Abstract

This study investigates challenges in the basic music theory course within the Music Education Study Program at STKIP Citra Bakti, focusing on identifying key learning issues and analyzing student reflections on the course experience. A descriptive approach with a survey method was employed. Data collection included questionnaires and interviews, and analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's model, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The findings categorize the primary challenges in basic music theory learning into eight areas: (1) Student Characteristics, (2) Learning Attitudes, (3) Motivation, (4) Media/Teaching Materials, (5) Instructor Influence, (6) Family Support, (7) Social Environment, and (8) Infrastructure. Notably, 93.3% of students cited media and teaching materials as a significant issue, while 90% pointed to inadequate infrastructure as a key barrier to effective learning. The analysis highlights a critical need to improve media and teaching materials, as well as infrastructure, to enhance learning experiences. Addressing these issues may foster better engagement and understanding in basic music theory. The study underscores the importance of prioritizing resource allocation for teaching materials and facilities in the Music Education program. Future research should explore strategies to strengthen student interaction with learning materials and promote collaboration between educational institutions and resource providers to support music theory education effectively.

Abstract

This study examines the role of the Gawang Angklung (Galung) application, a visual-based digital tool integrating traditional angklung music with interactive visual cues, in supporting inclusive music education for deaf learners. Designed to bridge the gap between sound-based musical instruction and the learning needs of students with hearing impairments, Galung enables ensemble participation through synchronized visual signals. Using a convergent mixed-methods design, data were collected from 24 deaf students, four music educators, and two application developers through interviews, classroom observations, and questionnaires. Quantitative results showed significant improvements in rhythmic accuracy (p < .01) and tempo recognition, while qualitative analysis revealed increased motivation, collaborative engagement, and communicative confidence. The integration of Galung aligns with constructivist and aesthetic learning principles, offering a multisensory, culturally grounded approach to music instruction. Despite its benefits, challenges were identified, including teacher training needs and technical limitations. This study highlights the potential of culturally embedded, visually adaptive technologies to promote inclusivity, accessibility, and active participation in arts education, while contributing to the broader discourse on equitable learning opportunities for students with disabilities.

Abstract

This research aims to develop a learning evaluation design for ensemble musical instruments based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) using the Quizizz application at MTS 2 Negeri Medan. The background of the problem faced is the use of conventional evaluation methods that are less effective in measuring students' critical thinking abilities. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive design, involving validation from subject matter experts and media experts, as well as a usability test involving 32 students. The results indicate that the developed evaluation design meets the feasibility criteria with an average score of 4.0 from subject matter experts and 4.7 from media experts, as well as an average score of 4.5 from the usability test, indicating that the Quizizz application can enhance student motivation and engagement in learning. The discussion emphasizes the importance of integrating technology in learning evaluation to create an interactive and engaging learning experience. The conclusion of this research is that the HOTS-based evaluation design developed is feasible to implement and can improve the quality of ensemble musical instrument learning, as well as provide recommendations for the application of similar methods in other schools and further research on the use of technology in education.

Abstract

Musik memiliki peran penting dalam pendidikan, namun banyak guru di sekolah dasar menghadapi kesulitan dalam mengimplementasikan strategi kreasi musik yang efektif di kelas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan dan menguji strategi kreasi musik sederhana menggunakan media digital, khususnya Song Maker dari Chrome Music Lab, yang dapat diakses oleh guru untuk meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan analisis dokumen. Teknik analisis data akan dilakukan dengan pendekatan analisis tematik untuk data kualitatif dan analisis statistik deskriptif untuk data kuantitatif Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan strategi ini tidak hanya meningkatkan keterampilan musik siswa, tetapi juga memperkuat kemampuan kognitif, sosial, dan emosional mereka. Siswa menunjukkan peningkatan dalam kerjasama, disiplin, dan rasa tanggung jawab, serta kemampuan mendengarkan dan konsentrasi yang lebih baik. Pentingnya pengalaman langsung dalam pembelajaran musik dan bagaimana strategi yang dikembangkan dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam kurikulum secara praktis. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menginspirasi lebih banyak guru untuk mengadopsi pendekatan kreatif dalam pengajaran musik, sehingga siswa dapat merasakan manfaat holistik dari pendidikan musik.

Abstract

Era globalisasi masa kini menuntut peserta didik untuk dapat menggunakan teknologi. Pemanfaatan teknologi di bidang Pendidikan dapat meningkatkan efisiensi dan efektivitas pembelajaran, terutama dalam melestarikan alat musik tradisional. Pengembangan aplikasi pembelajaran berbasis Augmented Reality (AR) diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah inovatif dalam upaya pelestarian alat musik tradisional Gayo yang bersifat sementara dalam pembelajaran di SMA Negeri 1 Takengon. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, observasi, studi pustaka dan metode pengembangan sistem model prototype ini terfokus sampai pada langkah ketiga, yaitu communication, quick plan dan modelling quick design. Metode yang digunakan dalam Augmented Reality berbasis markerbased. Diharapkan aplikasi ini dapat menjadi sarana untuk memperkenalkan alat musik tradisional gayo di masa depan dan pengembangan aplikasi pembelajaran berbasis AR diharapkan dapat menjadi langkah inovatif dalam pelestarian alat musik tradisional Gayo dalam pembelajaran di SMA Negeri 1 Takengon, sehingga dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar siswa dan membantu guru dalam proses pembelajaran dengan penerapan P5 berbasis kearifan lokal.

