Abstract

ABSTRACT. Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) prevalence ofpregnant women is 16% and this would have consequence of risk during delivery and  nutritional status of the children. The aims ofthis study was to measure the effect ofiodized oil and beta carotene on the nutritional, iodine and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) status of pregnant women and to determine nutrition, iodine and cyanide intakes from food consumed by pregnant women. Research design ofthe study was quasi experiment. Pregnant women on the first trimester were chosen and divided into three groups. The first group was given iodized oil at 200mg iodine, the second group was treated with iodized oil at 30mg iodine every month for 6 months, and the third group was given as group 2 plus beta-carotene at 30mg each month for six months. Data collected were nutrients, iodine, and cyanide intake from food consumed and the parameter measured were serum TSH, urine iodine excretion (UIE), body weight and upper arm circumference. Chi Square, ANOVA and Kruskall Wallis were applied for statistical analysis. Iodine consumed by pregnant women was closed to the recommended daily allowance (RDA). iodized oil supplement could increase the UIE for 2 times at trimester 3 ofthe pregnancy. Furthermore, the treatment could redure the TSH value during pregnancy. The supplement could supply iodine during pregnancy. Keywords: iodine, hipothyroid, beta caroten, nutritional status

Abstract

ABSTRACT. The objetive of this study was to evaluate the effect offeeding with multimicronutrients fortified foods on anemia status and weight gain ofpregnan womrql. This study was carried out in three sub-districts in Bogor, i. e.: Leuwiliang, Leuwisadeng and Ciampea. A double blind randomized control trial was assigned on this study. About 210 pregnant women from these sub-districts were selected for this study and devided into 2groups, (1) 70 pregnant women received fortified foods with multi-micronutrients i.e. iron, iodine, zinc, folic acid, vitamin C, and vitamin A, and (2) 70 pregnant mothers received nonfortifiedfoods, each for 6 mounths. Product chosen as intervention carrier consisted of vermicelli, milk, and biscuit. Distribution ofproducts were carried out every week to thetarget pregnant women. The results of the study showed: (a) intervention could reduce prevalence ofanemia as much as 28% compared with placebo (b) Intervention affected the micronutrients consumption andfulfilled: iron 55,5% RDA, vitamin A 65% RDA, vitamin C 126% RDA, folat 15,3% RDA, zinc 26,7% RDA, iodium 26,3%, (c) intervention didn'tinfluence weight gain during pregnancy.

Abstract

Diabetes melitus gestasional (DMG) merupakan intoleransi glukosa pada berbagai tingkatan yang terjadi selama kehamilan. DMG pada wanita meningkatkan risiko kematian sebelum kelahiran pada ibu dan bayinya, tingkat kesakitan pada ibu dan meningkatkan risiko berkembangnya DM tipe-2 setelah melahirkan. Penggunaan hewan coba alternatif dengan metode yang tepat dalam penelitian DMG dengan pendekatan DM tipe-2 telah banyak dilakukan dan cukup mendesak. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah induksi Streptozotocin-sukrosa dapat menghasilkan DM tipe-2 pada tikus yang dapat digunakan sebagai pendekatan dalam penelitian DMG. Peneltian ini bersifat eksperimental, tikus Sprague Dawley jantan berjumlah 45 ekor berusia 6 minggu dialokasikan pada 2 kelompok: kontrol (n=5) dan diabetes (n=40). Kelompok kontrol diinjeksi secara intraperitoneal dengan phosphat buffer saline (PBS) tanpa sukrosa dan kelompok diabetes diinjeksi secara intraperitonela dengan streptozotocin (STZ) dosis 40 mg/kg berat badan dan diberikan 30% sukrosa secaraad libitum, pengukuran glukosa darah puasa dan berat badan dilakukan tiap 3 hari. Setelah minggu ke-4 perlakuan, terdapat 24 tikus pada kelompok diabetes dengan glukosa darah puasa diatas 126 mg/dL dan menunjukkan perbedaan signifikan glukosa darah (p<0.05)dan peningkatan berat badan (p<0.05) dibandingkan dengan kelompok kontrol. Induksi STZ-sukrosa dapat menghasilkan DM tipe-2 pada tikusSprague dawley Jantan dan dapat digunakan sebagai pendekatan peneltian DMG.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus tipe 2 merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan dunia. Berdasarkan survei Riskesdas 2013, prevalensi dari diabetes melitus tipe 2 di Indonesia pada usia 15 tahun atau lebih adalah 6.9%. Prevalensiyang tinggi dapat dipicu oleh diet yang kurang sehat dan rendahnya aktivitas fisik. Kromium dalam hal ini sebagai mineral mikro yang memiliki peran dalam menjaga homeostasis glukosa darah diduga memiliki fungsi dalam meningkatkan respon insulin. Penelitan ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara aktivitas fisik, tingkat kecukupan energi dan zat gizi, dengan kadar glukosa darah puasa dan HbA1c. Desain penelitian ini adalah survei potong lintang dengan subjek penyandang diabetes tipe 2 sebanyak 42 orang dan subjek normal sebanyak 49 orang. Kriteria inklusi adalah pria atau wanita normal atau penyandang diabetes usia 50-65 tahun, sudah menopause untuk wanita minimal 1 tahun, dan bersedia mengikuti penelitian dengan menandatangani informed concent. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Cr serum darah pada penyandang diabetes lebih rendah dibandingkan pada subjek normal. Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan antara HbA1c dengan IMT, lingkar pinggang, aktivitas fisik, Cr serum darah, dan tingkat kecukupan serat. Tingkat kecukupan Cr berpengaruh signifikan terhadap HbA1c. Tingkat Cr serum HbA1C (r = -0.466, p<0.01). kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah rendahnya tingkat Cr serum darah diduga menjadi salah satu penyebab berkembangnya diabetes mellitus tipe 2.

