Abstract

Unsafe behavior is one factor that can cause workplace accidents. Factors that influence unsafe behavior in workers need to be studied to support work accident prevention efforts. This study aims to determine the relationships between work period and supervision and unsafe behavior among operational workers at PT Bumi Jasa Utama. This study uses a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The population in this study comprised all operational workers at PT Bumi Jasa Utama, and a sample of 51 respondents was selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test at a 95% confidence level (α = 0.05). The results showed that most respondents had a new work period (62.7%), supervision was in the inadequate category (52.9%), and they engaged in unsafe behavior (72.5%). The bivariate analysis showed that work period did not have a significant relationship with unsafe behavior among operational workers at PT Bumi Jasa Utama (p = 0.266). Meanwhile, supervision showed a significant relationship with unsafe behavior (p-value = 0.052, Chi-Square test). This study concluded that supervision was associated with unsafe behavior among PT Bumi Jasa Utama's operational workers, whereas tenure was not significantly associated. Therefore, the company is expected to improve supervision of occupational safety and health (OHS) implementation to minimize unsafe behavior and prevent workplace accidents.

Abstract

Unsafe acts are behaviors of individuals in the workplace that have the potential to cause accidents, both to themselves and others. This type of behavior significantly increases the likelihood of dangerous incidents that can result in serious injury and even death. This study aims to analyze the factors that influence unsafe behavior in workers. The method used is a quantitative, cross-sectional design. The sample was taken by saturation, involving the entire population of 42 workers. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results showed that the variables of OHS training, supervision, knowledge, and tenure had no significant effect on unsafe acts (p> 0.05). In contrast, job fatigue significantly affects unsafe behavior (p ≤ 0.05). Based on these results, companies are expected to develop clear job descriptions aligned with worker competencies and conduct workload analyses to prevent fatigue and reduce the risk of unsafe acts.

Abstract

Purpose: This study analyzes the partial and collective relationships between the dimensions of emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence and nurses’ job satisfaction. Research Method: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional analytical observational design. The sample consisted of 88 nurses from the inpatient ward at Labuang Baji Regional General Hospital in Makassar, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple and multiple linear regression. Results and Discussion: Self-motivation and transcendental awareness are positively associated with job satisfaction. Empathy and critical existential thinking have negative coefficients in the multiple model. However, their directions are opposite to those in the bivariate results, suggesting the possibility of suppression or model instability. The other dimensions do not show significant partial associations. Collectively, all dimensions are significantly related to job satisfaction and account for 56.8% of its variance, though causality cannot be established. Implications: Hospitals can integrate the development of spiritual motivation and capacity into professional training programs, along with improvements in working conditions. Multicenter, longitudinal studies with construct validation and control for confounding factors are needed. Originality: This study examines, in an integrated manner, the relationship between nine emotional and spiritual dimensions and job satisfaction among nurses in public hospitals.
