Abstract

In a debt contract for a large nominal amount, there is a guarantee objects for which the debtor is responsible for the loan received from the creditor, one of the objects is land rights. Creditor often take a shortcut to execute collateral assets through the use of land rights sale and purchase contract procedures when debtor is unable to pay their debts, the establishment of the sale-purchase agreement was made with unbalanced circumstances between the parties. In Indonesia there are no legal regulations about the abuse of circumstances as a form of defect in the will of an agreement, therefore the debtor in forming a land rights sale and purchase agreement also does not get legal protection from legal regulations.

Abstract

Speaking and writing skills are essential for madrasah students, as both play a crucial role in forming practical communication skills. In the context of madrasah education, where students not only study general subjects but also religious studies, having good speaking and writing skills will help them convey their ideas and understanding more clearly and precisely. This helps build self-confidence and interpersonal skills that are important in everyday life. The application of role-play is carried out not only in exact subjects but also in English language learning. The role-play environment creates a meaningful context that allows students to learn English in situations that resemble the real world. Cutting-edge technology, such as interactive, spherical video-based virtual reality (ISVVR), can be used in English language learning. Apart from being a way to overcome time constraints, ISVVR media can enrich learning resources and space for practice. This research aims to test the effect of applying role-play assisted by ISVVR and Learning Styles as moderator variables to improve English speaking and writing performance. This research used a quasi-experiment with Pre-test and Post-test Control Group Design. The participants used were 92 class XII students at MAN 5 Jombang using 2x3 factorial Manova analysis. The findings in this study were that speaking and writing performance was different between groups of students who applied role-play assisted ISSVR and conventional video and learning styles, but there was no interaction between model and learning style on speaking and writing performance.

Abstract

The idea of autonomous learning is correlated with adult education, therefore, the ETEs views about this idea is being focused to bring about positive academic behaviors for the learners’ successful in language learning and to set autonomous personal quali-ties in terms decision making-ability, learner independency, psychology of learning and level of learner autonomy. With the help of NVivo 12 Software, this qualitative study investigates English teacher educators' (ETEs’) perception on autonomous learning in tertiary level of Riau Province. There were 6 ETEs agreed to be active informants and participated in interviews and observations. Structured interviews were in charge of taking primary data. Meanwhile observations become supportive data. After the data was collected and transcribed, the researchers identify, classify, and categorize the essential data from the interviews, create the coding and run into matrix coding in Nvivo 12 software. The findings inform us that they agreed with the importance of decision making for the EFL learners under the student-centered learner approach; yet, they perceived that learner independency was still low, meanwhile, for the psychology of learning, the ETEs’ still have little attention since  the level of learner autonomy was still lied on the amount of instructions and practices. In sum up, the ETEs' perceived autonomous learning lexically as a life skill that language learners, particularly adult learners should poses as a language learner identity. However, the ETEs’ still insist to assist learners to attain learning success while making them expert in decision- making.

Abstract

Computer and internet technology encourage learners' autonomy by allowing them to choose the time, place, and circumstances conducive to learning (Ayllon et al., 2019; Baseghi, 2018; Rohatgi et al., 2016). The application of digital technology has meaningful connections with developing students' learning autonomy and promoting their skills independently. This research aimed to present meaningful information for the readers about the effectiveness of digital technology in promoting students' autonomous learning by answering the two research questions; what kinds of digital technology's characteristics, and which digital technology condition effectively promotes students' autonomous learning. The Systematical Literature Review includes seven articles selected from 19 articles in Google scholar, 1.215 articles in Science direct, and four articles in Sinta (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6). The reviewed articles indicated seven apps; Schoology, Multimedia-assisted Instruction (MAI), Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), Memrises, Quizlet, Socrative, Sli-do, and Three-Dimensional (3D). The virtual environments allow students to promote their autonomous learning in such conditions as long-distance learning, classroom learning activities, and self-training activities.

Abstract

This article reports the effectiveness of student-initiated media in teaching speaking to ninth graders of a junior high school. Using a pre-experimental design, this study involved 85 students, being given an experimental treatment in the form of a freedom to choose and use their own media to present an English advertisement, one of the basic competences the students had to master in the semester when the data were being collected. A pre-test in the form of oral interview was given at the beginning of the study, followed by the implementation of the research treatment. At the end of the study, the students took a post-test of a similar format. In other words, the data in this study were in the form of the students’ speaking performance. With the help of SPSS, a test was employed to check the effectiveness of the media. Besides, informal interview with the students show that they felt more relaxed and less anxious when using the media while speaking. It is recommended that teachers make use of such media in the classroom for designing democratic classroom atmosphere so that students experience joyful learning and tend to speak more.

