Abstract

Indonesians must have high literacy to know about the disasters around them. There needs to be a learning model to improve disaster literacy. One of the alternatives is the Problem-based learning model with Root Cause Analysis. This research is a quantitative type of pseudo experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design where the pretest-posttest results of the experimental class and control class are compared to determine the effectiveness of the treatment in the experimental class. There are no particular specifications regarding the characteristics of the class used in the study. Data analysis used a sample t-test supported by prerequisite tests such as homogeneity and normality tests. The PBLRCA model has a significant effect on students' disaster literacy skills. The results showed increased literacy skills at a t value of 5,787. Steps such as independent review, investigating the root of the problem, and implementing action plans that can make PBLRCA students read, explore and analyze situations in depth more than Lecturing Method. These activities make students' disaster literacy improve.

Abstract

Abstract                                                             The quality of groundwater is naturally determined by water-bearing rock characteristics. However, the progression of civilian activities also negatively affects the groundwater quality. Therefore, this study aims to assess groundwater's physical, chemical, and biological characteristics in Indonesia's Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) campus area and evaluate its compliance with drinking water quality standards, particularly the Class A standard. A comparative descriptive strategy was utilized in the study by involving groundwater in the campus area of UM. The focus of the research is water quality in unconfined aquifers. Through purposive sampling, 12 wells were selected to ensure appropriate spatial dispersion. Water samples were collected in sample bottles and tested for physical, biological, and chemical properties. The Perum Jasa Tirta I Malang carried out these water quality tests. Water quality data were analyzed qualitatively, descriptively, and comparatively. This study concludes that (1) the groundwater on the UM campus generally meets the physical criteria for drinking water quality standards; (2) the chemical quality of the groundwater on the UM campus still satisfies the drinking water quality standards; and (3) biologically, the free groundwater on the UM campus fails to meet drinking water quality standards. The novelty of this research is that the biggest threat to the quality of free groundwater in the campus area is bacterial contamination from sanitation activities. Accordingly, it is recommended that groundwater is boiled before being utilized for drinking water purposes to neutralize the E. coli bacteria present in all well water samples. Keywords: Water Quality of Unconfined Aquifer; The Drinking Water; Quality Standard

Abstract

Environmental awareness is essential for fostering a culture of conservation and sustainability. Schools, as foundational institutions, play a critical role in promoting environmental education. The Adiwiyata program is one such initiative aimed at integrating environmental values into school activities and curricula. This study analyzes the levels of awareness, adaptation, and involvement of students in environmental conservation at national Adiwiyata schools in Gresik Regency. A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative data collection. Quantitative data were gathered through questionnaires and analyzed for validity and reliability. Qualitative insights were obtained through interviews and thematic analysis to enrich the findings. The study revealed that 81.52% of students demonstrated environmental awareness, 81.70% showed adaptation to conservation practices, and 80.41% actively participated in preserving the environment. Students recognized the importance of a clean and sustainable environment in creating a conducive learning atmosphere. Schools supported these efforts by embedding environmental activities into daily routines, fostering active student involvement. The findings underscore the effectiveness of the Adiwiyata program in cultivating environmental values among students. By encouraging active participation and consistent adaptation to conservation practices, schools contribute to long-term environmental sustainability. However, continued efforts, such as routine environmental campaigns, are necessary to maintain and enhance student engagement. The Adiwiyata program effectively fosters environmental awareness, adaptation, and involvement among students. Regular environmental initiatives are recommended to sustain and deepen student participation in conservation efforts.

Abstract

Controlling land degradation in conservation areas requires improvement, especially given the spatial impacts of human-environment interactions within the Meru Betiri National Park Biosphere Reserve, Indonesia. Drawing upon geosystem theory, this study investigated land change issues stemming from human-environment interactions within Meru Betiri National Park's conservation area. This study adopted a mixed-methods design that incorporated field observations, surveys, and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were obtained from observations of the degradation landscape and a survey of forest farmers, while qualitative data were collected through interviews with key observer participants. Data analysis was triangulated through a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) involving forest farmers and policymakers. The findings indicate that forest farmer conservation practices influence knowledge transformation, environmental education, and funding mechanisms. These elements are integral to a sustainable "translation approach" to restore the conservation area's ecological landscape. The impact of ecosystem restoration leads to significant spatial and contextual changes within the biosphere reserve's geosystem landscape. This study highlights the implications of the interplay among farmer thinking patterns, funding, and policies for enhancing welfare through a sustainable critical land conservation model. Applying this "translation approach" offers valuable spatial and temporal conservation insights in protected areas.
