Abstract

Character education is a pivotal element in fostering moral and ethical values among students. This study explores the synergistic impact of parental and community involvement in character education within schools. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis across three schools in diverse socio-economic settings. The findings reveal that parental involvement, such as reinforcing values at home and participating in school activities, significantly enhances students' moral development. Likewise, community engagement through mentorship, resources, and local partnerships provides a supportive environment for instilling positive character traits. However, challenges such as conflicting values, limited time, and communication gaps were identified as barriers to effective collaboration. This research underscores the importance of an integrated approach, aligning efforts between parents, community members, and educators to optimize character education outcomes. The study highlights practical strategies and theoretical contributions, advocating for enhanced communication and joint initiatives to nurture students' character development.

Abstract

This research aims to develop: (1) a feasible local wisdom-based Pancasila education learning module to improve the critical thinking skills and patriotics character of fifth-grade students, (2) a practical local wisdom-based Pancasila education learning module for the same purpose, and (3) an effective local wisdom-based Pancasila education learning module to enhance students’ critical thinking and patriotics character. This research and development study was conducted at SDN 2 Tambakan, SDN 3 Joton, SDN 1 Kraguman, SDN Prawatan, and SDN 1 Granting in Jogonalan District, Klaten Regency, Central Java Provience. The development procedure was adapting from Borg and Gall (2003) model, which consist of ten steps: (1) preliminary study, (2) planning, (3) development of initial product, (4) initial field testing, (5) product revision, (6) main field testing, (7) product revision, (8) operational field testing, (9) final product, and (10) dissemination. The research subjects were fifth-grade students and teachers. Data were collected through interviews, observations, product validation, and feasibility questionnaire validation. Data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The effectiveness of module was examined through n-gain scores and the Mann Whitney U test at a 5% significance level. The findings show that (1) the module meets the criteria of feasibility based on expert validation in contect and media, (2) the module is practical according to teacher and student assessment, and (3) the module is effective in enhacing students’ critical thinking and patriotic character. The experimental class outperformed the control class in both ciritical thinking and patriotic character based on the N-gain scores. The t-test and Mann Whitney U test results yielded a signifivance value of <1%, indicating a significant effect of the module on improving students’ ciritical thinking and patriotic character.

Abstract

Objective: Teaching materials are a vital part of teaching, especially in higher education. Although teaching materials have been used in learning, the reality is that the availability of teaching materials that support the learning process using a case study approach in the Doctoral Program in Primary Education is still very limited, especially in the course Theory and Application of Civic Education in Primary Schools, which requires a case study approach as a stimulus for learning. This study also addresses the challenge of doctoral students' critical thinking skills through learning using the developed teaching materials. Method: This study uses a research and development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation) model, which specifically focuses on the development and validation of the feasibility of case study-based teaching materials. Results: The developed case study-based teaching materials showed very feasible results from various expert judgments. Validation by language experts resulted in an average score of 80%, while material experts gave a score of 90%, and media experts gave a feasibility score of 93%. Novelty: The case study-based teaching materials developed have a complete range of features tailored to field requirements, such as the availability of case study assignments for students that are integrated through barcode scanning to save time in the learning process. This accessibility makes it easier for both lecturers and students to access the assignments given and complete them on time despite the busy schedules of doctoral program lecturers and students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the need for the integration of the traditional game-based Team Games Tournament (TGT) model in elementary school learning. The method used is qualitative descriptive research with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observations, and focused group discussions (FGD) in elementary schools. The results show that both teachers and students express a high need for a more interactive and collaboration-based learning model, where TGT can increase student engagement. Traditional games, which are rich in local cultural values, have been shown to enrich the learning experience and support the development of students' social skills. The main challenge found was the lack of teachers' understanding of how to integrate traditional games in TGT. The implications of these findings are the need to develop learning models that combine TGT and traditional games, as well as training for teachers to optimize their implementation in primary school learning, in order to create more comprehensive and meaningful learning.   Keywords: learning innovation; Team Games Tournament; Traditional Games; Cooperative Learning