Abstract

Learner autonomy has recently been recognised as an essential component of changes in higher education. The word 'LA' can be misunderstood because it may be viewed differently in various settings. Hence, this study explores whether the students at higher levels of education in Indonesia have better perceptions and efforts to enhance their autonomous learning. Questionnaires and interviews were asked with EFL students in collecting the data. The study sample consisted of 95 students randomly selected from FTTE Islamic University of Riau. This study applied a mix-method, and descriptive statistical testing was employed to analyse the data and determine the research questions. NVivo 12 explored how the students perceived the autonomous learning process. The result showed that the EFL learners mostly perceive autonomous learning as independent learning under one’s target, involving personal learning styles and strategies with the teacher's assistance. A significance value (p) was obtained at the time of initiation, monitoring, and evaluation of the data, respectively 0.286; 0.533; 0.744. So, all the p-value was >0.05. It requires no significant effort in initiating, monitoring, and evaluating among different levels. In addition, there was no significant difference between the efforts of the initiating, monitoring, and evaluating activity performed among EFL learners either in the second, fourth, or sixth level. This point is that EFL learners are not independent in selecting when and how to initiate, monitor, and evaluate autonomous learning. So, this fact shows us that the higher semester level did not guarantee better effort toward autonomous learning activities.

Abstract

This study explores patterns of AI-tool utilization among Indonesian EFL students, as preliminary data for assessment-model development. Using a convenience sampling technique, this study involved 208 university students of various year levels. A questionnaire was developed based on technology acceptance model (TAM) frameworks to collect data through Google Form, covering aspects of knowledge and use of AI tools in completing tasks, frequency of AI use and friendliness levels, reasons for using AI tools, ease of using AI tools, and desire to use AI tools. The results reveal that the participants had basic knowledge of AI but a significant number of participants admitted not knowing AI tools, suggesting the need for more education and awareness about AI. Grammarly and Google Translate were the most familiar and frequently used applications. Our findings also reveal strong relationships between perceived ease of use (PEoU) and perceived usefulness (PU) and between PU and technology acceptance (TA), implying how TAM frameworks may predict willingness to use technology-assisted or AI applications and the actual utilization. As most research participants were teacher candidates, it becomes clear that integrating AI-assisted learning content and activities appears essential as their experiences in their teacher education may influence the way they teach in the future.

Abstract

This study investigates students' perceptions about online listening classes utilizing the Revised Community of Inquiry (RCoI) framework. Their perceptions were viewed in relation to gender and the learning system used in online listening classes. This survey involved 97 undergraduate EFL Department English students at a state University in Malang. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of 33 statements with four scales on the Likert scale. The finding showed that the students positively perceived four presences in RCoI. The analysis also reported that male and female students perceived differently among the presences in RCoI. Moreover, Zoom is the most frequently used in online listening classes. Lastly, some recommendations were also made in this study.

Abstract

The amount of research discussing preservice teachers' (PSTs) critical reflection on teaching practicum in transformative learning (TL) within teacher education programs is evident. However, research investigating PSTs' pedagogical competence (PC) and TL through the lens of critical reflection on Indonesian EFL teaching practicum settings is limited. The study aimed to investigate what PSTs learned from critical reflection on a dual online-offline teaching practicum for developing PC and how they performed TL. Ten PSTs engaged in a two-month teaching practicum experience within the English teacher education preparation program of a state university in Central Kalimantan Indonesia were purposely sampled in this case study. Multiple data were garnered through reflective journals and focus group interviews. Data were analyzed deductively and thematically to explore prominent themes. The results shed some light on lessons learned encompassing the instructional practices for PSTs' PC development and their improved PC. PSTs performed TL by boosting students' ability in changing mindsets and thinking habits in learning and making them aware of learning and becoming better learners. The research implication provides empirical evidence pertaining to how critical reflection on the dual online-offline teaching practicum contributes to PSTs' PC development and TL performance for professional development.

Abstract

Teaching English writing skill to Indonesian secondary students encounters many obstacles since English in Indonesia is a foreign language. Elaborating and organizing the ideas in pre-writing activity is one of the problems faced by students. The objective of this study was to examine how the implementation of semantic mapping strategy could enhance the eleventh graders’ writing skill, especially the organization aspect. Semantic mapping strategy was implemented in pre-writing activity since this strategy provides the visual concept of relations of the ideas. Classroom Action Research (CAR) was used as the research design in this study, and the implementation was carried out in three meetings for one cycle through the WhatsApp group. The research subjects were students of XI Science 4 class at SMA Negeri 4 Malang which consisted of 34 students. The results showed that this strategy succeeded in enhancing students’ writing scores in one cycle. The average score before the implementation was 69.9, and it became 86.8 after the implementation. Besides, the students’ organization aspect also increased significantly. In brief, this study offers a teaching strategy to overcome the problems in writing class by implementing semantic mapping strategy.
