intelligence tools may contribute to more interactive and reflective learning environments in academic writing courses within Islamic higher education.

Abstract

Andrographis paniculata has been used empirically by people as traditional medicine to treat diabetes. In this study, we correlated the FTIR spectra and α-glucosidase inhibition by using chemometrics analysis to obtain a functional group from the metabolite present in A. paniculata herb exhibited α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. A. paniculata herb powder was extracted using water, ethanol, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane using ultrasonication method. The dried extract obtained was then measured for its FTIR spectra and determined for α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Absorbance data from the FTIR spectra of A. paniculata herb extracts were used as a principal component analysis (PCA) variable for grouping extract based on the solvent extractor used. In addition, partial least square regression analysis (PLSR) is also used to predict functional groups from metabolites that cause inhibition of α-glucosidase. In the PLSR, we correlated using the FTIR spectrum's absorbance values and IC50 of α-glucosidase inhibitory activity. Before being subjected to PCA and PLSR, the FTIR spectrum was preprocessed using standard normal variate. PCA using the absorbance data from 1800–1000 cm-1 and 2800–3400 cm-1 could group the extract based on extracting solvent used with a cumulative percentage of the two principal components (PC), namely PC-1 and PC-2 are 86%. The PLSR analysis showed that OH, C=O, C=C, and C-O are the predicted functional groups related to the inhibition of α-glucosidase. So, those functional groups are present in the metabolites in A. paniculata herb extracts that contributed to the inhibition of α-glucosidase.

Abstract

Movies frequently serve as a medium for educating large audiences about social, cultural, and moral issues. Through its characters and plot, Encanto, one of Disney's culturally grounded productions, offers deep ethical messages. The purpose of this study is to determine the moral principles depicted in Encanto by Walt Disney Studios and examine how they relate to Colombian society's cultural background. Using Linda and Eyre's (1993) categorization of moral values—Values of Being and Values of Giving—as the main analytical framework and Abrams' (1971) pragmatic theory to assess cultural relevance, a qualitative descriptive technique was utilized. The information was gathered using document analysis of the movie's speech and scenes. Twenty examples of moral values—honesty, courage, peaceability, self-assurance, discipline, loyalty, respect, love, selflessness, kindness, and justice—are revealed by the research. Love stands out as the most important of these. The analysis also shows that these values reflect key features of Colombian culture, including familismo, armonía familiar, and respeto a los mayores. In conclusion, Encanto is a significant medium for moral instruction and cultural principles, especially those ingrained in Colombian family life, in addition to being a source of amusement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the influence of interactive learning media on increasing the creativity of Buddhist Sunday School students in Tanjung Sari District. This research departs from the problem of low student activity in discussing, asking questions, and contributing to the learning process. Students tend to be passive because they are less interested in monotonous teaching methods, limited to the use of textbooks as the primary source. This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research population consisted of all 78 students of the Buddhist Sunday School in Tanjung Sari District. The sample was determined using the saturated sampling technique, so that the entire population was used as respondents. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scale questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability tests. Data were analysed using simple linear regression to test the influence of independent variables on dependent variables, assisted by SPSS software 24. The results of the study show that there is a positive and significant influence of interactive learning media on increasing student creativity. The results of the study indicate that interactive learning media requires careful planning in order to motivate students to be actively involved. Therefore, Buddhist Sunday School teachers need to adapt the use of interactive media to the needs, characteristics, and level of development of students, as well as create a learning climate that supports participation and freedom of expression. Thus, interactive learning media can be an effective means of encouraging creativity, as long as it is supported by the right learning strategies and good communication skills of teachers.