Abstract

Provision of food in dormitories is generally limited due to cost problems so students are vulnerable tomalnutrition. Iron deficiency in adolescents can cause anemia. This study aimed to evaluate effect of lunch programon food intake, anemia status and nutritional behaviour for female students at the Darusalam Islamic BoardingSchool Bogor. This study was a pre-experiment with one group design before intervention. Selected subjectswere 54 students given interventions of adding protein and fruit at lunch and nutrition education for 15 weeks.Nutrition education delivered by the teacher and refreshment material by nutrition students. The results showedenergy, protein, fat, carbohydrate, fiber, calcium, zinc, iron and Vitamin C increased in lunch intake and differedsignificantly from before intervention (p<0.05). Nutritional status (BMI/U) increased and differed significantlybefore and after the intervention (p<0.05). The proportion of anemia status increased to be better and significantlyhigher than the comparison but increased hemoglobin levels of 0.14±1.12 g/dl have not been able to provide asignificant average hemoglobin level (p>0.05). Knowledge and nutritional attitudes of students about anemia weresignificantly different between before and after intervention (p<0.05).

Abstract

Dried yogurt is one of yogurt product development innovations. Beside increases the shelf life, dried yogurt is also ore practical because it reduces the volume to the easier distribution process. Dried yogurt enriched by Difructose Anhydride III as functional food in increasing calcium absorption is useful as osteoporosis prevention. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of dried yogurt enriched by DFA III from dahlia and chicory tubers as functional drink on physicochemical, microbiology, and organoleptic properties. The research stages include: (1) The production of dried yogurt without enrichment (Y), with DFA III enrichment from dahlia tubers (YD), and with DFA III commercial enrichment from chicory tubers (YC), (2) The test for physicochemical, microbiology, and organoleptic properties.The results showed that the purity level of DFA III from dahlia tubers was 96.0% and commercial DFA III from chicory tubers was 99.9%. The best results were obtained from the dried yogurt enriched by DFA III from dahlia which produced yield of 14.90±1.27%  and dried yogurt enriched by DFA III from chicory tubers (YC) which produced yield of 14.71±1.69% (p<0.05). YD product had  moisture content of 7.89±0.01%; ash content of 3.43±0.06%; protein content of 12.43±0.13%; fat content of 1.22±0.07%; carbohydrate content of 75.02±0.10%; pH/acidity of 3.9±0.00; acidity as lactic acid of 0.49±0.02%; whiteness degree of 89.29±0.08%; and lactic acid bacteria viability of 1.20x10 levels got like preference, while for  texture and taste level got  medium-like preference. Dried yogurt enriched by DFA III from dahlia tubers could improve the viability of lactic acid bacteria as probiotic. It means that the dried yogurt prevention.ABSTRAKYoghurt keringmerupakan salah satu inovasi pengembangan produk yoghurt. Yoghurt kering dapat meningkatkan daya simpan yoghurt serta lebih praktis karena mengurangi volume sehingga lebih memudahkan dalam proses distribusi. Pengayaan yoghurt kering dengan III sebagai pangan fungsional yang berperan dalam meningkatkan penyerapan kalsium bermanfaat sebagai pencegahan terhadap osteoporosis. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis karakteristik yoghurt kering yang diperkaya dengan DFA III dari umbi dahlia dan umbi meliputi: (1) proses pembuatan yoghurt kering tanpa pengayaan (Y), diperkaya dengan DFA III dari umbi dahlia (YD), dan diperkaya dengan DFA III komersial dari umbi organoleptik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat kemurnian DFA III dari umbi dahlia 96,0% dan DFA III komersial dari umbi 99,9%. Hasil terbaik diperoleh dari yoghurt kering yang diperkaya dengan DFA III dari umbi dahlia (YD) menghasilkan rendemen 17,83±0,36% lebih tinggi secara nyata dibandingkan dengan tanpa pengayaan (Y) 14,90±1,27% dan pengayaan dengan DFA III dari umbi  (YC) 14,71±1,69% (p<0,05). Produk YD mengandung kadar air 7,89±0,01%; kadar abu 3,43±0,06%; kadar protein 12,43±0,13%; kadar lemak 1,22±0,07%; kadar karbohidrat 75,02±0,10%; pH/derajat keasaman 3,9±0,00; keasaman sebagai asam laktat 0,49±0,02%; derajat putih 89,29±0,08%; dan viabilitas bakteri asam laktat 1,20x107cfu.g-1. Pengujian organoleptik menggunakan 40 panelis semi terlatih, dengan hasil penilaian untuk aroma dan warna menunjukkan kriteria suka, untuk tekstur dan rasa menunjukkan kriteria agak suka. Yoghurt kering yang diperkaya dengan DFA III dari umbi dahlia yang bersifat prebiotik dapat meningkatkan viabilitas bakteri asam laktat sebagai probiotik yang menunjukkan bahwa produk tersebut dapat digolongkan sebagai produk sinbiotik dan dapat digunakan sebagai minuman fungsional untuk meningkatkan penyerapan kalsium sebagai pencegahan terhadap osteoporosis.

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the high cholesterol diet effect of egg yolk powder toward the increase of blood cholesterol and body weight in male New Zealand White rabbit and learned their liver histophatology figure. The experimental studies with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) used 13 male New Zealand White rabbit aged 6 – 7 months and weight 2,9 – 4,0 kg. Rabbit were divided into 3 groups: group 0 (n=4) given the standard feed, group 1 (n=4) given high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder, and group 2 (n=5) given high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder and red palm oil mix. The intervention was implemented for 8 weeks after 4 weeks adaptation period. The results showed that intervention of high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder significantly increased levels of serum cholesterol and fatty liver, but did not significantly affect body weight of male New Zealand White rabbit.

Abstract

Adolescent girls are vulnerable group to anemia. Students who live in dormitories tend to have less intake that can cause iron defi ciency. This study aimed to determine the risk factors of anemia among female students in the Darusalam Islamic Boarding School Bogor. This was an observational study with a cross sectional design. Subjects were 84 female students who selected purposively by inclusion and exclusion criteria. Anemic status was determined by measuring hemoglobin levels with HemoCue 301. Data on subjects characteristics, health status, menstrual status, skipping meal behavior collected by questionnaire. Level knowledge, attitudes and nutrition practices related to anemia assessed by of fi ve questions for each indicators. Nutritional status is assessed based on BMI/A indicator. The intake data was obtained by the 2×24 hour food record method collected by questionnaires. Statistical analysis using chi-square test and logistic regression. Students with mild anemia were 38.1%, while 20.2% had moderate anemia. Intake of energy, protein, iron, vitamin C were inadequate. The results of bivariate analysis showed that skipping meals were signifi cantly associated with anemia status (p=0.007; OR 4.0; 95% CI 1.4-11.4). Nutritional attitudes also had a signifi cant relationship with anemia status (p=0.048; OR 2.6; 95% CI 1.0-6.6). The results of the logistic regression test showed that the variables associated with anemia were skipping meals (p=0.024; OR 3.5; 95% CI 1.0-11.8). Islamic boarding schools are expected to provide balanced healthy and nutritious food and provide nutrition education so it can support the improvement of student’s health status.

