Abstract

The latest COVID-19 pandemic has taught the importance of nutrition and immunity to prevent diseases, in which case the fatality rate exceeded 2.58%. Immunity is believed to be one of the critical efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This is, for sure, inseparable from nutritional intake, exercise, and environmental factors. However, that needed to be better understood by many people. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of online-based nutrition education in increasing knowledge and self-efficacy to maintain a balanced nutritional intake and implement hygiene. Online-based nutrition education was done using video conference by Zoom conference and text-based education methods using Telegram. Each session is held for approximately two hours. Samples were all collected voluntarily, comprising an adult population aged 19 – 5 . Knowledge and self-efficacy were measured using a structured questionnaire. In total, 217 samples were recruited. 92.2% of participants were female, the average age was 29 ± 10.04, 34.1% worked as civil servants, and the majority, 52.1%, came from East Java. Education with the digital learning method succeeded in increasing nutritional knowledge from a score of 55.9 to 91.8 (p<0.000) and significantly increasing self-efficacy of consuming balanced-nutritious food and self-efficacy of a clean and healthy lifestyle (p<0.000). In conclusion, online-based nutrition education proved effective in increasing knowledge and self-efficacy. Hence, program duplication with a broader range of subjects can be done nationally.

Abstract

Parents play a vital role in shaping children's dietary habits, which are influenced by family behaviors, parental health literacy, and socio-economic status. Poor parental health literacy and low socio-economic status often lead to unhealthy child nutrition and lower physical activity. This study investigates the impact of nutritional education on parental knowledge at Yayasan An-Nusyur Aeng Panas, aiming to improve childhood nutrition in resource-limited settings. The research employed a pre-experimental design (one group pre-test post-test) to assess changes in parental knowledge after a 3-hour nutrition education session, delivered by a team of nutritionists from Indonesia and Malaysia. Data were collected from 27 parents of kindergarten students in Sumenep Madura in February 2024 through questionnaires. The results were analyzed using SPSS version 26 and the Wilcoxon Matched-Pairs Test. The findings revealed an increase in participants' knowledge, with a pre-test average score of 84.444 and a post-test average score of 86.667. However, the Wilcoxon test showed no statistically significant difference (p=0.439) between pre- and post-test scores. Despite the knowledge improvement after the education session, the difference was not significant. This suggests that while educational interventions can enhance awareness, further efforts may be required to achieve a measurable impact.

Abstract

Work fatigue is a problem that often occurs in female workers. The higher risk of fatigue among female workers is caused by several factors including nutritional status, energy adequacy level, and sleep duration. Central obesity status is associated with a decrease in the maximal oxygen capacity (VO2 max) that triggers work fatigue. Sleep is related to the recovery time of the body's vital organs, while energy is needed for various body metabolisms. This research was aimed to analyze the relationship between central obesity, energy adequacy, and sleep duration with work fatigue in female workers at PT Galaxy Surya Panelindo. This study used a cross-sectional research design with a sample of 50 female production workers at PT Galaxy Surya Panelindo. The sampling technique used random sampling method. Data was collected by measuring waist circumference and hip circumference, Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQFFQ), Subjective Self Rating Test (SRRT), and sleep duration. There was no relationship between sleep duration and work fatigue (p=0.951). However there was a relationship between central obesity status (p=0.001), energy adequacy level (p=<0.001) and work-nutrition fatigue. The nutritional status of central obesity and inadequate energy fulfillment, both excess or deficiency when compared to needs, can increase work fatigue. Therefore, the prevention of work fatigue can be done by implementing a healthy lifestyle and eating a balanced diet as needed.

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a condition of decreased bone mass and disruption of bone microarchitecture that often occurs in the elderly. One of the causes of osteoporosis is menopause as reduced estrogen secretion increases bone resorption by osteoclasts activity, and the body's oxidative stress. Currently, osteoporosis is still a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the elderly. Prevention is vital in reducing this disease. Recent studies have shown a reduction in bone loss with lycopene consumption. High serum lycopene is also reported to be associated with decreased protein oxidation and bone resorption in postmenopausal women. This literature aimed to examine and analyze the research results related to the potential of lycopene on bone loss based on molecular and clinical research evidence in preventing osteoporosis in elderly women. Literature review on published papers in English in the last 10 years (2011 – 2021) was conducted using electronic database. Reviewed experimental and cohort studies on elderly women and experimental animals showed influence and effect of lycopene on bone loss. Lycopene may contribute in reduction of oxidative stress caused by reduced secretion of estrogen.

Abstract

Introduction:Emotional eating is a person's response to stress or inadequate and ineffective stress coping and is shown by the behavior of eating more than needed and is associated with increased body weight. Emotional eating is caused by age, gender, exercise habits, and work stress. Based on the observations carried out at Kalla Group Office, employees tend to work in a monotonous and static manner that has the potential to increase the risk of emotional eating. The aim of this research is to determine the strength and weakness of the correlation between age, gender, exercise habits, and work stress with emotional eating in Kalla Head Office workers. Methods: This quantitative research was carried out through analytical observational design. The number of samples taken is 133 people using purposive sampling. In this case, the independent variables measured are age, gender, exercise habits, and work stress. Meanwhile, the dependent variable studied is the level of emotional eating using "The Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire of 13 items (DEBQ-13)". Data were further analyzed using Spearman correlation coefficient test (Spearman rho). Results: The research results show varied relationship with the independent variables including age (r = 0.052), gender (r = 0.251), exercise habits (r = -0.128), and stress (r = 0.048). Conclusion: Age is a variable that has the weakest relationship, while gender has the strongest relationship with emotional eating compared to the variables exercise habits and work stress.