Abstract

Pupuh sebagai warisan sastra dan seni vokal Sunda menghadapi tantangan keberlanjutan akibat menurunnya minat generasi muda, sehingga diperlukan strategi pembelajaran yang relevan dalam pendidikan formal. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji proses dan efektivitas pelatihan nembang Pupuh Dangdanggula berbasis metode demonstrasi dan teknik ngabeo pada siswa SMP Pasundan 1 Cimahi dalam persiapan Festival Tunas Bahasa Ibu (FTBI) 2025. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi demonstrasi, teknik ngabeo, dan notasi sederhana secara signifikan meningkatkan penguasaan melodi, ketepatan ornamentasi vokal (dongkari), ekspresi musikal, serta kepercayaan diri siswa, yang tercermin dalam capaian Juara Harapan I pada lomba FTBI. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa pembelajaran berbasis transmisi lisan yang dipadukan dengan strategi pedagogis terstruktur efektif untuk materi pupuh yang bersifat kompleks. Penelitian ini berkontribusi pada pengembangan model pelatihan pupuh yang kontekstual dan adaptif dengan menjembatani tradisi lisan Sunda dan pembelajaran seni di sekolah formal, sehingga memperkuat posisi pupuh sebagai praktik pedagogis yang berkelanjutan.

Abstract

Pendidikan musik berperan penting dalam mendukung perkembangan motorik halus dan konsentrasi anak usia sekolah dasar, salah satunya melalui pembelajaran biola yang menuntut koordinasi tangan kanan dan kiri secara presisi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji proses pembelajaran teknik dasar bowing dan fingering, kemampuan siswa dalam menerapkan kedua teknik tersebut, serta kendala dan faktor pendukung yang muncul dalam konteks pendidikan musik nonformal. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dan dokumentasi terhadap pengajar dan peserta didik di Purwacaraka Musik Studio Mangga. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran bowing dan fingering dilaksanakan secara bertahap melalui pengenalan instrumentasi, pembiasaan posisi tubuh dan bow, serta latihan teknik dasar yang terstruktur dengan mengacu pada Suzuki Violin Book Grade I. Temuan utama mengindikasikan bahwa kestabilan bowing dan ketepatan fingering merupakan tantangan utama bagi anak usia sekolah dasar, terutama pada aspek kontrol gesekan dan intonasi, namun dapat diatasi melalui strategi pedagogis yang menekankan latihan refleks, pengulangan bertahap, dan penyesuaian pembelajaran sesuai kemampuan individu siswa. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa pendekatan pedagogis yang sistematis dan adaptif dalam pembelajaran biola tidak hanya berkontribusi pada penguasaan teknik bermain, tetapi juga mendukung perkembangan motorik halus dan disiplin belajar anak, sehingga memperkaya kajian pedagogi musik anak dalam konteks pendidikan non-formal.

Abstract

The drill method has long been employed in music education, yet its pedagogical relevance remains debated due to its association with mechanical repetition and limited musical meaning. This study aims to re-examine the role of the drill method in music learning by synthesising pedagogical perspectives, instructional practices, and reported learning outcomes within existing scholarly literature. A qualitative literature review design was employed, involving systematic database searching, study selection based on predefined inclusion criteria, and thematic analysis of selected studies. Data were analysed using a structured analytical framework through coding, categorisation, and cross-study comparison to identify recurring pedagogical patterns and reported learning outcomes. The reviewed studies indicate that drill-based practice consistently supports technical stability, musical accuracy, notation literacy, and performance consistency across diverse educational contexts. However, its effectiveness is strongly dependent on instructional design and pedagogical integration. Drill contributes to meaningful musical development when aligned with clear objectives, guided feedback, and interpretative engagement, but becomes limited when applied as isolated repetition. This study positions drill as a foundational pedagogical strategy that supports progressive musical learning rather than as a purely mechanical method.

Abstract

Purpose: This article aims to describe the idea of designing learning video products related to the material "Knowing Pulse, Tempo, and Note Values in Music" The aim being pursued is to bridge teachers in carrying out the process of learning arts and culture (music), the material being concentrated is related to the time element (rhythm). Rhythm, which contains pulses, tempos and note values, is seen as the essential foundation where the orientation will later be related to music learning, both from a scientific and practical point of view. So the urgency of the media that is carried out considers aspects that support the effectiveness of learning. Method: In this writing, the research model used is Research and Development (R&D) with the 4D approach, which Thiagarajan pioneered. Product development has been in the 2D (Design) stage. Where the media offered is based on research results or observations at the primary level in music learning, then media development is based on selecting the type of media to be developed. Considering the internet access that can be reached from anywhere and anytime, the authors chose learning videos as a product so that later they can be disseminated to teachers who will carry out rhythm-related learning. Result and Discussion: The learning video requires sound, image and movement components to be combined simultaneously to bridge the basic foundation in recognizing time elements in music; the speed chosen is at a tempo of 60 Bpm.

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of the phenomenon of music intervention on children's language skills. Music interventions are commonly used for children with special needs, but there are advantages to using music as a medium of intervention for children in general. Method: Systematic literature review is the method in this research with the SPIDER strategy. Result and Discussion: The results found eight selected studies that were relevant to the inclusion criteria. The samples were early childhood and elementary school-aged children whose interest phenomenon included musical activities such as listening and singing songs. The interventions were conducted with various designs and evaluations, and the selected research types covered both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Conclusion: This research implies that the overall research in the intervention can improve children's ability in language. It is expected to be a reference, reference, and comprehensive understanding for educators to conduct music interventions for children's language skills.