Abstract

Smoking can enhance free radicals on blood plasma. Many previous studies proved that tea is a source of antioxidants which might reduce free radicals. Green tea is known to have the higher antioxidant capacity compared to black tea. This study aims to analyze the effect of green tea on reduction of free radicals on moderate smokers, using a pre-post experimental design. Green tea infusions were prepared with commercially available dried tea leaves (Green Tea Gamboeng Series) from the Research Centers of Tea and Cinchona Gambung, West Java. Nine moderate smokers (11-21 cig/day) aged 30-45 years were instructed to drink 200 ml green tea three times a day for four weeks. Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) of blood serum was measured at baseline and after four weeks intervention period. The level of TAC significantly increased from 1.18 m mol/L to 1.34 m mol/L after four weeks intervention (P=0.000). These results prove that drinking 200 ml of green tea three times a day for four weeks has a significant benefit reducing free radicals of moderate smokers. Moderate smokers are advised to consume green tea continuously to sustain these positive effects.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to determine the calcium balance in undernourished rats fed with inulin-enriched MOCAF-based diet. Twenty-seven Sprague Dawley male rats at post-weaning age were classified into 1 normal control groups and 8 undernourished groups. The undernourished rats were conditioned for one month then followed by intervention with MOCAF-based diet for another one month. Calcium analysis was performed on the urine, feces, and tibial bones of rats.  Data of calcium were processed using One Way Anova test followed by Post Hoc Duncan to determine mean differences between groups. The results showed that calcium absorption, calcium retention, and calcium bioavailability between groups differed significantly (p0.05). The highest calcium absorption and calcium retention were found in the protein-energy-deficient rats fed Manggu MOCAF with inulin (KEP M2 = 97.47 ± 0.39% and 97.4 ± 0.4%) respectively. Bioavailability of calcium was higher in the group of undernourished rats fed with MOCAF-based diet. The highest level of calcium of the tibia was found in the protein-deficient rats fed Mentega MOCAF with inulin (KP T2 = 41.1 ± 3.59%) and was significantly different (p0.05) from the protein-energy-deficient rats fed Manggu MOCAF without inulin group (KEP M1= 25.7 ± 6.71%). This study concluded that inulin-enriched MOCAF-based diet could improve the calcium balance in undernourished rats.   AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian diet berbasis MOCAF diperkaya inulin terhadap efektivitas penyerapan kalsium pada model tikus kurang gizi. Sebanyak 27 tikus jantan galur Sprague Dawley usia lepas masa sapih dikelompokkan menjadi 9 kelompok, yaitu 1 kelompok kontrol normal dan 8 kelompok tikus kurang gizi. Pembuatan model tikus kurang gizi selama satu bulan dan dilanjutkan intervensi dengan diet berbasis MOCAF selama satu bulan. Analisis kalsium dilakukan pada urin, feses, dan tulang tibia tikus. Data kalsium diolah menggunakan ANOVA dilanjutkan dengan Post Hoc Duncan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan daya serap kalsium, retensi kalsium dan bioavailabilitas kalsium antar kelompok berbeda secara signifikan (p0,05). Daya serap dan retensi kalsium tertinggi terdapat pada kelompok tikus kurang energi protein yang diberi diet MOCAF manggu dengan inulin (KEP M2 = 97,47 ± 0,39% dan 97,4 ± 0,4%). Bioavailabilitas kalsium lebih tinggi pada kelompok tikus kurang gizi yang diberi diet berbasis MOCAF. Kadar kalsium tulang tibia paling tinggi terdapat pada kelompok tikus kurang protein yang diberi diet MOCAF mentega dengan inulin (KP T2= 41,1 ± 3,59 %) dan berbeda signifikan dengan kelompok tikus kurang energi protein yang diberi diet MOCAF Manggu tanpa inulin (KEP M1=25,7 ± 6,71 %). Disimpulkan bahwa diet berbasis MOCAF dengan inulin dapat membantu penyerapan kalsium pada tikus kurang gizi.