Abstract

Introduction: Work fatigue is often a neglected problem because the symptoms are not specific and not visible directly to the naked eye. Occupational fatigue itself contributes more than 60% of all occupational accidents that occur in the workplace. The high rate of occupational fatigue that can contribute to work accidents is very interesting to be studied further related to the causal factors, including physical activity and muscular strength. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of physical activity and muscular strength with the incidence of fatigue in sedentary workers at Kalla Group located in Makassar, South Sulawesi. Method: The research is cross sectional study with samples in this study were sedentary workers who had relatively similar workloads and lifestyles which were then selected through simple random sampling calculations. This research uses ordinal regression statistical tests. Result: The test results obtained are p-value (p = 0.046) which means there is a significant relationship between fatigue and muscle strength, but there is no relationship between fatigue and exercise habits, no relationship between fatigue and smoking habits, no relationship between fatigue and staying up late and no relationship between fatigue and sitting time in a day on sedentary workers at Kalla Group, Makassar, South Sulawesi. Conclusion: Workers need to do light muscle stretching so that workers do not get tired easily when working in a static position for a long time and workers also need to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Abstract

Introduction: In 2020, labor force participation rate for women in East Java province was 70,0%, and in Lumajang district reached 66,19%. Women usually have a higher fat mass compared to men. Body composition dominated by fat mass can reduce oxygen distribution process, can cause anaerobic energy metabolism which produce lactic acid as final product and causes fatigue. Low diet quality is related with high energy and fat intake which will result in body fat mass elevation and work fatigue. This study aimed to determine the correlation between diet quality and body composition with work fatigue. Method: This study used cross sectional design with total respondents of 120 female workers in production division of wood factory. Collected data were means of anthropometric measurements (weight, height, upper arm circumference, and abdominal circumference), Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire, and Subjective Self Rating Test. Correlation test used were Chi square test continued with Pearson correlation test. Result: Result showed a significant correlation between work fatigue and total sodium intake per day (p=0.040), total saturated fat intake (p=0.037), Body Mass Index (p<0.001), abdominal circumference (p<0.001), and upper arm circumference (p=0.002). Conclusion: Improving diet quality and decreasing body fat mass can reduce work fatigue.

Abstract

Introduction: Emotional eating, as a method of stress coping mechanism in workers, makes a person tend to consume more energy daily. Uncontrolled daily intake will lead to a high probability of a person developing metabolic syndrome in the future. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between working style to stress, coping mechanisms, and metabolic syndrome risk in sedentary workers. Method: This research is a cross-sectional study conducted at Kalla Group. Measurement of blood biochemistry (total cholesterol, blood glucose and uric acid) used FORA 6 Plus, blood pressure was measured using Omron digital sphygmomanometer 7130, waist circumference using Seca 201 measuring tape, and height using GEA microtoise. Measurements of body composition used Omron Karada Scan Hbf 375 Body Fat Composition Monitor Bioimpedance Analyzer. Stress was measured using Kessler Psychological Distress Scale K10 instrument. Coping mechanism was measured using Carver’s COPE Inventory. Result: Significant correlations were found for cholesterol levels (p = 0.044), waist circumference (p = 0.036), blood pressure (p = 0.042), and muscular percentage (p = 0.032). No significant correlations were found between working style for stress level (p = 0.683), coping mechanisms (p = 0.744), blood glucose (p = 0.128), uric acid (p = 0.380), visceral fat percentage (p = 0.128), and fat mass (p = 0.547). Conclusion: Significant correlations were found between working style for cholesterol levels, waist circumference, blood pressure, and muscular percentage, suggesting that different working styles may influence these health aspects.

Abstract

Introduction: In Indonesia, obesity numbers increased from 10.5% in 2007 to 14.8% in 2013 and 21.8% in 2018. Very low calorie diets (VLCD) are currently gaining popularity to reduce weight, but can lead to inadequate nutrition and potentially negative health consequences. This meta-analysis aims to evaluate VLCD effect on weight loss and overall health outcomes. Method: Data were sourced from research journal articles in databases like Crossref, PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect, published within the last 10 years either Indonesian or English language. Only studies involving adult subjects with minimum overweight nutrition status (BMI > 23 kg/m2) were included. Result: Ten from 1063 studies qualified the selection criteria. VLCD success in weight loss depends on treatment type, duration, physical activity, and genetics. Longer and fewer-calorie VLCDs lead to more significant weight reduction, but maintaining long-term success requires a structured weight management program. VLCD benefits include improved insulin sensitivity, reduced fat, and better heart function, but it may have temporary negative effects on metabolism, aortic elasticity, constipation, sensitivity to cold, headache, and dizziness. Conclusion: VLCDs can be an effective approach in achieving significant weight reduction and positive health outcomes, especially if combined with long-term weight maintenance programs and appropriate follow-up treatment. However, the decision to undergo VLCD should be made with wisely considering individual health conditions and in consultation with dietitian or health professionals, as there are potential side effects and factors that may influence long-term success.
