Abstract

Using sophisticated technology in EFL has been a source of considerable debate. As a part of the Web 2.0 movement, Prezi lets users generate, produce, and preserve virtual demonstrations. While a substantial study has been conducted on the benefits and downsides of utilizing Prezi presentations, there is scarce research on students' experiences with using Prezi. The study aims to look at pupils' perspectives on using Prezi in learning English to fill the gap. Twenty students from a private secondary school in Mojokerto, Indonesia, were examined. This exploratory qualitative case study used a purposive sampling strategy. They answered ten interview questions, which the researchers examined using content analysis. The findings revealed that students' experiences using Prezi and making Prezi demonstrations could be divided into four primary topics: serviceability, effectiveness, design, and hindrances. Using Prezi, students experienced producing more interactive visuals for their production than standard PowerPoint slides. In line with this study, Prezi's revolutionary features transform the report from a monotonous and direct way into a fascinating, stunning, practical, and nonlinear style. The findings of this study, in practice, demand the implementation of academic tutorials for classroom teachers to construct their core principles of teaching utilizing the Prezi presentation.

Abstract

Background: Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) are pathogenic microorganisms causing inflammation and imbalanced gut microflora that may result in diarrhea. Pediococcus pentosaceus (P. pentosaceus) isolated from “dadih” (milk curd) are used as probiotics containing lactic acid bacteria (LAB), which are useful to improve the balance of intestinal microflora and inhibit the growth of pathogenic microorganisms. This study was aimed to recognize the effect of P. pentosaceus supplementation on stool frequency, tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and gut microflora balance in experimental mice with EPEC-induced diarrhea. Method: The study was conducted in 60 white mice (Mus muscullus) at Biomedical Laboratory, Biotechnology/Production and Animal Husbandry Technology Institute, University of Andalas, Padang in April 2012. The frequency of stool, TNF-α level and microflora balance of the mice were measured before and after the EPEC-induced diarrhea and following the administration of antibiotics. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA and Duncan test. Results: The highest mean stool frequency was found in positive control group, i.e. 55 times, which was reduced significantly after 12-hour P. pentosaceus supplementation in a dose of 2 x 108 cfu/g into 18 times. The mean TNF-α level in positive control group was 128.17 pg/mL that lowered significantly to 48.0 pg/mL. The highest mean total number of LAB was 97.0 x 107 cfu/g, which was significantly different from positive control group of 7 x 107 cfu/g. Conclusion: P. pentosaceus supplementation in a dose of 2 x 108 cfu/g may reduce the stool frequency, lower TNF-α and improve the gut microflora balance following 12-hour supplementation in diarrhea-induced mice. Keywords: Pediococcus pentosaceus, TNF-α, diarrhea, EPEC, gut microflora

Abstract

The growth in the number of movies continues to be experienced every year, making it difficult for users to choose the right movie. The recommender system is an alternative to being able to solve the problem. In many studies, recommender systems have been developed, but in their use, they do not apply intensive interaction between users and the system created. In this study, we developed a chatbot to help implement a movie recommender system that ensures users can interact intensively with the system with natural language. The chatbot was created using Dialog low to enable the system to recognize the natural language. One way to understand a text concept is to find the relationship between the text concepts. Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) can implement this, where LSA has the advantage of extracting a text and making a statistical representation in the form of a term-document matrix (TF-IDF) using a lower dimension (low-rank approximation). Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) can help decompose a large matrix into a matrix with small dimensions to determine a text's overall meaning. The relationship between text concepts with the highest or almost the same probability value can be used as an output to respond to the user. From the test results, the chatbot shows that the match rate between system and user responses is 86%. Thus, the developed chatbot can be used well in providing interactive movie recommendations.

Abstract

The Sumedang Larang Kingdom is one of the kingdoms in Indonesia which was founded by Prabu Tajimalela in 721 AD. The Sumedang Larang Kingdom is known as the national history of Indonesia. Still, most of the current generation does not know the history of the Sumedang Larang Kingdom, especially the younger generation. Therefore, we developed a question-and-answer system to seek information about the Sumedang Larang Kingdom. With the development of information technology, research on question answering systems is applied to research on Biomedical Questions to produce correct answers. Our system will help literacy about the Sumedang Larang Kingdom for the younger generation, especially students, and increase Indonesian cultural assets. The QA system aims to generate and provide precise short answers to user questions by automatically using information extraction and natural language processing methods. To collect and create questions, we use the concept of ontology. In addition, we use the Natural Language Naïve Bayes method to answer user questions. We built a QA system that can help students find information about the history of the Sumedang Larang Kingdom. Based on the accuracy of the results of testing the method we propose. In our evaluation, we involve the Decision Tree method as the base model. We note that the accuracy of the Naïve Bayes method is higher than that of the Decision Tree. The accuracy result of Naïve Bayes at the ratio of 8:2 and 7:3 is 67%, while the Decision Tree is only 56%.

Abstract

Recommender system is widely implemented in various fields. Collaborative Filtering is one of the most used recommender system paradigms because it is easy to use. K-means clustering algorithm is widely use in Collaborative Filtering. This algorithm can predict the item rating that will be given by a user. Rating can be predicted by calculating the average rating of the item. The clustering performance of this algorithm is low because this algorithm selects initial centroid randomly. This causes high errors in the item rating prediction. To obtain lower error, we propose dimensionality reduction with Singular Value Decomposition (SVD). SVD is able to factorize the clustering result data and reduce dimensionality of the data. Dimensionality reduction with SVD can be carried out by removing non-dominant characteristics of the data. This study uses the result of factorization to calculate the similarity between clusters. The value of similarity between clusters is used to predict the rating of an item that will be given by a cluster. The experimental results show that the combined method of K-means and SVD can produces RMSE up to 8.936% lower than the K-means method.

Abstract

In Indonesia, there were many kingdoms in the past, one of which was the Sumedang Larang Kingdom. Sumedang Larang is an Islamic kingdom under the control of the Pajajaran Kingdom. Through history, a nation will be able to recognize the origin of its own nation. Therefore, teaching about history is very important to be instilled from an early age. Through the rapid development of technology, teaching today is not only in the form of formal teaching, but also informal teaching. Nowadays, informal teaching can be done through various media, one of the media that is often used is gadgets. The utilization of gadgets as learning media allows a person to learn independently. One form of history learning by utilizing gadgets can be in the form of a Question Answering System (QAS). QAS allows users to ask questions using natural language and the system will answer the questions. Therefore, our research aims to help introduce the history of the Sumedang Larang kingdom to the public. We build a QAS by utilizing the n-gram model, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) algorithm, and ontology. N-gram is used to cut words/sentences and convert them into a matrix, while MLP is used to classify texts, and ontology is used as knowledge representation. In this study, the system was able to answer 35 questions out of 61 questions, so it had an accuracy of 57.37%.
