Abstract

The  competency-based  curriculum  represents  an  educational  framework  that  aims  to  foster  students  understanding,  abilities,  and  values  in  a  holistic  manner.  Creating  such  a  curriculum  relies  heavily  on  scientific  principles  that  provide  the  foundation  for  establishing  learning  goals,  subject  matter,  instructional  strategies,  and  evaluation  techniques.  This  investigation  seeks  to  examine  how  scientific  principles  contribute  to  designing  a  competency-based  curriculum  for  primary  education.  The  study  uses  a  library  research  approach  by  examining  and  interpreting  related  materials  such  as  books,  scholarly  articles,  curriculum  frameworks,  and  educational  regulations.  The  results  demonstrate  that  scientific  principles  are  vital  in  maintaining  curriculum  content  that  aligns  with  developments  in  science,  technology,  and  societal  demands.  They  also  aid  in  cultivating  analytical  thinking,  problem-solving  capabilities,  and  continuous  that  aligns  with  developments  in  science,  technology,  and  societal  demands.  learning  among  learners.  Nevertheless,  incorporating  scientific  principles  into  curriculum  design  presents  various  obstacles,  such  as  the  disconnect  between  theoretical  ideas  and  actual  teaching  methods,  insufficient  teacher  expertise,  and  the  swift  rate  of  scientific  and  technological  advancements.  Consequently,  ongoing  curriculum  assessment  and  refinement  are  required  to  preserve  its  appropriateness  and  success  in  accomplishing  educational  objectives.  The  study  determines  that  reinforcing  scientific  principles  is  crucial  for  improving  the  quality  of  competency-based  curriculum  execution  in  primary  education.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media that can assist students in understanding the material on the solar system, specifically the characteristics of the planets within it. This learning media is developed in the form of cards that can be scanned using a smartphone device, with each card displaying a three-dimensional (3D) planet object along with an audio explanation. The research method was Design and Development (D&D) with the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The results of the study show that the development of the PlanetARia media was validated by system and content experts, with average percentages of 96% and 98%, respectively. The implementation of the PlanetARia media showed positive responses from students regarding visualisation, content, and ease of use. As many as 87% of the students gave very good responses to the media’s visualisation, 73% rated the content aspect as very good, and 83% of the students stated that PlanetARia was easy to use. These results indicate that PlanetARia is visually appealing, content-relevant, and provides ease for students in understanding solar system material.

Abstract

This study aims to systematically synthesize empirical evidence on the effectiveness of Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL) in elementary education, focusing on both academic achievement and affective learning outcomes. A systematic literature review was conducted following the PRISMA protocol to ensure methodological rigor and transparency. Peer-reviewed empirical articles published between 2021 and 2025 were retrieved from the Scopus database using pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The selection process involved identification, screening, eligibility assessment, and final inclusion stages, resulting in 20 eligible studies. Data were analyzed using thematic synthesis to identify recurring pedagogical patterns and trends in outcomes across studies. The validity of the review process was ensured through clearly defined selection criteria, consistent screening procedures, and cross-checking of extracted data. The findings reveal that effective DGBL implementation is strongly associated with pedagogical alignment, particularly the integration of explicit learning objectives into game mechanics, immediate and adaptive feedback, student-centered learning approaches, progressive scaffolding, and functional gamification elements. These features consistently contributed to improvements in students’ academic achievement, conceptual understanding, and learning retention. In the affective domain, learning motivation and student engagement emerged as the most prominently enhanced outcomes, followed by positive shifts in learning attitudes and self-efficacy. The most stable and consistent effects were observed in language-related subjects, upper elementary grades (Grades 4–6), and formal classroom settings. Overall, the findings indicate that DGBL's effectiveness depends more on instructional and pedagogical design than on technological complexity, highlighting the importance of pedagogically grounded game-based learning in elementary education.
