Abstract

Indonesia continues to face a triple burden of nutritional challenges, including stunting, wasting, and obesity. Adolescents represent a nutritionally vulnerable population due to factors such as lifestyle choices, inadequate nutritional knowledge, and unhealthy dietary habits. These factors contribute to nutritional problems such as anemia, chronic energy deficiency (CED), and obesity. Objective: This study aims to analyze the consumption patterns of animal-based side dishes and assess the nutritional status of female students at SMP Negeri 9 Kendari. Methodology: This descriptive study included a total population of 614 female students, with a sample of 35 selected using a cluster random sampling method. Data were collected from one randomly selected class. Results: Findings revealed that 62.8% of the respondents were classified as thin or severely thin, 28.6% had normal nutritional status, and 8.6% were obese. The consumption pattern of animal-based side dishes showed that most types were rarely consumed, with fish being the most commonly consumed source of animal protein, reported by 48.5% of respondents (17 students). Conclusion: The study concludes that the consumption of animal protein among the respondents is considerably low, and the majority of the students exhibit nutritional statuses classified as thin or severely thin (62.8%).

Abstract

Based on the 2019 Indonesian Health Profile, 67.74% of babies in Indonesia received exclusive breast milk, exceeding the target of 50%, while in Southeast Sulawesi Province, the figure reached 66.81%. Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, it was recorded that 28.2% of babies in Southeast Sulawesi aged 0-23 months received prelacteal food, with formula milk as the most common type (85.6%) and coconut water the least (0.3% ). This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design and purposive sampling technique. The total research sample was 25 respondents, namely mothers who have toddlers and live in the Lalodati Village area, Kendari City. The research method was carried out through lectures supported by poster media, with data collection using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The research results showed an increase in the average level of maternal knowledge as measured through the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test results, 13 respondents (52.0%) were in the sufficient category, while 12 respondents (48.0%) were in the poor category. Meanwhile, in the post-test results, 21 respondents (84.0%) were in the sufficient category, and 4 respondents (16.0%) were in the insufficient category. The t-test statistical test shows p-value (0.000) < (0.05), with an average pre-test score of 7.00 and post-test of 9.36. This shows that the education program was successful in increasing mothers' knowledge about prelacteal feeding

Abstract

Previous studies on iron supplementation programs have largely focused on policy outcomes and national strategies, often overlooking the implementation dynamics at the primary healthcare level. This study addresses this gap by evaluating the implementation of the Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD) program at the Benu-Benua Health Center in Kendari City, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, recordings, and documentation involving nine purposively selected informants, including health center staff and beneficiaries. Thematic content analysis was applied through stages of data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that although inputs such as human resources, funding from the Health Operational Assistance (BOK), and educational media are available, no specific training was provided to program implementers. SOPs exist but are not visibly posted, and coordination between stakeholders remains suboptimal. The process revealed that TTD planning and implementation were based on standard targets, but monitoring and recording were weak, leading to challenges in tracking outcomes. Output analysis showed that while pregnant women generally received TTD, distribution among adolescents was inconsistent, and consumption compliance was low. These results underscore the need for improved training, monitoring mechanisms, and cross-sectoral collaboration. Strengthening these areas is crucial for enhancing the impact of iron supplementation programs and supporting public health efforts to reduce stunting and anemia.

Abstract

Abstract

The rising number of obesity cases among children and adolescents has become a significant public health concern. One contributing factor is the lack of understanding about balanced eating patterns. This community engagement activity aimed to increase public knowledge about the importance of the Isi Piringku (My Plate) concept in preventing obesity, using animated video-based educational media. The educational video was disseminated online through social media platforms Instagram and Facebook. Respondents who accessed the video were asked to complete a post-test and provide feedback via Google Forms. Results showed that out of 117 respondents, the majority stated that the video was easy to understand and improved their knowledge of healthy eating patterns. The highest user interaction was recorded on Instagram, with 190 likes, 69 comments, 11 shares, and 1,500 views. This activity demonstrates that social media can serve as an effective tool for nutrition education, capable of reaching a wide audience efficiently.

Abstract

The target of at least 80% coverage of exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged 0-6 months is still difficult to achieve. This causes exclusive breastfeeding tends to decrease from year to year. This study aims to determine the behavior of exclusive breastfeeding in the working area of the Jati Raya Community Health Center, Kendari City. The method used in this study is a qualitative phenomenological approach. The research was carried out in the working area of the Jati Raya Health Center. Research informants were mothers who had babies aged between 7-24 months and stakeholders of the Exclusive Breastfeeding program at the Jati Raya Health Center. The sampling technique was carried out by purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews. In-depth interviews were conducted with 6 informants consisting of 6 mothers who had babies aged 7-24 months and 2 stakeholders of the Exclusive Breastfeeding program. Data analysis using Content Analysis. The results showed that the mother's behavior in exclusive breastfeeding was quite good. This happens because of the many influencing factors including attitudes, subjective norms (health workers, family support), perceptions of control and good intentions of mothers in giving exclusive breastfeeding to their babies. Conclusion: Attitudes, subjective norms and perceptions of behavioral control are collectively associated with behavioral intentions and intentions are direct antecedents of exclusive breastfeeding behavior. Suggestion: increasing the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding programs can be done by helping to improve positive attitudes, changing subjective norms to support exclusive breastfeeding, improving perceived behavioral control, and strengthening intentions to give exclusive breastfeeding
